The flight time is just over an hour, which is basically the same from Sydney and Adelaide to Melbourne.

So glad you agree with me that Sydney and SA teams complaining about travel disadvantage is laughable.

A nothing flight, just over 1 hour, no change to timezone, and then games at grounds they are very familiar with, playing at Marvel as much as Collingwood do.

No wonder they have a 70% win rate at Marvel.

No one is arguing you can’t be successful because you travel every second week.

Unlike Hawthorn, Sydney do not have blocks of games where they don’t have to travel. Hawthorn has multiple blocks of 3 games where they don’t travel. So effectively blocks of roughly a month with no travel.

I’m surprised it took 353 pages for a vic person to raise this, well done. It is one factor. But to be considered against the totality of travel and wear and tear.

Eg traveling every second week May have a greater wear and tear on performances than a team that only travels 5 times. And every home game will be coming off the back of a travel week.

There are a range of factors that need to be considered together. At a high level I don’t think anyone can seriously claim that traveling every second week isn’t a disadvantage compared to a team that travels 5 times in 6 months.

Sydney and GC have come out in support of travel concessions for WA teams, at a time when matching concessions are being debated, which the Northern clubs want to remain favourable.

Northern clubs will get the much better deal out of the vicbias nonsense. WA and SA will continue to get suckered into supporting something that disadvantages them.

H&A ladder clearly shows that teams who are able to benefit from more games with a genuine home ground advantage fare better during H&A.

Travel is pushed as supposedly the counter to that, but results dont stack up.

Probably because a 1 hr flight to then play at a ground in the same time zone that you play 3 or 4 games a year at isnt actually a significant disadvantage.

They also dont realise that the AFL Fixture is currently designed to reduce travel for WA and SA teams. Go to a completely random fixture, and it will be those teams who are worse off.

Yes anyone can win, but the non-Victorian sides are still disadvantaged. Sydney won in 2012, but I am willing to bet if the game was at the SCG it would have been a more comfortable win.

Hawks typically travel to Tassie 2 days before the game and come back at night a few hours after the game. So it's 3 days away.

Also just checked, even with selling home games to Tasmania the Hawks still played 13 games in Victoria during the 2015 H&A season, so even with the Tasmanian games they played more games in their home city than the non-Victorian clubs do.

In 2015 the Hawks travelled interstate the same number of times as the Eagles and one more than Freo, beat both in finals and beat both at Subi.
