Me and a fair few Saints fans have always loved Acres.

He has an amazing tank. He has a strong body and stands up well in tackles, good hands and can rack up possessions.

His problems at the Saints were due to our coaches (due to his aforementioned physical attributes and height) playing him as a “Mr Fixit” up forward or in the ruck. It was really stupid as it nullified his best abilities which are running ability and racking up possessions.

Throwing him around position-wise also had an adverse effect on his confidence: he is a bit of a confidence player and just needs to be left in one position which you’ve done this year at Freo.

His only knock is his kicking/decision-making. But this is counteracted if he’s played in midfield and racks it up a lot as his sheer weight of possessions mean you can live with the odd error. And for all his frustrating errors there’s something about him that borders on genius at times, he makes time slow down and can see things that others can’t.

Really happy to see him play a game like he did today (as tough as it was knowing he left due to our mismanagement). Leave him on the wing and you have a seriously good player on your hands that will be your winger for years in a position that is back in vogue in the competition.

Just a little irony that you failed to include; he's our winger because you stole our former winger.

Yeah, for me and a few others it was a real shame it worked like that with the trade.

While Blake was a WA boy, we took to him from the start and could see his potential. He’s a difference maker (like you saw today), but he’s the type of player that coaches with binary thinking (like our old coach, Alan Richardson) struggle to know how to develop.

Our loss will be your gain, that is something me and a few other Saints fans who watched him from the start always knew.

Please, half our team is better than Brad Hill!
Saints are paying him 900k a year at the moment to act as a blocker for Max King in their forward 50.

Meanwhile Blake "steak knives" Acres has been tearing it up for us.

Funny GIF

Anyone else notice is he was sitting the whole time during the fan greets with ice on his lower leg ?
Hopefully nothing major

I don't recall ever a player increasing their intensity at the ball and opponents as much as Blake has.

That trait always seems to have been something a player either has or doesn't have.

He's managed to improve it in one preseason.
The justin longmuir retraining camps are top level 👍

Going into the Geelong game I thought our wingers were a weakness. Geelong literally let Acres run free, allowing Tom Stewart to be a spare in defense. It was poor coaching as Acres made several impactful plays. I think Tom Stewart would have had 20 not 40 possessions playing on a player, and been equally effective. It’s odd that Grelong put so little trust in their defenders, always allowing them the spare. I was super worried about Isaac Smith, yet the best winger was Blake Acres by a country mile.

He’s is absolutely solidified in the 22 at the moment.

Interesting Blake produced his best game yet against Geelong.

Because the previous 2 seasons he has been dropped after the Geelong game for poor outings.

I wonder if JL and the coaching staff reminded Blake of that during the week or Blake himself wanted to right the wrongs from his previous encounters against the cats.

I'm not as big on Acres year as everyone else, I think he's been better without being excellent. The same deficiencies seem to be there but he is working hard to be a contributor. His WC game is the only one I'd class as very good personally.
What do you think Snuff, one out of the box or the hype train has arrived?

I think one of the biggest knocks on Acres going into this year was that he was soft especially given he's a great size for a mid.

He's definitely been good from what I've seen, doing little things to show some toughness this year.

He always knew how to find the ball, and whilst yes, he still had some things to work on, has been a very solid player this year contributing to our awesome start
