That is a lie. They did not endorse him.

Please do not blame Arabs for Trump winning across the nation.

Dems are going to have 10 million less votes nationwide.

1. There are 2m Arab Americans TOTAL.

2. The biggest numbers are in safe Blue states CA, NY.

3. Non-Christians voting strongly for her.

4. It was white people not voting for Harris that did it.
Who is blaming Arab American for Trump winning? He won the votes because Arab American, Hispanic America, Asian American, African American and Muslim American voted for him, why did he thanks them???

They are definitely trying to ban abortion. The current checks and balances in place prevent them from just outright banning it. Doesn’t mean it’s not something they aren’t working towards.

No I was very deliberate in my wording. We’ve already seen Reagan let HIV go through the gay community. There are also pushes around preventing knowledge of safe sex simply deeming it a sin. They will do everything in their power to punish those they deem “undesirable”.

The republican plan is to start small and work its way towards the end goal. They’ve learnt to do it little bit by little bit. Slowly boil the country and by the time the country wakes up to it a heap of damage will be done. Damage has already been done and they’ve gone back for Trump again.
Good news for you is that everything you said above is wrong and is pure fearmongering from those who you get your information from. You can rejoice, no Republican is banning abortion at a Federal level. No LGBT are being denied access to healthcare (unless you're talking specifically about gender transition programs for children - which is a different issue). Rejoice, the things you are concerned about will not happen. Thank Donald Trump for that.

For those who think it is a race thing, I would ask:

How did Kamala go in the Democratic primary for the 2020 race? Were all the Dems racist then? Any chance that she just isn't that good?

Anyway - I hope Elon helps to cut the bureaucracy and cuts hard. We could do with a lot of that here.

Apart from that, I don't care much at all.

heck ma there's some righteous bullshit in here today.

Very much a progressive in everything (if anyone cares about my BF SRP posting history) but let's be politically realistic here - a thread about Trump fellating a microphone getting 20k upvotes on Reddit is not reflective of the public discourse. Did anyone really care so much about that as to change their vote on election day?

This is what frustrates me - 'talking down' to the average voter does not work. You make a case to them as to why a progressive cause is worth their vote, you don't tell them to vote for the progressive cause because they are uneducated simpletons. It's a big reason why the Voice failed.

Feel free to throw in the dislikes.

Donnie you only have another 5 hours to end the Ukraine war! what's happening brother don't let us down now?!
Why don't you come back into this thread when you understand a LITTLE bit more about the US government system and when Presidents take power. (Hint: January 6 is a notorious day for a reason).

Are the republicans actually going to control the house? From my count they need 216 for majority but will only end up on 218?

If it does happen ( i think it will ), they will have the White House, House, Senate, and the balance of the Supreme Court. I'm led to believe 2 judges will retire from the Supreme Court in the next 4 years, and trump may well have that stacked for a long time.

Interesting times ahead.

So another one is run and done, and Trump - love him or loathe him - wins this one quite convincingly.

And I do hope that the leftist echo-chambers (like BigFooty and Reddit, for example) realise that real life is quite different. You cannot force your views on others - you have to convince those on the fence that they are worth holding. The refusal to accept (or worse, demonise) quite reasonable alternative viewpoints is staggering at times.

For the record, although I voted Yes on the Voice and would never vote Republican as an ardent leftist, I predicted No and Trump (Mk II) respectively. People just want jobs, and to afford food on the table and fuel in their car, and hopefully a politician that understands them. Trump offered that, not Harris. In the end, people by and large actually don't care that much about trans rights or Trump gaffes or mass deportations despite what some on here and Reddit might think.

Progressive politics does not work unless people want the progress.

Peace out.

Yeah, it's almost like sometimes you need to talk to people to find out why they have the opinions they have.

Did he though?

but he said he'd end the war within 24 hours of being elected?! surely he was telling the truth??
I don't think you flexing the lack of comprehension skills you have in context is the win that you think it is darren.

Spot on. I think the bolded is a massive, major part of 2016 and 2024.

There are many in this world sick of having to soft shoe shuffle through life because someone may take offence at a word they utter or an action they take which would have been perfectly acceptable 10-20 years back. For instance, the players from GWS suspended for wearing twin tower costumes or the umpire suspended and made to apologise for turning up at a fancy dress function as Bin Laden. Comedy is becoming a risque business because of the increasingly off limits nature of so many aspects of life that are now deemed likely to cause offence. There are so many taboo areas now, along with groups placed on pedestals who are deemed beyond the comment and certainly criticism of ordinary people. Even the closure on bigfooty of all threads in club forums relating to politics or any controversial subject is a sad example of the current obsession with seeking to protect anyone from the slightest potential offence.

