Awesome win (let’s face it, we’d all of taken a 33 pt win before the game).
Isaac, the CHAD, and Rowy were brilliant!!
Errol got better n better throughout the game.
Our defence is looking great, with Tmac & Melican leading the way… Roberts is looking better by the minute (really glad the coaches have backed him in).
Everyone else played their role with great intensity for all 4 quarters.
Geez I love JMac, he’s becoming the heart and soul of the team.
I’m concerned about Hayward, who keeps making bad decisions or silly errors, although he still laid a super tackle that led to a goal.
Lloyd and Campbell will need to lift to stay in the team.
Anyway, HUGE start to the year!! 🤗
I'm less worried about Campbell - want to see him get more of the pill, but he is a quality user of the footy, and with a lethal left foot. 340 odd metres tonight with only 9 possessions (7 kicks). Finding his best role in the team is going to be a challenge for a season or two more I suspect, but think they will give him plenty of opportunities.

Lloyd is a player I think could come under pressure to maintain his spot, if we stay relatively injury free. I think he has been a terrific footballer for us for a very long time, and his experience and leadership should not be underplayed. And it isn't unusual for his starts to the season to be relatively slow at times either - but competition for places in this team is going to get fierce pretty quickly, and there are going to be some stiff players in amongst that.

Loving what we've seen from Roberts too - he is young, raw and has plenty of body strength to build. But he makes good decisions, his tackling and pressure is good, and he is a good user of the ball.

Give it a couple of years - if we manage to keep the gang together, we are going to have so many players that can rip a team apart by foot from the half back line and into the midfield. If Gulden doesn't get ya, Blakey will. If he doesn't get ya, Campbell will. If he doesn't, it might be Matty Roberts that does. Still a lot of developing to go (not everyone can be a superstar from day dot), but by gee we are building a versatile list and a team where we should never have to rely on one player to always dig us out of a hole. You will always have special footballers and superstars, but the best teams often have so many options that it just becomes too hard to 'catch 'em all' and someone will get you.

Agree with everything you said … it’s a great time to be a Swans supporter 👍

Had an average game but with a midfield that didn’t deliver.
Why would I prefer that, but not every game you will get freebies and youll need to do thigns the hard way

2 weeks in a row he hasnt executed on key actions a fwd needs to do

Amartey iffy too

I'd be disappointed if the coaches weren't quietly concerned about our talls fwd regardless of the win

Its about winnign the flag and its a small worry right now. I said theres the whole season to try address this
To be honest you probably had the Pies winning by 5 goals. So maybe it’s just a case of nitpicking at a solid win against the reigning premiers on their home ground.

Enjoy the win rather than look for perfection after round 1.

Who doesn't love Gulden when he kicks the footy? Like poetry in motion 🦿.

Tonights game, scoreline flattered the Pies but you have to love this footy club in how we go about it. Heens super, Logan excellent, Warner and I could go on. Grundy gives us dynamic and first use more then ever. Coaching, Horse wad great!

I don't live in Melbourne anymore and would have loved to attend tonight but I still felt a part of the crowd cheering the lads on.

This is why I love the game, this club for seeing effort like this.

Long season and I hope we continue the effort but regardless our culture remains the same as it always has since we became who we are now.

Bloods, SM-SS footy club
Never give up.
At one stage I had to cross my legs to keep everything G rated in the stands.

It is certainly something that will need to improve significantly, but I always think of 2012 when I think about how, just sometimes, teams can win flags without having a dominant tall or indeed a dominant tall forward line.

It needs a very good spread of goalkickers from midfield, which we had in 2012 to do it - but it is possible. We had 9 guys that year kick 20 or more, plus 18 from McVeigh. The only true permanent "tall" forward of the lot was Sam Reid, ably assisted by a suite of very fine midfielders that were more than handy forward (Goodes, O'Keefe, Bolton, Jack, Kennedy), great years by a couple of smaller forwards (Jetta and McGlynn), and a solid contribution from the greatest dual premiership hyphenator (25 goals).

Ideally we want 75+ goals for the year out of the trio of Amartey, McDonald and McLean. That's give or take 3 goals a game collectively. Ideally one would kick 40+ and really solidify themselves as No 1 forward. If our midfield can keep contributing as it has through the first 2 rounds, I have no doubt that would be more than enough to have right in contention. There are plenty of players in the midfield group that can roll forward and kick goals as they need to - like we had in 2012.

I did think Pies were going to win so what does this have to do with nit picking

I thought Pies were going to win because we would struggle to score with McDonald and Amartey

I am enjoying the win. Looking at areas to improve its not roses every where btw

Been a few comments about McDonald getting "cheap" goals. He worked his defender away from goal and broke back most of the night. Comprehensively won that contest. Kick straight he has six. Has goal assists. One-percenters.
This is the style of play we apparently wanted from him. We got it. Cheap goals. Really?

Just on McDonald and getting 'cheapies' two adages come to mind;
1 get to where the ball is going to go
and
2 get to where you can be most dangerous.

He got those 'cheapies' because he ran to the best spot to receive the ball and impact the game.

We are forever bemoaning our tall fwds don't get separation, yet Logan knew the best way he could impact the game was moving into space goalside.

I thought he had a good game tonight, moved well, found space, provided a target.
Any time a fwd can take 5 marks inside 50, kick 4 goals and get a couple of I50s, plus a goal assist, I'd mark it down as a good game.

Couldn't care less if he kicks 1000 cheap goals in his career. As you say, he is getting them because of everything else he is doing around the park.

He will hopefully kick plenty on the mark and set shot too - but the work rate he has, and endurance, now coupled with growing strength shows just why he has all the tools to be an absolute weapon (Hands off you smelly Freo rats haha!)

Moore leaves his man to impact the contest and its happened heaps in the past where players get out the back of collingwood

Not just mcdonald, amartey was MIA

Anyway ill drop it only time will tell on how the fwd line goes

On a positive note. Fox is everywhere. Wasnt sold on him playing Ryan Clarkes role when he first started out in it but hes executing every time he needs to clamp & attack. Quaynor unsighted

Note to Garry Lyon: his name is ROBBIE Fox.

Not Ryan Fox.

I wonder if his hammy issues is impacting Amartey when he kicks for goal? Needs to get way better.

McCartin is god down back. Simply superb tonight. Defence overall was fantastic, just a wall.

I thought our field kicking was chefs kiss sublime tonight. Just a joy to watch.

Rowbottom, Heeney & Chad were superb.

Mcinerney too, thought he was excellent.

Again a very even performance. The only two players I struggled to find were Lloyd and Campbell. They may have done OK but I didn't see it. Like last week our bottom players DEMOLISHED theirs.
It will challenge the Match Committee fitting Adams, Parker and eventually Mills back into the side. Could actually make us worse. 🤯

Lloyd did some good work on Daicos according to Mongrel Punt.

For those wondering about the ball>> overhead camera incident - none of the Umps saw the ball hit the camera, so play on.

It's fine because it didn't affect anything, but imagine hitting it going forward in the dying moments of the game,

A potential mark turned into a ball up into draining the last 4-5 seconds on the clock.
