List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

If Beams just wants to be close to his dying dad why did he stipulate that he would never go to the Gold Coast even though that is where his dad lives?

Because his father expressed and explicit desire to see his son's play together. And before you ask, 'why not bring Claye to Collingwood and move his dad to Melbourne as well'... it's because his father's support network (which is so important when battling cancer) is in Brisbane.

But by all means ignore a dying man's wish so your club can get overs on a trade. Par for the course for Collingwood and Ed I spose.

Why is he in America living it up with Shaw as we write? Shouldn't he be spending quality time with his dying dad?

Because quality time with your father doesn't mean spending every waking minute with him. Because taking a break from the fish bowl and letting off some steam is good for your mental health and general well being. It recharges the batteries and means when you return the pressures of 'normal' life you've got more resilience to engage with those around you, to support them and enjoy your time with them.

Quality time is about those little moments that happen as part of every day life, they can't be manufacture or forced, or timed to a schedule. You just have to be near the ones you love so that those opportunities can happen. God forbid his father takes a sudden turn for the worse and Dayne can't be with his dad to support him when he needs him most. All because Collingwood are trying to extort a young player out of Brisbane at the expensive of the Beams' family.

Shame. Shame. Shame.

That actually reads as though we offered pick 21 on its own.

This. They just wanted to create an artificial, arbitrary "they'll blink" point for us before the real real that is bearing down us.

We didn't blink.

Collingwood, you have until Thursday 2pm.

In the mean time, bring on their next posturing press release trying to create the illusion that their "Deadline" actually meant something.

We should start a pool on what their next hopeful leak is going to be. We've had Gold Coast, three way trade for Dangerfield, Treloar from GWS, and that the board has endorsed keeping him at the club next year.

What's next I wonder? They'll trade him to the Rabbitohs for Sam Burgess?

Collingwood have put out a statement on their website hoping for other clubs to get involved.

The deadline is so arbitrary.

Anyone thinking this ends for sure at 5 needs to step back.

Brisbane's chances of still completing a trade haven't ended yet, but the period in which we were negotiating exclusively with the Lions has and who knows what might pop up next week now that we're not dealing exclusively with the Lions (remember there are things that can be done to on our side of the fence alleviate cap pressure for a club like the Suns if that's what it takes to facilitate a trade). As the Collingwood brass (and board) have said this isn't a fire sale - we actually want to keep him and he is a required player under contract.

One interesting thing to note is that if you did get Beams then having both him and Christensen added to your midfield rotation (along with Redden and Rich returning) will likely result in someone getting squeezed out (possibly a couple) and that's not counting Claye who would be an obvious casualty or even guys like Crisp and Lester (who probably wouldn't even get a look in).

There's not really an option to throw them in as a permanent small forward either with Zorko / Taylor / Greene already doing quite nicely in your mosquito fleet and I'm fairly certain that none of your current midfield rotation would go for being a bench rider and only playing half a game each week.

Just something to consider.

Just wait. Is Beams a free agent next year?
Restricted free but also out of contract. So you can offer more money than us and get him or he can walk for nothing and go in the draft or you can trade to get him. We'll probably take less next year.

Q. Would they accept Aish (Pick #7) + McStay (Pick #25) ?

They might but as a club you guys would be dumb to do that. Aish and McStay are both keepers.

Then what's wrong with Pick #5 & Pick #25 ?????

Noticed not many smug collingwood supporters throwing their two cents in ATM. The realisation that inventing imaginary trades on Facebook and having reporters (so called) write articles on them, aren't enough to generate "winning" trade for them. Must be very dark place for them ATM.

Scenario 1:
We get Beams.
Collingwood take picks 5 and pick 25 to the draft

Scenario 2:
We don't get Beams, instead take picks 5 and 25 to the draft.
Collingwood lose Beams in 12 months time, for either nothing, or very little.

Fanciful, deluded Scenario 3:
We don't get Beams, instead take picks 5 and 25 to the draft.
Collingwood manage to involve GC/GWS, or turn around the player who they have completely shafted and blocked from returning home for family reasons, over the next 12 months.

I'm not fussed with either 1, 2, or 3. :)

Scenario 3 has happened more then once. Mitch Clark for example. So I wouldn't call it fanciful.

Scenario 4 is that Brisbane offer more.

Cheers. Appreciate the insight on our own list

Brisbane and Pies at an impasse. I don't see how a deal gets done. The only possibility is the suns or he stays for a year.