I hate many of Trump's policies, and his acceptance of the likes of Putin and Netanyahu, along with his violent threats to fellow politicians and minority groups really worry me, but even some of the groups you'd think would be most offended by him seem to have clamoured aboard his bandwagon in this election.

I liked the way Trump wasn't afraid to justifiably niggle China with 'China plague' references. I will never forgive China for what it did to the world via its willingness to capture, torture and kill wild and domestic creatures on a massive scale, without seeing anything callous or inappropriate in its actions. Thanks to their uncivilized attitude toward sourcing food and medicines, covid was foisted on the world and not many had the balls to call them to account for it - except Trump and our own happy clappy chappy but otherwise entirely forgettable PM Morrison. Conversely, we have had Biden and Albanese react to Israel's excesses against Gaza with weasel warning and words that we know are utterly meaningless because they will never be followed up. There is a lack of courage in both leaders to act in a manner which would bring about meaningful change to a worsening situation. Trump at least says what he thinks and gives the impression that he will act on his words if required to do so.

With the likes of Trump emerging as a major player, the western world is experiencing a backlash to its newly discovered moral naval gazing and force feeding of pc value systems. My one positive takeaway from Trump's success is that it's partly built on offering an alternative to the forcing of rigid contemporary values and beliefs on people who want some space to continue to be the selves they have always been content to be.

In so many other respects Trump is an appalling creature with some weird views and an uncomfortably comfortable relationship with several of the world's most unpalatable leaders. Yet he has become a lightning rod for those seeking to divert the modern world from its goodie two shoes inclusivity and moral hand wringing.

The other thing from which Trump has profited is the absurd spending of billions and billions of dollars to prop up a world rendered indolent by the forced closure of society during the covid lockdown years. Inevitably that wastage created the inflation that led to the high living costs that have created the votes required to return Trump to power.

In a sense the world is getting with Trump what its actions and thought processes have eventually led to - a reaction against excessive and obsessive safety and security concerns and stifling of criticism or commentary on so many areas of life. We may be unable to go to a fancy dress party in fancy dress anymore, but it's fine for the likes of Israel to bomb the bejeesus out of a race of people or supermarkets to dishonestly manipulate prices in their favour while pretending to be acting in the best interests of the consumer. The ordinary person feels hopeless to do anything to change what's happening, then along comes a person who seems to speak for their frustration and thumbs his nose at the world.

I may not like the man or his policies, but I can understand why so many people see him as the way out of the mess they see the world and themselves currently enveloped in.

Heh. I think this is spectacular. I 100% endorse the argument that the reason people disagree with you is because they don’t know what is good for them. I find the most persuasive argument for anything is to tell people they are stupid if they don’t agree. It works on my wife all the time. Any time I find myself losing an argument with her I quickly switch to, “You just think that because you’re a moron!” It wins her over every time!

What policies or plans does trump have which will improve anyone’s lives who aren’t billionaires?

It’s about vibes really. That’s what it comes down to.

The fact that 15m fewer people voted Dem and 3m fewer voted MAGA suggests to me that people wanted something more to vote for.

Trump did his job, Harris and the Dems didn't do theirs.

Democrats haven't offered significant social and economic reform since the 1960s, nearly 60 years ago under LBJ. Despite the promise of transformational politics, Obama largely gave people more of the same.

Neoliberalism has meant that governments have increasingly abandoned people to their fate. The US is one of the most unequal places in the world, democracy or otherwise. Trump understands this. He doesn't have meaningful solutions but he makes the right noises, and that's more than a lot of people have had in America for a very long time.

The angst about trans issues and abortion and immigration are a backlash.

If Dems (and Labor) can't reorient themselves and rediscover their original mission, they will wither and it must be hoped that another force will soon take their place.

Some epic meltdowns this morning.

BigFooty hasn't disappointed.

People need to try and make sense of what's happening in their own way.

Oddly enough, these are probably some of the most meaningful discussions a lot of people have about politics, so it seems like a healthy process rather than a simple 'meltdown'.

Very classy. Though I think she should have declared that the results were a fraud and that the election results were rigged and given Trump a taste of his own medicine.
Nah Trump would've loved it if she did that. Then Fox and Sky News would've attacked her for it even though they were cheering on Trump for doing the same thing last election.

She doesn't need to lower herself to the level of the conspiracy nuts.

truth hurts I guess and people lash out

Donald Trump didn't do anything, the Dems did this to themselves, twice. In 2016 and 2024. They screwed themselves and America. Once, it's a aberration, a mistake, a lesson learned. Twice or more its a trend, a choice, a pattern.

I was fortunate to work in the US twice over the last few years, and visited there before that. Seen blue states, red states, and everything in between. Was far more valuable than relying on the same 2-3 TV networks to give me the information I only wanted to hear already. Had a few preconceptions exploded on either side.

In what regard?
