Bernie Sanders won Vermont for a fourth six-year term at least

How different might things have been if Sanders got the nod over 'Crooked Hillary' back in 2016?
I'll admit despite liking Sanders I was always worried about his ability to get votes from the centre but I see now that it's not the answer. Sanders would at a very minimum have invigorated the youth vote massively with actual progressive policies. Just so hard for that type of politician to get through the primaries against centre types

America where Capitalism is the holy grail and anything that helps the poor or less fortunate is labeled Communism.
They are in for a shitload of more pain now, apart from the Oligarchs around Trump.

They voted for him.

Now they Reap the Whirlwind.

She was a poor candidate but it's irrelevant in that Trump is not a fit choice. No one should be voting for someone that unfit and people should be held accountable for making such a poor choice. But again education is not teaching people to discern that so they just vote on emotions.
agree but this was lesser of 2 evils

I'm leaning more and more towards that being a failure of message. The answer to 'If you don't know vote NO!' is clear and concise explanation and education to the voting public in the long lead-up.

I don't feel that happened as well as it should have.
Harris was an unknown quantity whereas Trump had served four years and was known.

Did anyone seriously think that bringing the likes of Dick bloody Cheney into the tent and boasting about making America the greatest military force in the world was going to work?

There are people who think they cannot afford to put gas in their cars and many of them would have lost loved ones to a couple of pointless and seemingly endless wars and now they are seeing more money pissed away on such fruitless bullshit.

"hey we have Dick on board - vote for us, we are a little bit Obama and a little bit Bush. The best of both worlds!"

Bugger off.

Yes, there actually are people in this very thread who think so and blamed progressive voters for being turned off by that.

It helped. Just not enough.

Those who despise cheney were voting democrat anyway.
Really, do you reckon?

It would be as if, say, Moira Deeming took over as leader of the Libs in Vic and Labor got Jeff Kennett to endorse them ahead of her.

Trump was on the train of removing the establishment from power. So Harris gets an endorsement from Dick Cheney - the ultimate establishment figure - and thinks that would work?

I kinda get the "end wokeism" and all the far-right stuff. Not for me but hey, the US is so backward, why not vote for radical change? That is why I wasn't surprised by Argentina doing the same. Get rid of the Swamp and all that

But for Trump......the guy is an idiot who only employs people who share his name or don't say anything critical. He acts like a 5-year-old

And then you STILL vote for a guy like Ted Cruz.....geech. The guy is the swamp

There are some seriously ingrained party voters. Regardless of politics, I just can't understand voting for people like that.

The one positive I have of this is Mitch Mcconnell's failure is complete. Never has there been such a gutless pollie who has ruined the US as much as that one guy has done. He killed his own party in the end.

Change may be good for the US. Break the cycle. going to be a long 4 years

Wish I was wrong 😔

Nah made no difference

People don't vote for a photo

All it did is change the rhetoric for a few days
I always thought it was going to galvanise Republican voters. They seemed to gain focus after that point. But maybe you're right and Trump was always going to win anyway.

I didn't mind Kamala but if I was a voter in that nation I don't know how much she would have inspired me.

Stay away from twitter / X folks. The super MAGAS are out in force with absolutely shocking posts. Mocking and gloating every Democrat associated person. From telling them to go kill themselves, saying they should be executed, swearing in an extremely aggressive manner, calling black people the N word. One even commented on a young male Democrat (19ish?), telling him that he hope he gets r*ped you sissy f*gg*t. Is this what Musk meant by free speech? Stay classless folks. This is why I have always detested cooker level far right types. They are just as bad in Aus hogging up every news page on social media.

Cue the idiot laugh reacting my post. I mean if you find that kind of stuff funny, then...

The dem establishment even after today would probably still prefer Trump over Bernie.

A real shame he is the age he is

The 2016-2020 Primary season will be looked back on as the watershed moment for US politics in the 21st Century.

The country was aching for an anti-establishment populist. Both parties had one - Trump and Sanders. One party ultimately embraced theirs, the other one buried theirs.

Throw in huge demographic shifts and it has re-shaped the political landscape for decades.
