Do you pick your best players in a footy match at quarter time?

I did last week. :)

I'll wait another month before I even consider having a go.

Geez, get those pants out from under you arm pits.

Best junior players thus far - 10 or so.

Is that still aplying this year, I thought it was only last year because they didnt want to disadvantage the kids who would have been drafted

Yep. A group of kids started the year being elligable, then the AFL changed the rules and ruled them out. Myles Krakouer protested and an appeals procedure was brought in for those guys.

Don't know if it still applies because no one has been disadvantaged by a rule chance (they had fair warning).

Here goes my left nut:
Assumed ladder positions, no priority picks prior to first round and no trades:
1 - Collingwood - Beau Dowler
2 - Carlton - Mitchell Clark
3 - Hawthorn - Marcus Drum
4 - Essendon - Leroy Jetta or Grae Grant (I think one is eligible)
5 - Western Bulldogs - Scott Gumbleton
6 - Richmond - Shane Neaves
7 - Kangaroos - Shannon Hurn
8 - Adelaide - Ryan Jackson
9 - Brisbane - Austin Lucy
10 - Sydney - Daniel Dzufer

barrel, Old Son.

At this point, Dowler & Clarke would seem the likely top 2 options, but were this scenario to occur tomorrow, I think it highly unlikely that Hawthorn would choose Marcus Drum ahead of Shannon Hurn or Xavier Ellis.

I'd only expect Hawthorn to take another tall this time around if they wind-up with another priority pick.

Any chance you could give us a brief rundown on those players?

According to the AFL Website Scott Gumbleton and Leroy Jetta are too young for this years draft.

When I talk up Dowler I get shot down by the Hawthorn brigade. :)

Don't fret, pet, Its all about you NOT Dowler...

You get shot to the scheissenhausen by Hawk fans on here regardless of who or what you talk about.

That happens when you're a trolling dill with a reservoir of football knowledge that's shallower than your average desert rainwater puddle.

not sure whether collingwood would take dowler as number one because from what i've heard he's a gun CHF yet we need an explosive midfielder so i'm sure that we would take the best midfielder rather than the best player if that is dowler. not sure who the best midfeilder is though. any thoughts?

It'd still be a brave move to overlook a quality kpp type.

That being said, Messers Hurn, Ellis & Jackson all seem to have their admirers.

I'm told Hurn is already impressing at senior level in the SANFL, but some of our Adelaide correspondents may be better positioned to comment on this.

Who knows who else will pop-up come draft time, given how far away it is.

You'd imagine Hawthorn would have to go for a pacy midfielder. With Croad, Jacobs, Brennan, Roughead, Franklin, Thurgood and Hay they look OK down back. Throw in Murphy, Kirkby and Little and I would have thought Drum wasn't on the cards.

Richmond are unlikely to take Neaves with Pattison in the squad, very similar players. Richmond will have to go for a tall and Wallace has always favoured the lighter athletic types. They'd probably love Dowler but won't get him.

Ryan Jackson won't go from undrafted to top-10. His form doesn't warrant it. He is shaping up as a Caracella type HFF and so the 'price' won't be too high, 30-40s I would have thought.

I haven't seen too many super-quick winger/flankers in Victoria this year which will probably have Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon getting a bit nervous. You'd guess they'd all have pace on top of their shopping lists. I imagine they are spending most of their time in WA and SA.
