Since we have the bye (Richmond) this weekend i thought i'd start a thread to see how supporters rate our list and what they would do if they had the power to make changes. This is nothing new but i'm pretty interested to find out what people think.

lets fast forward to october and pretend the season ended as the ladder is now (we've finished 3rd). Lets say carlton gets the 1 more win to prevent it getting the number 1 draft pick and that richmond and melbourne qualify for priority picks after the first round in the draft.

the board give you clear instructions:

1. you must delist 3 players.
2. you must make 3 trade offers to rival clubs.
3. you must hire a new assistant coach.
4. you must name 1 captain and 1 vice captain.

so what would you do?

draft order would be as follows:

1.richmond
2.melbourne
3.carlton
4.brisbane
5.st kilda
6.fremantle
7.sydney
8.port adelaide
9.essendon
10.w bulldogs
11.adelaide
12.kangaroos
13.collingwood
14.HAWTHORN
15.west coast
16.geelong
17.richmond
18.melbourne
19.richmond
20.melbourne

etc.

14.HAWTHORN
32. HAWTHORN

1. Delisted: J Thurgood, J Smith (force retire), the third one is really hard, but i'd have to unfortunately say M Little

2.
a) Colin Sylvia for Pick 14
b) Aaron Davey for Pick 14, Pick 32 and Simon Taylor (i'll get shot down for this)
c) Matt Rosa for Pick 14, Luke McEntee and Jarryd Morton

Admittedly, most of the above trades are pipe dreams, but I tried to keep it as realistic as I could.

3. Assistant Coach - A forward who has recently retired. Someone like a Alistair Lynch.

4. Captain Richie Vandenberg, Vice-Captains Sammy M and Luke H.

1. Thurgood, j.smith and dixon. losing a fair bit of experience there but we cant expect them mto be in our best 22 in 2010 or so.

2.a) a.lovett and pick 27 for beau dowler
b) sampi and pick 15 for beau dowler
c) judd for pick 14 , 32 and you guessed it beau dowler
i just dont see a spot for dowler in the side with williams, boyle, franklin, thorpe, roughead and a resting mid like hodge, crawford, mcglynn etc.

3. neale daniher, some more experience in a young coaching outfit

4. Captain-Hodge Vice Captain-Mitchell

Sorry can't think that far ahead. BUT Richmond do not qualify for a priority pick.. (they won 11 last year) and its less than 5 over two years. Cheers anyway and good luck with predictions

Great thread.

1. Delist three players? I would have thought we would only have to delist 2 players since we 1 vacant postion on the list. Anyways here are the candidates I would consider to delist Thurgood, Little, Dawson, Dixon, Smith, Richie and Clarke.

The question I would ask is who would I rather keep at the moment. I will keep players simply if I would think they can add value on-field 2008.
Dawson: Provides depth in the backline.
J Smith: A great year so far. His versality is a key attribute.
Clarke: With the amount of running the game demands.
Little: A waste of a draft pick if we delist him.

Josh Thurgood: Just no good.
Ben Dixon: A few ordinary games and injuries.
Richie Vandenberg: I would probably get sacked for this one.

2. a)Trade Mark Williams to the WCE -> Judd. Trade won't happen and I want Williams to stay as a Hawk. Simply to put pressure on Judd and their salary cap.
b) Little + 1st round draft pick for Jetta or Hislop.
c) Entertain trades to get the Kangaroos, Cartlon or Fremantle 1st round draft pick only.

3) Nathan Buckley or Neale D.
4) Captain: Luke Hodge vice-captain: Sam Mitchell.

Delist - Thurgood, Little, Dixon

Trade - Jacobs and 3rd round pick for Brent Reilly
- 3rd round pick for Rhan Hooper
- 1st/2nd/3rd round picks and Williams for Judd.

Assistant - Dont know.

Captain - Mitchell
VC - Hodge (just edged out because of being more injury prone)

delist: D.Jacobs(trade bait), B.Dixon, J. Thurgood

Trades: 2nd round pick+little or dowler or jacobs for sherman

1st rounder + moss for davey

1st rounder + taylor & dowler or little for dal santo

Assistant:Buckley

Captain:Hodge & Mitchell joint

v.c: lewis & roughead

1. Thurgood,Little, and J.Smith(past it).

2.a) pick 14 and Simon Taylor for Al. Davey
b) Mark Williams, pick 14, and Beau Dowler for Judd and Sampi
c) Simon Taylor and pick 32 for Eddie Betts

3. Assistant - Michael Voss to serve apprenticeship at the Hawks

4. Captain-Hodge Vice Captains-Mitchell, Vandenberg

Delist: Little, Thurgood, Smith

Trades:
Pick 14, 30 + Moss and/or Dowler for Glass + Sampi
Pick 14, 30 + Dowler + Murphy for Rutten + Reilly
Pick 14 + 30 for Prismall + 16

I don't value draft picks this year! It's a weak draft after pick 6.

