Carlton offered waite a 2 year deal but he refused this is why its taken so long for him to sign. He has been after a 3 year deal which Carlton have agreed to just going through the fine details now. Source- Waites sister

Good so maybe he was more interested in a longer deal, then a big increase good to hear. This way it doesn't hurt the club signing the future stars uncontracted after 2012. I guess he wanted security he wouldn't be on the chopping block in the near future.

Re: waite and carlton agreed to terms

Jarrod is not going anywhere and is an integral part of our structure while we chase that 17th flag.

Seems to be a lot of hate around here of late for him and i am dumb founded why this is. He is Carlton through and through and it is not fault his body sometimes lets him down but gee watch out when he is right as it is an awesome sight. Only needs to control his on field temper a bit IMO and he is as passionate as the day is long regarding his approach to footy.

Lots of people talk about loyalty when discussing players etc and crack the sads when players want to change clubs or go home etc and now the club is working a deal to keep Jarrod with us and people are still unhappy.

Loyalty is a 2 way street and we are currently being very loyal towards Jarrod while a deal is being negotiated and this is a great thing. :thumbsu:

Waite will finish his career a Blue.

If his body stays right for a full season he'll make us an infinitely better side!

Hope we signed him for as long as possible :)

Re: Waite and Carlton agree to terms

Waite shouldn't be getting an extra two year contract than Thornton.

Regardless, will of course be happy to see official confirmation he has signed on, though I'm not sure there was really any doubt.

Re: Waite and Carlton agree to terms

Doesn't deserve a 3 year deal based on how little he has played the last few years.

Critically important player for us, but 2 years is right on the money for mine.

Re: Waite and Carlton agree to terms

not too unhappy with 3 years personally. certainly takes the pressure of someone like hampson getting played forward (though if hampson doesn't do too well in the first few games we'll be at him again anyway). i don't think we need him to kick 6 a week like we needed fev to do.

pulling up some stats... 2010, 36 goals from 16 games. full year of that would be another 50 goal forward for us. 16 from 12 in 2011, that includes concussion first round and injury against bulldogs (?). kicked 2+ goals half of those weeks. still averaged a tick under 15 possessions as the year before.

can certainly understand the apprehension for 3 years given some of his brainfades, but we're not all that well off for tall forwards and he can take a mark.

+1

I'd say the reason we are forced to give him the 3 is due to GWS.

I'm sure he'd want to stay a Blue but even he would be calculating 2 years + being a blue for life vs 3 years and double the money at GWS.

We have to pay overs.

On the money.
Expansion clubs the last two years and to this point we have not lost a player.
Great work by the Blues management.
Sometimes you gotta give a little.
If that loyalty is shown to a person that has Carlton running through their veins I'm happy with that.

Re: Waite and Carlton agree to terms

Really happy with this. Carlton people need to be looked after, it doesn't mean you have to pay over for 3 years either but you look after your own.
Imagine if we had the luxury to have Waite & Walker playing flanks next year instead of KP positions???

Not wanting to discredit the OP, but I wouldn't be cracking open the Dom just yet.

It may well be the case, but I can't see any reason for the CFC handing over three years to Waite.
2 years for a 29y.o. is really fair enough for both parties you'd think and let's just see how things go thereafter.

Especially a 29 y.o. with Waite's injury history.

Re: waite and carlton agreed to terms

I don't mind a 3 year deal as long as its heavily backended to take advantage of the veterans list. Im sure Swanny would have done it this way.

Or a 2 + 1 with minimum games required as others have suggested.
