To clubs who are struggling on and off the field #1 draft picks are worth more than what they offer the team on field in 2009. Regardless of whether Melbourne pick Watts, Rich, Natanui or even Vickery; the player represents a summer of free fluff pieces in papers, increased exposure for sponsors, better free to air tv coverage and thousands of memberships. Sounds silly, but the intangible benefits far outweigh anything gained by bringing Hansen to the club, especially when Newton is every bit as good.

The eagles need a key forward. We always have = we should be trying to get one of those.

Most of the gun KP forwards have gone early in the draft - we should use our early pick for one if any are available. You can still get quality mids later in the draft.

I wonder if Watts is on the table for WC if Melbourne take Nat (which supporters are starting to agree with since the warnock trade fell through). Its a no brainer that we could do with class in the midfield, but ebert is going to be a gun and we are all assuming they got it right with masten not to mention we still have kerr. Then theres priddis, butler, J-mac, A.selwood, S.Selwood and about 6 other guys in the middle. Down back looks ok also at the moment theres is at least one position that is not filled and that is a genuine tall FF. We got brown but theres a chance he will be down back, and has only played 5 games for not many goals. McKinley has had a greater impact than him.

Hansen I agree with, Hurn on the other hand your being harsh. He's only just turned 21 and played 36 games. He has heaps of upside left and will be a very good player for us
