Absolutely

But it should have been a free, the Dockers got a goal from that passage of play

We must be paying them off.

That's the second win we've got from umpires.

McVeigh broke his arm touching the ball.

Hamling got tackled to the ground and held prisoner for a year without cause. Despite it only being one call and that we won by 5. It clearly won us the game.

Good call, Heavy B.

Another guy who I thought played a valuable support role today that seems to have flown under the radar a bit is Jy. Had some very important touches at the coalface, and kept cracking in and contributing all day.

The thing I continue to love about Jy is that for a player who is so freakishly skilled, he seems to really relish the grunt work. Has no problem working 'inside', attacks the contest ferociously, and wet weather footy doesn't seem to phase him a bit. Great workrate, too. Rapidly turning into a very well-rounded footballer completely at home at this level. And that's a beautiful thing.

Everything else from the game seems to have been pretty much covered which suits my lazy arse just fine. Although I would like to give a quick shout-out to Sarah Jones' jeans, Derm's above-average South Park joke, and our kick-ins, which is another area of our game that continues to improve with every week.

Absolutely f'ing loving this season.

I wouldn't mind working 'inside' with some important touches on Sarah Jones' jeans either...

The only downside with Sarah is the fact she's the granddaughter of * legend Jack Jones.

a variation of that headline might have been more fitting for the NM V WC prelim a few yeas back, when Jacobs himself was monstered in the goal square and the result was within a kick.

The scoreboard at the time may have been within a kick but at the end of the game, they had kicked out to a lead quite similar to what happened yesterday. It has always bothered me that people raise that one as it makes us look a bit hypocritical, especially after the Richmond Elimination Final a couple weeks earlier where we benefitted from that Ben Cunnington non-free kick. Swings and roundabouts, people.

I listened to both coaches' post game pressers in full and in each the same journos were throwing up the "what about that missed free kick which led to Atley's goal?" question, and in both cases the coaches didn't take the bait. In fact Lyon couldn't have dismissed the question any quicker than he did. Typical sycophantic local rag doing what they do.

That's the AAP copy.

The article in The West, written by the The West's own reporter, was quite complimentary I thought.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.

They were wrestling and you could equally have said the North player was being impeded but was able to get himself free with greater strength.

Let's siphon off all that mineral wealth and then let them secede.
Nah it was definitely a Freo freekick. I was genuinely astounded that play was allowed to continue because that was incredibly obvious.

I agree in theory - but we were crucified for most of the game IMO. It wasn't just one free kick against WCE.

That Cunnington one for example goes to your theory and was 10 seconds after what should have been a high contact free to us... swings and roundabouts are fine if it goes both ways.

I thought it was too, of course I though Fyfe would have trouble running as far as he did yesterday with 3 umps having off his knob but he managed it ok.

Id argue that our current form is on par or actually greater than anything we produced in 2014, 15 and first half of 2016.

Round 1 is played in dry conditions and we win.
The Melbourne game we were 5 points down half way thru the 3rd before fatigue set in from the Gold Coast game and they kicked away.
The Port game we could never get it back within the 4 goal buffer before losing by 33 points with the last kick of the game.

The less said about Browns and Ziebells kicking against Richmond the better.

I actually trust this side more. I know they’re not going to give up. It only just came to me when I was thinking about playing Brisbane this week. I was thinking we might have a let down, but then I realised I can trust this group to crack in again. It’s fantastic

Just noticed this after going 1 goal 8 in the first quarter we went 11.4 for rest of the match including 8.2 after half time when the weather got worse. What do we put that down to not knowing the ground?

There has been a competitive edge and consistent effort from the first bounce of the season.
Essendon, Collingwood, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Geelong, Carlton and Brisbane got us in 2014. All were terrible losses.
Adelaide, Hawthorn, Fremantle and Gold Coast belted us in the first half of 2015. But from that game onward to the first half of 2016 we lost 3 out of 21 which had us on the way to something amazing before injuries killed our year and we fell away.

Cant knock any of our 4 losses thus far and we can consider ourselves unlucky to not have an extra win on the board.

With our current output we keep a healthy list and there's every possibility Brad gets his highest ever finish after the home and away this year.

Lost count over the summer how many times i was asked how i was going to cope with season 2018.

I said to each and everyone one of em, as long as we run out every game and have a real dip i'll be happy.

Fair to say I couldn't be happier.

My Dad asked me why I was buying a home and away membership and if I really wanted to see 22 losses

Now he's back on the bandwagon of course, cheeky bastard

100% agree that the hold leading to the Atley goal was missed, but for a freo fan to bring it up as a reason they lost is absolutely pathetic.

They were getting away with shit all day that the umpires completely ignored.

Durdin getting taken out high in the middle by Sandi - Freo Goal.

At least 4 times Higgins was put down not just off the ball, but 50m off the ball- No call.

The call in the middle of "throw" when the umpire had literally no view of the contest- Guessing at best.

The amount of times a Freo player literally dived on the ball and hatched it but wasn't called for HTB was absurd.

The holding call was an absolute howler, but easily evened out by what was missed going the other way.
