What I can't reconcile is we were actually leading the Dogs in the last Q last week after playing out of our skins.

Yesterday reminded me of the first couple of weeks of the season where it looked like the players didn't want to be out there.
They later admitted they had put too much pressure on themselves and everyone went into their shells.
JL talks about it in the presser as the players "internalising" and getting stuck in their own heads.

We know this team can play better footy and JL has, as good as said, this is a mental problem.
So whose fault is that? And why are teams like Port and Collingwood running above the ground and we're sinking in mud?

Is it lack of leadership on the field? Is it coaching? Both?
Think they need to go out and get an experienced premiership player if one is gettable. Lions are noticeably better since Hodge, Melbourne better after Lewis, hell the Eagles won a flag soon after Mitchell came in. Granted those teams didn't win premierships with said players but you'd have to think some of that winning experience and leadership rubbed off.

Just watched the replay of Schultz’s non goal in the first from the mark on the line and F*CK me it looked like a goal live from where I sit right in line with it and couldn’t see anything different from the replay. The fact it wasn’t even reviewed Is bullsh1t. Especially since tabs had his goal from a mark over the line reviewed and reversed early in the year after review.

The horse bolted after that but it’s still F*CKED anyway

These goal umps at our home games have been massive haters all year long.

They'll review the most random bullshit that potentially might go against us but a review for something that might be in our favour? Nada, they won't do jack.

Was sat up in the gods with a perfect view of this. Goal all day every day. That it didn't get reviewed was shocking. Not that it would've made a huge difference but there were at least three 12 point swings instigated by umpires missing something or paying incorrectly (still had to be taken down field and scored, so don't want to labour the point), at relatively key moments. Kinda felt like one of those days. Even Amiss ****ed up a run in on goal ffs, we appeared to have angered the footy gods. Again.

Sorry, that’s a BS throw away line to draw the attention away from the following facts:

1. Our midfield isn’t big enough
2. Our midfield doesn’t work for each other to overcome point 1.
3. We Continue to run the same players through the middle expecting a different result.
4. We have the most dominant big man in the game who can direct the tap at will most weeks.
5. We repeatedly fail to capitalise on point four.

That is coaching, that is instruction, that is on JL and his team of coaches.
Think you've nailed it. Both Serong and Brayshaw are not big bodied and Andrew seems to be playing a more outside game this year. Last year Will Brodie was enormous on the inside and Dave Mundy was winning a lot of clearances because of his ability to read the game and his experience. O'Meara is a B grade mid and Johnson is a promising kid.

I gave up on the goal umpires and review system in the game against Richmond when they disallowed our goal because the Tigers player ran into the post which made the snicko unusable. Everything that is even remotely close to the line they will 95% of the time call for a review but on the weekend he may as well had his Blues jumper on under his coat.

Clearly over the line before he even got his hands to it.

We have one plan. Win clearances and bomb. We had maybe one good f50 entry all day. How many ******* years do we have to suffer with those Kick ins before someone realises they don’t ******* work. Carlton have no ruck of course they’re gonna play to lose the hit out and yet we still can’t figure it out.
it's the bombing that shits me - why oh why when playing against such a tall side?!?

If thats the case, we would of got one in 2006 when We had Peter Bell (won premiership medals in 1996 and 1999 with kangaroos), Des Headland (premiership medal with Brisbane in 2002), Josh Carr (Won one in 2004 with Port).

We didnt have any Players with Premierships from other clubs when we were good in 2012-15. That 2013 grand final side had blokes that played in a grand final. Danyle Pearce (Port in 2007) and Zac Dawson (Saints in 2009 and 2010)

Dockers have 2 premiership players on their list. Luke Jackson (demons in 2021) and Joel Hamling (dogs in 2016).

Well this sucks....

I regularly posted on here around 2016-18, which was the toughest years of the rebuild. I was postive and Up beat that it was gonna slowly turn around. It did.

I remember the posts on here everytime the dockers lost on here in 2017. Yeah we went 0-2 with that 40 point loss to cats in WA and that 89 point loss to Port in Adelaide oval.

Then came the Ross Lyon thread.

People wanted Ross Lyon gone after 2 games into that 2017 season.

I then wrote a massive post on there. A hell of a read when I look back at it. We beat the 2016 premiers the dogs by like 16 points.

We won 6 of the next 7, the derby was the loss in that 7 game stretch. It was 3 wins in a row then a loss then another 3 wins in a row.

Then came the crows game where we lost by 100 points. 143-43. A few freo fans had a melt down after the game. I actually didnt give 2 stuffs about it 6 wins from 10 games is and was way better than 0-10 in 2016.

