Under Age West Australian Junior Talent 2025 Draft

TBH the entire 2024 WA list has been thin from day 1. I was fairly down about it and perhaps too critical and I don't think it went down too well with some but that it how I felt and what I saw right from the 16's championships.

There wasn't at lot of competition for places. A handful of players come along later thank goodness. It really was an effort to find 50 players. A guy who was 13 in the 2024 group last year might not have been top 30 in the current 2025 list.

The 2025 list has been fun to compile because there are new players emerging each week. It's more a case of who do I leave out and not risk missing a player who gets named in the WA summer squad later in the year.

Because I update the positions and the votes each week, I don't really do many projections. Although I'd say Cody Curtin (until the weekend) was a little in that category. (Not much but a little based on colts form) Cooper Ramsay is for sure but 200cm newcomers to the sport who slot into state teams after a month of trying footy can't be ignored and his story about being discovered in a "new to the sport big man talent search day" (Along with Harvey Spawton-Guy) interests me.

Spawton-Guy will probably stick with cricket. He's likely a fast bowler with his height but he looked ok in the 16's.

So really it's just a current as of today kind of list. It should work itself out by draft time 2025.

I'm quietly confident that the 2025 list has so many contenders that if a few fall away others will step in but we'll see. And there's a bit of everything. Stacked with mids for a change. Could probably do with another ruck but the WA selectors may have to pick an overager for that role once again.

WA just isn't producing many 200cm+ players. I'm always astonished when I see the Vic teams and the height of their players. Where do they find them....lol....maybe that's just sheer population.

Hopefully there are more changes. It would be great to see bolters emerge.

Who are the potential options for the state Ruckman in 2025. Are there many potential over-ages for the role or will it most likely be a 2025 draft prospect?

It's hard to know because clubs will decide which overagers will stay back in colts in Feb/March 2025.

Of the 2025 group we have Cooper Ramsay (EF/200cm), Frazer Rickson (S/196cm+looks taller now), Joshua Nomlatyu (EF/197cm-I feel he is more a full forward - his ruck craft isn't A-Grade), William Amos (EP/196cm+ but has missed the entire season with a knee injury). Subi have a kid named Luke Sanders who might fit the bill if he's grown beyond his 196cm listing in 16's.

So we need to find one more.

Not sure ...it looks quite open? Who is your tip mate?
Declan Pauline would be an obvious choice however he has been playing reserves the last 4 weeks or so, Fred Rodriguez has missed games due to state duty but i still believe he has been consistent enough to have the best odds. Other players to look out for could include Jack wooden, Harvey Otis, Elijah Stockden and my dark horse Robert Warrell.

I like it mate.....on the money

Rodriguez is a stronger bodied player, I personally loved his impact for WA at the u18s champs and I think that at least puts him on the radar to be drafted, he could be an early developer but we would only know that next year if he doesn't keep improving his athletic traits ect

Projecting a year or 2 out isn't an exact science, you might go at 80% accuracy compared to after the champs in their draft year where you might be 95% accurate, I hope people realise this and don't have ridiculous expectations from people giving you solid leads for the next 2 years...
Yeh as i said im not saying he is in that category like Harvey and Martinson

But he is extremely well developed for his age compared to peers, players will pnly catch up in this regard

I would be able to predict more by watching him, thats the game of recruiting

Otis Harvey and Martinson were extremely well developed 1 year ago and shorter, every gained on them in that regard and they stagnated. Again if they have elite speed/power and/or kicking then its not as much an issue

I would really like WA to find one extra tall defender and one extra ruckman for next year. Hopefully our contributors here on BF have a few names they can put forward to keep an eye on.

It's always difficult for WA to find very tall players.

Any names who might be a chance to get into this list in 2025 and maybe even contend for the WA 18's academy? Particularly if Cody Curtin (CL) is now a forward?

I have Kael Wallace (EP) at 40 as a key defender and I'm hoping he'll be one who can contend if he sets his mind to it.

Frazer Rickson (S) may be converted into a key defender at 197cm and I think that would help his career and to me CHB would suit him.

Matthew Becker (PT) and Jimmy Aylmore (S) have the potential to develop into front line tall defenders but form will be everything early next season. Moreover, Becker has been tried in other positions including wing and Aylmore is still finding his feet at colts level after a very good WA 16's campaign..

Harley Cummins (SD), the son of AFL/WAFL player Scott, shows promise as a defender but he's probably only 191cm or so.

So we need a few bolters to bob up.

In the ruck division I feel WA must once again look to another over ager. Who?, I do not know yet until the colts squads are announced for 2025. If anybody has seen a potential 199+ ruck I'd love to hear about it.

Cooper Ramsay (EF/200cm) is raw.....but very talented but he needs some help at state level. Joshua Nomlatyu (EF) is mainly a forward in my eyes but maybe he can pinch hit in the ruck. He's 197cm but African kids can compete against taller opponents.

Mids/forwards/medium utilities/def 100% covered.

Yeah they didn't look beyond the state 18's below agers from months ago. :(

Anyone at the AFL academy heard of Sam Swadling (WP) or Judd Marcello (WP)....?

Or, for SA names, no one knows of Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier?
