No idea who provides the best players but Nitschke would appear to be the Dewar doppelgänger

Makes sense, when the teams were named on the WAFL site on Thursday night he was in 43. Dewar was in 7, half the players were in unfamiliar numbers (eg Burgiel 14 and Culley 28), hopefully we don’t have a Castore situation when the season proper starts.

13 West Coast-listed players took the field as the WAFL Eagles defeated Claremont in a pre-season clash at Revo Fitness Stadium. Here’s how they fared.

Jake Waterman: Kicked three goals as the dominant forward for West Coast but could have had a day out, also kicking three behinds.

Elijah Hewett: Talent in spades. Attended most centre bounces and didn’t look out of place against a strong Claremont outfit. There’s room for improvement for the first-round pick but the hype is justified.

Harry Barnett: Showed glimpses of his potential, particularly his athletic ability, while playing as the No.1 ruck. Not the immediate answer to AFL ruck woes but a very exciting long-term prospect.

Samo Petrevski-Seton: Influential in the middle and pushed forward to kick two classy goals. Pace has him pushing for selection.

Luke Edwards: Made his mark on the contest without starring. Appeared to spend a bit of time on the bench late but Eagles shot down any suggestion of injury.

Brady Hough: A strong presence down back and composed with the footy as he pushed up the ground.

Isiah Winder: Has plenty of pace and hit the scoreboard with one goal and one behind.

Zane Trew: Had his moments in a tough midfield tussle. Garnered praise from the coach for second and third efforts.

Luke Foley: Strong in defence, barely had a misstep against a dangerous forward line.

Greg Clark: Played his role in the middle without putting his hand up for higher duties. A decisive year looms for the mature-age recruit.

Harry Edwards: Contested marking a feature. Unfortunately for Edwards, he was used as a stepladder for Claremont’s Jason Carter, who took a highlight-worthy hanger on his shoulders.

Tyrell Dewar: Will be one to watch after snaring a list spot through the rookie draft. Raw talent there but no real impact.

Coby Burgiel: Draftee still finding his feet in defence. Made a few errors but showed glimpses of his run and carry.

Finally, we hear something about Burgiel. He and Barnett haven't been mentioned a lot.

Up until about a fortnight ago Barnett was doing rehab for an ankle injury he had when we drafted him. He played some intraclub minutes a week ago then had his first hitout against Claremont on Saturday. That would explain why there’s been no talk about him

Burgiel has trained fully but has taken the more new traditional draftee route of simply learning the ropes without being a standout. From what I’ve seen he’s doing just fine but it’ll be a little bit of time before he’s demanding attention

I smell a "fine cotton" incident coming.... put a rejuvenated Chris Judd in SPS's jumper to play on Saturday

Good to hear that Burgiel went well, could be the attacking, pacy half-back we need?

Unfortunately he did his hammy late in the game so it’ll be a little while before we see him again

Or half forward. He is a very attacking player with amazing one touch ability and a great kick on top of his great agility and speed. But his biggest weaknesses coming into the system are him needing further development and lack of defensive game. I think it's a large part of why he's being played back TBH

Jamo and XON have been named on the bench, also Bazzo is back playing which is great to see.

Will be very interesting to see how Jamieson goes against Scott Jones who whilst isn't great around the ground is good in the ruck. If he can breakeven or outshine Jones in the ruck and show a bit around the ground I will be very happy with his rate of development.

Love that Baz is back playing footy, I didn't expect him to be back so early. Good on him.

Interestingly they have named four players from the AFL side's extended bench - Jamieson, Clark, O'Neill and Hewett.

Jamieson and Clark the only ones of those starting on-field so I assume neither O'Neill or Hewett will play. One will be the sub and the other left out of the WAFL game in case of a late change.

Would leave 14 AFL-listed players to play in this game, with only Baker, Yeo, Naitanui, Burgiel, JWilliams and Rotham the players unavailable.
Still no information on what Baker's injury is - not even a word of anything in the media (from what I've seen). I get he's not the most well-known or important player but given he's seemingly carried an issue since the start of Feb it'd be nice to have an update on where he's at.
