The loss hurts, but schit, we gave it our all, the effort could not be questioned, the execution in a high pressure game was off, the implications of the loss are huge, but i'll take a loss where we gave it our all against a very good team, it still hurts though.

You simply cannot win games with so few contributors. Buddy, Mitchell, Brown & Sewell were about the only ones to put in a 4 quarter effort.

Leaving Selwood & Ablett to do as they pleased for the entirety of the game didn't help either.

Our kids ( Renouf, Kennedy, Schoenmakers) struggled under the intense, finals-like conditions also. Shiels didn't look as overawed as the others.

You can never blame the umpires for losing. Geelong are the MOST pampered, looked after species by them that you will ever see. They also stage for the most,and they get them..Any 50/50 decision always go to the cats..I hope that the Saints beat the crap out of you on GF day.. I know who I will be barracking for, and it won't be Geelong!!!! I want to see them cry again, OH WHAT FEELING that would be..

As much I'm in agreement with complaints about the umpiring, which was inconsistent to say the least, it shouldn't have made a difference.

We were all over the Cats up to 3 quarter time and should have been a lot further in front, but we shot ourselves in the foot with some ridiculous turnovers resulting in cheap goals to Geelong, along with some very poor kicking at goal ourselves.

Even still, we were far enough in front and should have never, ever let this one slip from being 28 points up in the last quarter. A lack of composure across the board in the last 15 minutes cost us big time. And as much as I don't like to single him out, Jesus, WTF was Kennedy thinking???!!

We should have beaten one of the top teams in the comp today after doing the same last week, so at least we know what we are capable of, and if we can keep producing the type of footy that got us in a commanding position today for the remainder of the season we may yet scrape in to the 8.

However, I have a nagging feeling we are just going to miss out, and if that's the case, this loss that should never have happened will be the reason.

I thought Kennedy had a blinder but yes should of had a shot but hey how many games has the kid played.

For all you hawks supporters who want to bag the hell out of some of players bugger off until you are prepared to show some real support!

And yes Selwood would have to be the second most protected player - 1st is Ablett - how many times do you have to tackle him and hold him before we get a free kick!

You can't blame this loss if we don't make the 8, at least there was decent effort, what about the game against Port, Adelaide, West Coast and the Bulldogs - those games are the ones that cost us and the last quarter against Melbourne when we shut up shop after getting a good percentage boost to only win by 20 or so - they are the games that hurt us big time!

Bad luck today guys, this must be the most demoralising loss of the season i'd say.

The Hawks are definitely too good not to make the finals, and i hope you guys do, i mean jeez what an exciting game it was this afternoon.

Much like you all i couldn't believe Kennedy handballed when he was in a perfect position to have a shot, it was pretty poor reading of the situation and taking initiative to do something about it. But i just have the feeling that he and some the other less experienced players are under instructions to handball first from the looks of it. But in saying that you can't blame him for the loss, i still can't understand why Hodge was not in the middle in the last quater when you guys were under the pump, i'm sure Brown could have taken Ling in the forward line.

Anyway, hope you guys make the 8, it'll be a shame if you don't, love watching you guys play today.

Him getting rubbed out and the rest of them feeling a little more sore and sorry heading into September makes me feel minutely better. I cannot believe how many SOFT free kicks selwood gets (and if one geelong supporters trots out that flipping standard "he puts his head over the ball" line) I am sure I will vomit.

Really, really disappointed about our fourth quarter fade out today - really thought we had them on the ropes at 3/4 time and with scarlett not comiing back out thought it would be game over. It's not to be - they had some lucky bounces and DECISIONS go there way, but that's life I suppose.
