State Focus WA 2024 - Western Australia’s junior footy talent

Well, seeing as the draft media don't rate the WA crop this year highly outside of Allan, #8 on your list of WA prospects feels to me like the sort of player that may not get drafted at all, or is a late pick at best. I think it's very possible that Boxshall and Angove don't get drafted, and they're above Dennis. Yet Dennis made U18 All-Australian at CHB. That's what makes me a bit confused.

Interesting, thank you!
I agree. Dennis has more support than Boxshall most certainly and as you say probably Angove also.

But mate, although this thread is a bit of a team effort and I will admit the contributors here have an influnce on list positions, I have to invest some of myself into the posts and the list positions.

I really think people have missed the boat on Hugh Boxshall. He's versatile (mainly mid now), prolific, skillful and just that one amazing courageous, Jonno Brown/Kenny Hunter style mark in the 18's champs is almost enough to give him another look.

I don't if Noobermensch has that mark saved somewhere but it was a ripper.

But I agree it seems Dennis is a better chance to be drafted according to folks here and in the media.

Sure do, I even posted it on my channel:

What do people think of Lucas Ravenhill (CL) the big 199cm forward?

He's starting to work out how to use his frame and impact contests. His goal kicking is sound. I don't think he's even fully tapped into his potential yet.

Who are the realistic predictions for the prospects expected to get drafted out of WA do you reckon.
I only think Allan, Gerreyn, Urquhart, Davis, Champion are certain to be drafted or rookied at least.

I'm sure 2 to 4 others will also get taken but I couldn't say who at this stage.

I mean I like Boxshall but I think Davo is the only poster who has him in a top 50.

Maybe a late bolter will get picked up. Toby Jones (S) has left his run very late being tucked away in PSA but he certainly has something. He'll at least step straight into WAFL league in 2025.

Certainly got potential with his size, but for a while couldn't seem to put good perfomances together consistently. Output improved dramatically in second half of the year averaging 2.5g and 4.4mks per game (compared to 1.25g,3.5mk in his first 8 games). If drafted I'd expect him to go quite late or rookie, but contested marking forwards around that height are a rare commodity, clubs should take a look.

Problem is this draft has a number of options.
Armstrong, Whitlocks, Shanahan, Faul, Sims... Most of those are in that 15-rookie range.
It also seems that mobile forwards are important in the modern game. Only have the ability to play 2 tall forwards.

At this time of year I like to look back at the Big Footy WA top 50's. Where are the players? Are they still involved in AFL/WAFL?

Here is 2022. 2023 Coming up later in the week.

Poor Sam Gilbey (CL). An outstanding prospect but when he broke his leg I guess it was tough for him. I rated him highly as you can see but it's tougher than I thought coming back from a serious injury. I wish him the best.

Jed Busslinger continues to play very well at VFL level without getting a look in for the Dogs. They converted Lobb into a defender rather than giving him a game. Another team has to come for him soon surely?

Is that what has happened. I don't follow players that much after colts. Glad to hear that he is still getting on the park.

He has talent he is another reserves player that could go onto a AFL list and impact a lot like Lawson Humphries has done
at Geelong