Assistant coach: Michael Voss

Captain: Luke Hodge
Vice: Sam Mitchell

Delist: Thurgood, Little, one of Dixon/Smith

Trade: pick 14 for sylvia
2nd round & taylor for rosa
2nd & 3rd picks & morton for Aaron Davey
(if possible big $$$$ to melbourne storm for G. Inglis)

Assistant Coach: Danny Frawley full time

Captain: Mitchell
V. Captain: Hodge

1.Ben Dixon forced retirement.
Danny Jacobs and Tim Clarke for a hopefully second round draft pick.
Josh Thurgood(I like his endevour but do not think he will ever be able to put on the weight needed and his kicking is poor.)
2.No trading for players i want to keep this list together.
3.Chris Scott when he retires at the end of the season.
4.Captain Luke Hodge(Has captain inprinted on his forehead)
Vice Captain Sammy Mitchell.

I would delist Josh Thurgood, Ben Dixon & Zac Dawson (must keep Matty Little)

My 3 trade offers would be

1. Mark Williams to Fremantle for Brett Peake & 3rd Round Draft Pick

2. Tim Boyle and Draft Pick to Western Bulldogs for Shaun Higgins
3. Rick Ladson to Carlton for Bret Thornton

Tough decision but if Thorp comes up then Forward line would be top heavy. Send Willo home and hope his knee holds to obtain some pace though the midfield (Brett Peake).

Trade Boyle whilst value is at a premium to a club that needs a lead-up forward instead of Brad Johnson. Obtain Higgins to become an Aker like crumbing forward and midfielder.

Like Boyle, trade Ladson whilst currency is strong and go at Thornton again as Carlton may rue not letting him go last year. They pickup a good mid to replace Kouta and ease the pressure on Nick Stevens, Gibbs & Murphy.

Assistant Coach: John Blakey, to replace either Viney or Hardwick who may be elevated or take on new positions.

Captain: Luke Hodge (may just help the odd ill-disciplined act)
Vice Captain: Sam Mitchell

Delist: Thurgood, Little & Smith

Trade Offers:
1. B Dowler + 2nd Round Pick for M Bate
2. 1st & 3rd Round Picks for Prismall & 2nd Round Pick
3. S.Taylor for Eddie Betts

Assistant Coach: G.McKenna

Captain: Mitchell

V.Captain: Hodge

Delist:
1. Little - Just hasn't shown enough at Box Hill level compared to the other young guys
2. Thurgood - like him because he gives his all but unfortunately it isn't enough for AFL level, would make a great team player at VFL level and wish him all the best but just can't keep him on the list any longer
3. Tough one. Unless we have any players wanting to leave or go home it seems like it will be between Smith/Dixon. I think both are eligible for veteran status on the list so it will just depend on what the coaches think we need going forward.

Trades:
Morton for Mitch Brown (WCE) - Send the boys home
Pick 30 + Dowler for Colin Sylvia (MELB)
Pick 14 + Taylor + Murphy for Ryan Griffen + Pick 28 (BULLDOGS)

Think I might be a bit generous with my trades ???

Assistant coach:
Mark Harvey - I think Connelly will go at year end and they will probably have a bit of a clean out of coaching staff so we should get him when he goes back to Victoria (as long as he will come after the issues when we were looking for a senior coach and the calling him or couldn't get his number thingy, dont fully remember what happened)

Captain:Vandenberg
Vice:
Mitchell and Hodge

Delist:
1. Little
2. Thurgood
3. Tough one. Smith/Dixon.

I agree on the delistings and overall on the trades.. I think Murphy could have good trade value, although id much rather keep him on the list. Extremely versatile player that could be a key player in any possible premierships, filling any necessary position.

Delistings:

Josh Thurgood: Just not big enough in the body to make a real impact, and with a few years in the system without putting on much weight, he will be shown the door.

Tim Clarke: trys hard and i admire him for that but just does not have the skill or class, the emergence of Sewell doesnt help him much either.

Richie Vandenberg: Just cant see him in our best 22

Joel Smith: Retire

Ben Dixon: Retire

Trades:

Beau Dowler and 4rd Rounder for Colin Sylvia
3rd Rounder for Ashley sampi or Rhan Hooper

Assistant Coach:
Wayne Carey

Captain: Luke Hodge

Vc: Sam Mitchel

This is depressing, is there nothing to look forward to this year? After the finals is when this should be talked about, who knows what injuries form will come in the next 8 or so games.

Delist:
Thurgood, Little, Smith

Trades:
1. Mark Williams, Jarryd Morton, 1st round pick for Matthew Pavlich
2. Robert Campbell, Rick Ladson, 1st round pick for Nick Riewoldt
3. Clinton Young for Angus Monfries

Assistant:
Glenn Archer

Captain: Luke Hodge
Vice captain: Sam Mitchell
