Vale Shane Warne

Probably the greatest one day matches there has ever been or will ever be.
Those matches and the second season of World Series Cricket in Sydney where they closed the gates are most memorable moments in one day cricket in my lifetime. You are a lucky sod if you went to those ones in England in that time.

Prob not the final v Pakistan but the 2 ODIs against SA, yep.

Jeez they'll never be able to replicate him in the commentary box.

One of a handful of people who could read the game the way it was created to be read.

Even gonna miss him mackin' on to Isa :p :'(

He said he wasn't surprised Warne died young as he "never looked after his body and yo-yo'd his weight" but overall he didn't say anything too controversial.

To be honest those were my thoughts, if any cricketer of his generation was going early it was him. Parties, booze, smokes, food, drugs, Shane lived it up, but certainly tone deaf to say that kind of thing in the media on the day he passed.

How would one know this without being on those websites looking for Warne and Marsh stuff at 9:43am on a Saturday?

Probably pops up while you're searching eBay for other things.

Trying to make money off a legend's passing is not just unethical; it's outright ghoulish.

An early passing didn’t surprise me for Warnie,” Healy said. “He didn’t look after his body that well. He yo-yoed up and down.

“He didn’t put much sunscreen on. I thought it would have become skin issues for him over time, but not at 52. And he would have been full of beans right to the end, I bet.”

He went further, saying he thought he would get cancer at a young age from smoking or always suspected he would get skin cancer because he never worse sunscreen and never really took care of himself.

All the media outlets are now running with it.

He’s a genuinely stupid campaigner.

I'll give him a pass. I feel like shit and didn't know the bloke, Healy was a mate and we all process grief differently.

Healy really comes across as a tone deaf stupid campaigner most of the time, doesn’t he?

When he commentates he sounds as thick as a plank and most of his actions outside of cricket haven’t changed my mind.

Time and a place Ian…
Yeh came across as someone that would tell you they are vegan within a minute of meeting them without prompting.

There has been many extremely fit people die young and many extremely unfit people live to 80.

Just seems like a humourless knob. This generations Ian Chappell.

He has a solid point on the yo yo dieting to be fair but yes you wouldn't think someone would say it on the #1 Breakfast show in Australia the day of his passing. Figures show your 117% more likely to have a heart attack if you yo yo your weight throughout your life.

Ode to Shane Warne........

Oh Shane oh Shane we loved you so
Even more than you loved your mobile phone

With your peroxide hair and bling in your ear
You were a force to be reckoned with - a bowler to fear

The figures, the stats, the wickets that fell
The commentating, coaching and the IPL

The Test team, the Bushrangers, Royals and Hampshire
All of your colleagues are today shedding a tear

A legend, a larrikin...just one of the lads
And out on the pitch a total bad ass

The ball of the century in 1993
Something Mike Gatting couldn't even believe

You smashed so many records and inspired many a kid
You even auctioned off a baggy green for charity to the highest bid

You had a makeover and became a little lean
But Liz Hurley thought you were the best cricketer she'd ever seen

The tributes today are from far and wide
Your influence and impact on the game can't be denied!

I can't take the credit for this I heard it on the radio this morning, but thought worthy of sharing, it sums him up.

Heh, my grandfather drank and smoked heavily and lived until he was almost 90. He also had a penchant for chasing animals with pitchforks, so you can guess what sort of bloke he was.

Not a nice thing to say about one's grandfather, I know, but I can't help but think about the tragic irony that someone like that would live to a ripe old age, while somebody who contributed so much to the world passed well before his time.

Twelve hours later, and I’m still asking the same question. WTF?

Can’t remember who said it (probably on Twitter), but losing a childhood hero and then a contemporary hero in the space of 24 hours is a one-two punch that has hit many people, myself included.

The solace I’m taking though is that, off the back of a two year period which has shaken and divided society (and continues to do so), our common outpouring of grief is a bittersweet balm that seems to be reuniting us. Shane’s final gift to us.

I’m gonna hug the sh*t out of the next Eagles fan I see.

:crown:
This about sums it up. I was catching up with a few mates last night, ready to call it a night and go home and pass out around 11pm. Was still awake, and just as shocked, 5 hours later.

I read the news, looked up to the one other mate who was into cricket, and could tell from his expression he already knew. We practically sat there in stunned silence, while our other mates were none the wiser, until another mate got the news alert and announced it.

Easily one of the most surreal celebrity deaths I can recall, and as awful as it sounds, it threw me off more than the passing of some of my relatives, which I was at least prepared for. Never thought that just a month after this summer's cricket that I'd be devastated we wouldn't be hearing Warne on commentary anymore.

I just can’t believe it - I had a sleep in this morning and only woke up at 940 and saw the news - I just can’t believe it Shane Warne my first hero dead - my parents were telling me how I cried and cried about getting Nike earring when I was 5 because I wanted to be like him.

Growing up watching Warne and McGrath was an honour cricket hasn’t been the same to me since they retired - 2005 ashes was the peak he was just beyond special with the ball but also the bat in that series as well.

I Must admit haven’t really cared for his commentary the last few years and I feel a little sad I felt that way - but I’m so in shock that he passed way I really thought he would be commentating for another 30 years.

I’m 32 and I cried a little earlier - this has really shocked me - life is so fragile.

Jim Maxwell spoke about a couple of the not so pleasant encounters he had with Shane on ABC before. Which I was surprised that he chose to do.

Never wore sunscreen? The zinc cream on the nose and lips were part of his trademark, along with the white floppy hat.

RIP Shane Keith Warne.

Shocked. Speechless. Saddened, was how I felt after I turned on the TV at about 7.45am this morning.

They say tragedies come in threes. Rod Marsh, Dean Woods and Shane Warne all greats, all gone within 48 hours.

:'(

it's good to know I'm still classified as young.

I'm about to turn 49, so seeing guys around me drop, has me thinking about how precious time is.