It would suck if we get bottom 6 in 2023. Not because that top pick 6 goes to the demons. But It would feel like its 2016-18 again.

we are a ong suffering fan base.

You think going through that 2016-21 rebuild, everything is set up and we are in for a run of making finals for 3-5 years in a row. Sadly its not the case.

I keep repeating in our 30 year history, we only made back to back finals once and that was 2012-15.

Surely we want another era of making finals for 2-3 years in a row again?

Carr leaves Fremantles midfield, now in control of Ports and they are premiership fancies.
Ports midfield isn't the biggest, or the most experienced, beginning of the year Hinkley is on thin ice.
How is it impossible for Freo to see how other clubs improve by poaching quality people.
Nice guys come last, and do we just let them walk out the door without a counter offer?

Welcome to the dockers mate. A feeder club for all AFL teams, Even Gold coast.

There is too many softies in leadership positions in the club. It’s gone all lovey Dovey too much. Bob Murphy floating around with his Zen crap. JL wrapping his arms around everyone. Pearce seems more concerned with off field progressive social issues. You can do that kind of stuff when you are in our best 3 players. When you are borderline WAFL level however, it doesn’t wash and guys will be thinking to themselves “this guys a phoney”. How can Pearce give a spray to a player when he’s barely holding his place in the side himself?

Some players need tough love and a whip cracked to get the best out of them. Not everyone but some. The current freo environment is a great place for those kind of guys to just coast. Come in, joke around a bit, go though the motions each week and that’s it.

Serong has to be captain next year. He would DEMAND standards from guys, start giving a few sprays and tell people to wake the **** up and start getting the best out of themselves consistently.

I hate to say it, we have gone back to our 2017-8 season form.....

Our form was extreme on both ends. In that 2016 season, we averaged 73 points in attack and concede 96 points. We only got 4 wins and 18 losses.

in 2017, Stats wise was slightly worse. We averaged 72 points a game and conceded 98 points. 14th with 8 wins and 14 losses

In 2018, Slightly worse again, we averaged 70 points again and conceded 92 points. Again 14th with 8 wins and 14 losses.

One week we get smashed by 60-100 points away from home. We then back it up with a 20-30 point win at home... I didnt mind getting 4 or 5 wins in the 1st 10-12 games of the season or 1st half the season back in 2017 and 2018.

We then limp away and have a horrible end to the season. In 2017-8, there was tolerable excuses as older players were injured and replaced with kids that struggle to run the game out.

Better than going 0-10 in 2016.

We have a soft coach, soft captain and incompetent manager in Bell.

Garlic seems good though and I hope along with the new Prez does the right thing and gets this club back on track.

No Disrespect to Alex Pearce. He is a solid best 22 player when fully fit. But In my opinion not who I want as captain on freos current list.

I have no Issues having a First Nations or Indigenous Bloke as captain.

Mind you I am slightly shocked We never had a First Nations Capatain before Alex Pearce.

Looking back, Dale Kickett should of been Captain for a year or 2 anytime between 1997-2001. Considering Peter Mann (1997-8), Chris Bond (1999) and Shaun McManus and Adrian Fletcher (co captains in 2000-01).

I dont know if you could of made Des Headland a captain when he was a docker from 2003-2010.

Serong being captain next season wont be the worst thing in the world. I rather Brayshaw to be honest.

Where the **** is the Pearce of 2018-early 2019???

Where's the Pearce that made Josh Kennedy his bitch in the first Optus derby?

Where's the Pearce that had the potential to be the best one on one defenders in the league?

He's still got it in him, he's shown sparks of it over the season, injuries play a factor of course, but he's still very capable of being an elite defender.

Really? How so?

We traded out 5 players in our best 22 in the 2022 off season

Lol no we didn’t. Plus, how are they going? Missing maybe 1 of them.

  • Lobb is almost being dropped by Dogs. Jackson & Amiss far out performing
  • Tucker is depth. He is not taking north or wouldn’t take us anywhere.
  • Logue we prob could have used, but now injured. He’s not as good as people think.
  • meek wasn’t best 22

Acres the only one who’d be handy to have.
Look a bit deeper mate

I think it is mainly the injuries, it's clear he's not 100 percent and likely will never be 100 percent for the rest of his career.

I give him shit now but he definitely had elite potential at one point in his career, shame we never got to see it for a long period of time.

During a ****en rebuild, we bring in the below players and we wonder why at the end we still only have an average list.

Hogan, Lobb, Aish, Wilson, Clark, Colyer, Matera, Hamling, Kersten

5 top 25 picks (including 2 top 10 picks - Rozee and King), another 5 picks in first 3 rounds (quick guess)

I hate the club for being so incompetent. Then the Jackson trade, we overestimated our list and massively over paid for him.

I don't see us ever winning a flag.
