I can get over the whole Judas thing, but it’s pretty underwhelming when you think you’re a chance at getting Scarlett. 10 years coaching at StKida..StKilda ffs.. Not exactly known for their defensive structures.
No chance of getting scarlett ..he has ruled himself out of coaching next year ..seriously if you are going to complain at least know the facts

You hearing something Matty??

so Hamill is locked in, whose next? Hopefully we have another assistant locked in tomorrow
Not hearing anything aside from our known interest in Lappin and the lack of news on him extending at Cats. Adding 2 and 2 together, hoping to get 4!

St Kilda made Hamill an offer which would've made him one of the three highest players at our club. We rated him eighth best player, and Elliott's insults made matters worse. This is from someone who was directly involved in the negotiations.

If someone offered me double my salary to change jobs, and my current employer didn't value my work, I'd leave too. The 'Judas' remarks from some people I'll politely describe as uninformed at best.

Yep, exactly what I remember hearing

Some of the insults were quite disparaging and disgusting, shirt puller or tugger inferring a ****ter was one I heard.

Hamill was the first player that we “really wanted” to keep that left, Elliotts hubris for such a long time was finally starting to affect the club as a whole.

Hamill left, then not even 10 months later city hall caught up with us and all Elliott ever did was piss city hall off….we haven’t recovered since.

The last 20 years after the first 130+ couldn’t be described any better than a full blown curse, I have good vibes right now

Maybe we just wait and see yeah? Good coaches bring intangibles that go towards a successful culture with full buy in. If he can be part of that here we will be successful.

Sounds like PR mumbo jumbo.

Nothing like addressing what kind of defensive structure does he bring given there's a sample of his work in the role at another club.

Seeing as we can’t seem to help ourselves and continue to recruit “Old Boys” cause surely that is going to break us out of our funk and inbreeding. So who from the past should we also recruit to fill our Assistant roles:
Been in the System:
- Adrian Hickmott
- Daniel Harford

Standards and Character:
- Andrew Carazzo
- Alex Silvagni

This could be funny:
- Cameron Cloke
- Blaine Boekhurst
- Karl Norman

gee the list was short for items 1&2 when I looked over the last few decades, anyone got any other suggestions.

Right after you break it down as to what our new defensive coach actually brings to the table in terms of record as a defensive coach in the league.

I'm interested in what he's actually done of any note in the coaching position we've hired him for.

That’s not what your first post was about.
You pointed to a comment about Hamill coming back being like the return of a judas which adds very little to the discussion about what he can contribute as a defensive coach.

I dont have a grudge ,i didnt want him back as i have doubts about what he brings as his 10 year stint at stk doesnt appear to be a roaring success from where i sit.
Congratulations you are a fan of Aaron ,i am a Carlton fan and member.

I’d imagine that the fact St Kilda’s player list has largely been poor over that 10 years has a lot more to do with their lack of success than anything Aaron Hamill may or may not have contributed...a bit like how Hawthorn haven’t made the finals for the last 3 years despite having one of the greatest coach of the modern era...I say let’s give him a chance.

Finally, I am also a Carlton member.

I was referring to this part.

"Hopefully they keep him behind the scenes so that i can just pretend he is at another club."

Just so i'm not reminded of how we got our defensive coach from a really terrible defensive team.

I’d take Geelong’s defence over StKilda’s any day of the week. I think the results speak for themselves.
Maybe, but haven’t we done this dance before?
Wasn’t Amos highly rated defensive coach at Geelong who suddenly turned to rubble at Carlton?
Also what if Geelong’s defensive record is down to other factors like the players or being well drilled across every line more so than Scarletts contribution?
My point is I don’t think any of us know.

Ok that’s fine you are entitled to think that.
Personally I have no idea if Hamill is any good, but at least he’s been a defensive coach the last two years which have been very difficult due to COVID with mixed results, so I don’t think it’s a complete catastrophe.
I’m certainly happy to back the judgement of the people who appointed him.

So now we have Hamill as def coach how many more coaches do we get? One for every line? What about senior assistant? Is L Power still development coach or does he take over the mids?

A couple of weeks ago Voss was at the bottom of my ideal coach list
and I shuddered at the thought of Hamill..

But since Cook has come on board and we put in place a coaching panel, that actually ran a proper process...
I am quite happy and excited for the future..

Voss/we clearly have a vision now and a direction of how to get there...
Assistants are being picked on a particular skill sets and attitudes, which I can not remember us ever doing...

Hopefully all the people, who are upset here (totally understand) will eventually see what the rest of us can see, a future...

I'm a bit down about it all. Both seem like bottom-of-the-barrel appointments and don't excite me in the slightest. In fact, I'm quietly terrified we're being set up for another decade of failure thanks to management not being able to run a football club. After finally putting together a talented list, we sack the list manager, hire and sack untried coaches and then go with options who don't exactly scream coaching success.

I'm trying to remain positive, looking for signs in the stars etc, but I'm so unenthused about the club right now.
