We better not make a straight swap Jackson Paine for Patrick Karnezis (Edit: too bad, we did)

Sums it up not big enough to be a KPF not quick or flexible enough to be your 3rd tall

His a poor version of JA

I disagree about him not being big enough to be a key forward, I don't think he will definitely make the grade. But at 194cm and a touch under 100kgs he is similar heights to Roughead 193, A Black 192, J Brown 192 give him time to develop and I don't see his height as a restriction.

Its taken someone like Aaron Black at North in his 4th season to have a breakout year, some players will look better quicker.

What's with the not tall enough crap? He's the same height as Fev.

*edit* Just saw him listed @ 194, so he's 3cm taller than Fev. Great height for a FF.

He's tall enough, I just don't think he's good enough. I was hoping that he might turn into the same sort of player as Aaron Black (who is shorter and lighter), but I think that's wishful thinking. If the club has decided to trade him, then so be it. Best of luck to him.

Toby Thoolen was 195cm.

I can see him becoming a handy player, nothing more though, it's probably a win win for us and Paine, we'll get the type we have a need for and Paine should get more senior opportunties.

Paine didn't get games in 2013, even though a player of his sort was sorely needed at times and even after putting some good games together mid season. He went downhill after that - confidence? Whatever, it didn't really seem to be working out for him or the pies. I'm happy if we move him on, nothing worse than putting another year into a dead end, a la Cam Wood.

Even if all we get is another risk, potential list clogger, I think a fresh start best for all, so win win.

If PK is as good as everyone is saying, and i believe Brisbane would know his skills and potential better than most of us, but why wouldnt Brisbane play him throughout the season to inflate his trade value?

In hindsight Lions have about 5 players going. PK probably rates last of them or similar to Yeo if rate all on their draft positions: Polec 5, Longer 8, Docherty 12, PK 25, Yeo 30

Yet expected returns on the others are all down except Yeo. (24, 25, 33, 50?, 28)
Basically Lions returns for players leaving suck! With others not getting good returns even if PK had starred his return would still be less than worth.

Probably comes down to improving the value of a player they are going to keep (the hypothetical 'one' who gets a game because PK doesn't).

Opportunities for Paine will struggle to materialise with Cloke, Reid and White going to be preferred ahead of him.

IMO, if we can secure him a trade elsewhere for greater opportunity such as Brisbane who could use another KPP, we should move him on. He needs further game time for his development because he does have his strengths, most notably contested marking.

I'd be happy to swap Paine for Karnezis.

Where can we get this Toby Thoolen?!

Maybe there's some in this truck!

While I know nothing of Paine, he sounds like the type of player we like to recruit and he'll fit in well with the collection of key position prospects that are never really going to make it. Lisle, Martin, McGuane, plus a bunch of wannabee draft picks that no one will every hear of. It's like we take anyone in the hope that one of them is going to eventually turn it around. If that ever happens, wait for the delistings of everyone else at the end of that season!

The trade of Karnesis for Paine is probably a swap of a never will be for a never will be...

ps. there's some choice quotes about brisbane in this thread. sadly, they're pretty much spot on...

Hine stated on his interview after the Adams/heater trade that Karnezis 'meets a need'. I think this comment is telling. Karnezis is a good size, athletic and skilful. He has all the attributes to play that third tall role Jack Gunston played so well in the GF. Nobody else on our list has the attributes to play this role, certainly not Paine who is too slow.

If, and it is a big if, he can improve his consistency then Karnezis could become one of the first players pick. He, Cloke and White could become a very good forwardline.

But moving Paine along this season opens up the spots for next years KPF's next season's stronger draft. QStick will be done by then as well so we can look to bring in a couple of guns next year. And GWS might like to trade one of theirs by then as well !!

Sounds like Goldsacks role
