WE need to appeal our sanctions

I don't we come off very well in comparisons with Essendon at all.

We didn't fight our corner, we best over backwards & forwards to accommodate the league.

That's not professional, that's submissive

We took QCs in there all guns blazing. Only thing we didn't do was involve the media. essendon hired spin doctors from the get go, although some might suggest they have not got their money's worth. Even Leigh Matthews laughed at the thought that Hird actually paid lawyers for advice (as it has been so awful). Ours was a much quicker situation too. Didn't have the long build up (thank god) that this one has had.

How hard would it be to get 2013 picks reinstated?

Melbourne virtually had their punishment automatically appealed by having the fine reduced.

We've lost a first and second round pick directly, further assets by having to delist Tippett, a significant sum of club cash and have endured suspensions to key officials. This has produced a down year for the club, and it could easily be argued that another year of lost picks is driving the stake in a bit far.

'shoddy paperwork'? Really Jen. He cheated and the paperwork reflected and proved it.

Ridiculous. Tippett was promised that he'd be traded to a club of his choosing - true of every player - and for the amount the crows would have received if he'd left for GCS - a stupid thing to offer. Plus they said it was certain he'd get sponsorship income, and they were so certain they'd pay it if they were wrong. Which they weren't, and even if they were it'd still be inside the salary cap.

Let's compare that to tanking and unauthorized human experimentation. Or the ACTUAL salary cap rotting of Carlton.

We're complete soft ***** and we folded. Should have fought it. Simple as that.

Exactly. We took a bunch of QC's in at 20k per day, then we took a big breath and roared: Milk or sugar with your tea Mr Vlad Sir?

Its worse we wasted all that money on lawyers having postured about telling our side of the story, and how we'll be in a good place at the end, and how we're shocked to be sitting here, only to roll over plead guilty and hide behind confidentiality. The league has shown it is quite happy to make things public

Basically we huff puffed and camped it up while waving flaccid lettuce about.

It's amazing that the Lions are going to throw out their board, and yet here we are ...

One kick away from a grand final last year....and this is the best you can come up with:rolleyes:

Someone's living in the past.....we aren't even playing in finals this year. did you catch the sydney game? we got smashed, outmuscled and beat up by the reigning premiers. if we'd made the grand final last year we would've go smashed too. we need more players with mongrel who will play uncompromising football week in week out. One kick away from a Grand Final but a long way from a flag as this year has shown.

If the Bombers don't get a much harsher penalty than we did then yes, I expect our club to making some noise and requesting a review.

However, at the same time i'm pretty darn pleased Trigg (and Harper) treated the AFL's authority and judicial process with the respect it deserves rather than carrying on like a self entitled whingeing 10 year old hoping to bring the whole league crashing down rather than manning up and taking the punishment.

and Essendon's belligerent attitude is another reason why they should receive a far bigger penalty than us.
(i'm sure our salary cap indiscretions got no mention across the world's media unlike Essendon's drug escapades)

And you think you can tell the future:rolleyes:
Can you give me the lotto numbers please:p

I knew I was going to double post;)

They are waiting to see how it unfolds. They are watching intently.

I think that they should get on the front foot and start making loud noises that Essendon should receive far worse penalties than us.

I'm very cynical about Vlad & the AFL and after hearing Liddle tonight re the progress on negotiations for appropriate sanctions, I believe Essendon are going to get slapped with a lettuce leaf (in comparison to us, Melbourne, Carlton).

You just wish the AFC would do this but you know its not going to happen.

Our penalty is what we negotiated - it can't now be revisited just because another club is doing a better job of negotiating their penalty

I'd assume that we wouldn't appeal it unless we sacked Trigg, or he stood down, and his continued involvement was surely a trade off in the severity of our punishment - and there is no way he'll twist the AFL's tail given his tenuous position.

We absolutely should appeal though; Essendon's crime is infinitely worse than ours; they'd need to lose picks for a decade in comparison to our penalty.

I'm going to wait on my judgment til the AFL hand down the penalties to Essendon ... however, it would not harm the Crows to remind the AFL:
  • Essendon have done far, far, far more damage to the AFL's brand
  • Injecting most of their players regularly with drugs you claim you don't know what they are (even though they damn well do know some are banned) + experimental drugs not yet for human consumption is way, way worse than dodgey Tippett contract deal.
  • AFC cooperated (unfortunately too much), whereas the Dons/Hird have started a war - further damaging the brand.
If the Dons don't get a far greater penalty than the Crows then yes, they must appeal. If the AFL no longer likes stripping draft picks then that's crap & we should be asking for this years & last years back ... & hand them our points from this year.

The Fat Contollers' job will be untenable if the penalties on the Dons are lower than the Crows, particularly given Hird has taken him to court. It will be a very poor look for the "competition".
