With all these sackings it might be a good time to also ditch the song. After all, our on field performance issues may be related to the players simply wanting to avoid this negative stimuli.
Does anyone know how the song works? Do we need to keep it for x amount of years as per a contract?

Even the fuddy duddys at the club can surely recognise how awful it is. Who approved it in the first place - Nissy?

A reminder of the secret meanings of each line. Its even worse than I remember 🤣

Meaning of verse 1 lyrics
Born is pride, from isolation. Refers to Western Australian pride. West Australians are proud of our remoteness and isolation. That means to achieve, to succeed, you have to do it; you have to make it happen.

Our fortress built, we cross the nation. It has always been there. It’s one of the foundations of our success. Was Subi, now Optus Stadium. Our expeditions east to play and win reinforce the spirit of the adventure. It recognises the unique spirit of the original West Coast Eagles ‘adventurers’ who were the first to travel east to challenge Australian football orthodoxy and succeeded. That same spirit we have today and always.

Our colours share, the west coast sky. One of the things that differentiates WA from the east coast is the spectacular and unique colours we have in the west. The blue of the western sky and the golden rays as the sun sets on the western horizon. That is where our club colours come from.

Our will to win won’t die….this is about our fighting spirit…our courage and resilience… put simply, our will to win.

Meaning of verse 2 lyrics
We stick together, through thick and thin.” Belonging, togetherness, courage, resilience and success through perseverance.

We grow as champions from within. self-belief, inner strength and confidence but through humility. Avoids the cliché of "we are champions" and follows the deeper meaning of what a ‘champion’ means to the club.

Our fans know, it's more than winning. suggests we have a higher purpose and references compassion. It is not arrogant, self-indulgent or hedonistic.

It’s West Coast magic. Magic is and has been the signature of the West Coast Eagles from day one. It also respects the indigenous players that have brought their ‘magic’ to the club through breathtaking and exciting deeds and skill. The magic of Narkle, Lewis, Matera, Jetta, Rioli, Ryan and Kelly.

And it's just beginning. suggests that our history is being written…right now. It's a line which is very much an invitation to new fans, as if to say, you don't have to have lived the entire history of the club or been around in 1992, 1994, 2006 and even 2018 to be a true fan. We are making our history now and there’s more to come…

Hammer Brayshaw talks a little about how the song came to be and who presented it to the players - wouldn't name the actual employee who did that though. The players hate it, it is widely disliked. I can't imagine it will be around for too much longer but they're running from the embarrassment of redoing it.
The best way to avoid that is to use retro round to bring back "wize men from the East" and then just leave it in the tape recorder.
Job done.

This is true, always felt for those poor Victorians who have to tolerate the green sky and purple sun rays.

Absolute cringe.

What annoys me is that the new first verse was player-driven.

Then the club just ran with that and produced an abomination.
And it was a chant, a pump up, and then it was turned into this melodramatic soft rock thing.

Kenny gets all the flack but the song reeks of 'design by committee'. I'm sure the WCE olds had a lot of thoughts.

I maintain that the old song sucks, but you can't just shoehorn a ludicrous 40 year old melody and lyrics into something new. Keep the words maybe. Turn the 'we're the Eagles...' bit into a chant or something and change the rest.

Personally I'd love us to copy European football songs. Screw the show tunes and the corny rock and give us something completely different. Don't even need to mention the Eagles.

(Chorus) Eagles soar high, no cap, we flex,
West Coast vibe, gold and blue specs.
Lit on the field, drippin' in pride,
Champions reppin', our spirit won't hide.

(Bridge) From the coast, we grind and rise,
Eagle fam strong, no compromise.
No cap, we own this game,
West Coast glory, forever the aim.

Not enough Rizz.
Rizz kings of the big game?

Dammit my edit didn't work.
Cant have this in the song, doesn't work for the AFLW.
Good thing the w went on the end.
Having the WWAFL or the WAWFL if it went to the state leagues.

CRIKEY!, that takes me back...

1980, Hawkwind concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, London. The band were in fire with their Levitation Tour, great music, great stage presence, overwhelming sense of total awesomeness - and the row immediately behind us were all Hells Angels, tripping out like demented space monkeys.

My bonged-out mate and I were trying to put 3/4 regular papers together, unsuccessfully, when this huge hairy arm reached out from the darkness behind - and offered a pack of RIZLA+ Kings.

I've never been more grateful that it didn't then drag me back over the seat and down into the pits of Hell!

Happy times, simpler times...

Bring back that phat, thumping bass riff from the 80s.

The club is a product of the decadent 80s, and should celebrate that fact.
Lemmy to redo the bass parts in the song?

Edit - just realised he wasn’t in the band at that stage.

Just need someone with some musical ability/knowhow to try a rough version of the Funiculì version talked about a year or two ago on here.

Reckon it would be a winner.

1) They need to dump that stupid inflatable Eagle head that they run out of and 2) They need to go back to the 2018 version of the song.

I really hate the new song, the team has already done half a lap around the oval by the time the damn digeridoo stops playing. The big Eagle head and the song has no aura at all, it's no wonder we've only won five games in two years.
