Wow! What a day of footy. Was lucky enough to see the game at the Trott. Some serious talent and hard nuts went at it today. Bewick and Holmes huge in the Xavs comeback from as much as 28 down in the second half. Doug Hogan 23 what happened at Dairy Bell? I hope it wasn't a case of the complacents...De La doing what we love so much about the VAFA. Backs against the wall and go bang. Great club. Many teams thankful for the Royal Bye this Saturday. A lot of stars to come back.

What a great round!!
Claret and Stout fly home from the clouds to win a rip snorter at Wesley. The Purple machine has been really humming lately and they were clearly the best team for the first 3/4’s. But cometh the hour cometh the man to hold centre court. Mr Holmes..a Court.
The big man did it all. Over 70 hit outs and a match winning grab and goal in the final stanza. The man is a beast.
De La cause the boil over of the year with a stirring home win at the Bell. Looking forward to hearing some comments from Jack or Briza here.
Uni smash the hapless Panthers who look almost certain to be playing B Grade next year.
OM’s turn around a 5 goal deficit and go bang bang bang against the struggling hedge burners.
And the Snowdogs finally show some of their early season form against the stuttering Braahton laddies.
All teams will enjoy a week off. Let’s hope everyone comes back fit, healthy and full strength for the back end of a magnificent year.
Current Hippbet Odds:
Blues $2.90
SKOB $3.10
Xavs $3.30
Wesley $15.00
Melbourne $35.00
St Bernard’s $50.00
Brighton $100.00
Trinity $100.00
DeLa $100.00
Carey $200.00

Hippster that's a brilliant summary of yesterday's action and that market is also spot on....bad loss for the Lions coughing up a 34 point lead 10 mins into the 2nd qtr at home....I went through the records....only once have the Lions conceded a 5 goal lead at home and lost since 2003! Great effort from the Xavs boys...they are talented and galvanised group this season...a genuine flag chance....Good signs for the Lions as well though will Anthony Bruhn returning with 1.4 including 2 posters...he's a genuine star...Ben Darrou also played his best game of the year and completely dominated the 1st three quarters so they continue to build but they are now in a scrap for 4th with OM's, OB's and Bernards....what happened to Trinity after half time?!
I see SKOB were missing the big four in the midfield again in Sullivan, Gleeson, Wood and Brown....same as against OBs....shows how good those four players are really...lets rest up over the bye and look forward to a great 2nd half of the year lads!

How could Brighton on 14 points be the same odds as OT on 6 points? They’re two games apart already.

That’s a bit....odd.

Hedge, I got pulled up for being disrespectful for putting teams at 1000’s/1. So I’m lowering it down a bit.
100/1 means zero chance IMO.
You can have 1000/1 on either the Fundless HedgeBurners or Brighton if you wish. Neither will be winning a flag this year. I haven’t had a nibble on Brighton, Trinity, De La or Carey for the flag, so the odds are a little muck around. I’ve taken a few small bets on Snowdogs and Melbourne, a few on Wesley..but pretty much all bets have been on the Big 3. I can’t see this trend changing. Cheers Hipp.

Any Xav's people on here able to give us an update on how Chris Margin is? Copt a huge knee from a teammate right in the middle of his stomach, courageous effort to fly at the footy like he did!

De La thoroughly deserved their win, stirring stuff from that club, those boys have heart, good on them and it would be poor of me to give any excuses for SKOB.

All in good order is the word coming from a the lions camp, a lot of bruising and potential broken ribs. Onwards and upwards for the claret & stout.

Agree. Didn't make it to the game but spoke to a supporter who did. They wanted the win more and played like it from the sounds of it. Love the way De La go about their footy, hopefully the win that kick starts their season or at the very least gives them the confidence to do enough to stay up.

Very generous assessment there from Doug Hogan 23 . For the sake of balance SKOB had a stack of star players missing through injury, unavailability and VFL commitments. While never at full strength I would say that DLS had probably their best side in for the year, certainly nothing like what they put out between rounds 3 – 7. If we manage to keep our playing stocks at a reasonable level we might trouble a few sides but the reality is that we will be fighting for survival while SKOB are a genuine flag chance.

Also anyone doubting the commitment of Jarrad Waite need to re-think that assessment. Starved of opportunities up forward he turned the game when he went into the middle. Would be very easy for a bloke closer to 40 then 30 to just coast along but he absolutely worked his backside off and tried as hard as anyone to get his team across the line. Dominated the last ¼ and a half.

On another note. Very decent of SKOB to agree to an early start to the reserves and seniors so DLS could accommodate a twilight Supers match to honour 3 club legends playing their 300th club game. Very classy show of respect pre and post-game also. They are a quality club.

Heading into the bye, which teams can we expect to be rejuvenated with talent that may have been missing through injury?

Obvious couple from the Old Xavs are Dan Noonan and Dennis Symeopoulos.
