RoCo hysterical on SEN atm.

I've given up on SEN. They are apologists big time, not any iota of journalistic talent. In most interviews I heard yesterday, there were under breath comment or innuendo, that these drugs probably didn't do anything. Or that there wasn't any real effects......

No idea on any moral or ethical grounds on why, without positive tests, we simply cannot allow EFC and the players to get away with this.

Essendon won't just get the #1 pick at the draft, they'll get a priority pick and free agency exemptions to help the "rebuild".

JD, their issue is likely to be cash flow problems v players. Some of the estimates re what this could cost them will probably force them into administration unless the AFL steps in. With the AFL already having black holes in GWS and GC and having to fund numerous others clubs the question becomes how much more can they take on before the other clubs get their back up.

Its fine for the other clubs to back the AFL approach and have a 'help Essendon' view now but if it starts to smash their distributions then views may change.

I guess whether insurance covers any pay outs will play a big role.

What's he saying?

Generally high pitched and slightly unhinged answers. One caller in particular got really stuck in on the players' complicity and RoCo just completely lost his s**t over it, to the point where Hillier was trying to settle him down on air. The caller was being a bit of a d**khead but still.....

Carlton's bad recruiting decision dwarf the penalties handed to Carlton scary cap rooting. Getting Judd was a massive mistake for starters

Exactly. They would have screwed up the Gold Coast picks.

I find it amazing that the media really didn't expect players found guilty of doping to be suspended.

SOME of the media. The ones you would expect given their track record over the past three years. Most of the surprise was at the length of the suspension (which indicates a cluelessness about WADA, admittedly).

I really hope Tracey Holmes lives up to her reputation

That's exactly what everyone else is certain will happen, so Sir James will receive a virtual blowjob on stage, surrounded by adoring fans.

Tim Watson: CAS hearing gave players bad vibes

Following their WADA appeal hearing, the Essendon players had serious concerns as to their fate, but were surprised by the penalty handed down by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), says Tim Watson.

Watson said his son, Bombers captain Jobe’, had to a degree prepared for the worst case scenario.

“I think some like Jobe who went to the hearing and gave evidence at the hearing and had the feel of what was going on probably had a more acute understanding of where this might head yesterday,” said Watson on SEN radio.

"I think he had partially prepared himself for what may occur, but I think the severity of the penalty probably caught them by surprise and they were in shock after that.”

Watson says the lawyers gave an indication following the hearing there may have been some sort of agenda at play.

“They found themselves I think quickly on the back foot in terms of the hearing itself, I think it didn’t necessarily play out the way they thought it would,” he said.

They thought that they would have a fairer hearing than that, but I think there’s now an understanding that if you go before CAS then probably the job has already been done.

Except that they put on the official record they thought the hearing was fair.
Morons.

I would love to know Drew Petrie's thoughts on today's proceedings and WADA's relevance in the AFL.

Yeah, the Marsh interview was an eye opener. No idea whatsoever that guy. Terrible CEO.

I think I heard the dumbest response ever from a CEO in that interview

No, there is recent interviews with her, where she is defending Hird.

Did Port know the full story at the time?

With Ryder we did, so no compensation, which has already been stated by Chris Davies that the club won't even try and ask for any as we knew the risks.

Monfries on the other hand was traded before anyone knew anything was happening, so the club is 100% entitled to some sort of compensation.

Yep. I'm ok with the idea that EFC gets the #1 pick although you might be surprised by how much Carlton gives you a run at it.

Agreed. If Essendon are indeed guilty of systematic doping, then after 4 years they've had their hit. Surely at that point a #1 pick to try and pull the club forward is fair enough. As fans of the game I think the sooner Essendon can get back on track the better. Keep in mind that the administrators of this act are long gone and half of the players too.

And yes, the rookie upgrades / replacements is interesting too. EFC is really at the crossroads here - you could do a bigger version of what we did in terms of a 'rebuild' - accept three years of smashings to try and position yourself well in the medium term. Personally I think it's the way to go.

Agree entirely. It's pointless setting up games to win this year. Yes go out and be competitive, but ultimately it's all about seeing who can play and getting some legs in to the kids. Maybe we will even unearth a couple players that would not have got a chance otherwise.

I was just reading through the last few pages of the CAS thread on the Bombers board. What a bunch of deluded individuals.
I must give credit to ManWithNoName. I don't know if he posts in HTB but he seems to be the only voice of reason or a grip on reality over there
It's a real sheltered workshop there - some reasonable posters but they get drowned out by the deluded rabble.

How can the Chief Editor of the Herald Sun get one of the basic facts of this saga so terribly wrong.
Stated that CAS had a 4 man panel and that the verdict was a 2-2 split.
Surprised Gerard did not correct him.
Buffoon.
This is one point in time, of many, through watching this 360, that my size 10 and 1/2 nearly went through the Samsung.

Good God, I realise Robbo was upset but now it becomes urban myth - Well it was an even split decision and Essendon only missed out by that much. Perhaps Gerard thought it best to let Robbo grieve whichever way he wanted.

"Watson says the lawyers gave an indication following the hearing there may have been some sort of agenda at play."

There was an agenda: enforce the WADA code.

The fact that the AFL-constituted Tribunal found the players not guilty gave WADA added impetus to perform their duties to the fullest extent.

Gerard actually looked worried when he looked at Robbo lol

Open letter to the "regulars" of the HTB.

Dear regulars,

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I said mean stuff and trololo stuff over the past year. Why am I apologising? Because I have a newfound respect for you. Because all of these idiots on this board in the last 24 hours are ******* shit.

That's it.
I still think you're dapper, Jong.

Hats off to you sir. Least your "brave" enough to post on here. Kudos. Kim Jung would be proud

I wonder if Watson has considered the possibility that there was an "agenda at play" in regards to the AFL Tribunal?

Definitely the worst thing to come out of this is that Carlton may not win the wooden spoon.
Oh, don't write us off just yet. :D
