Didn't realise he was pick 10 in the 2005 draft. At some stage they thought this kid had real potential. Change of environment can hopefully bring out the best in this kid. Maybe the next Tom Harley? fingers crossed.

with picks 5 picks + drum

we need to delist 6

harley
tenace
DJ
Egan
...
...

i could be wrong but i think we still only have to delist a minimum three players, according to the picks we want to use. so, if we delist 4 then we use our first 4 picks as they stand at the end of trade week.

like when we traded steven king for a pick we didn't even use.

i'd be surprised if we delist more than 5.

Good trade for you guys. Has a lot of potential, good size, good disposal and a new environment might make him more motivated.

good luck Marcus.

Lonergan got a new contract last IIRC ,so he stays.

To be traded for Smith or used? Im not sure but Im not totally surprised with a heap of lower picks. When other think thin , Wells thinks opportunity. The thing is just how late will ones third pick be next year with GC picks in the system. They might figure a 40 something this year is like a R2 pick next year , I suspect the plan will be to only have two picks next year and upgrade a Rookie.

So this year.
Donohue, Egan , Djohnson , Harley , Tenace and probably Wojo gone
(Maybe offer to Re-Rookie Donohue if he is not picked up by someone else)

As for Drum its a risk but worth it. Pick 40 something for a 191cm Haley/Milburn replacement. Some think he will take a while but just how much better do you think he is going to look with Scarlet and Enright and Mackie etc around him. Just like Harley, Sanderson , Sholl , McGrath we have a history of 2nd chance champion backmen , lets hope we just got another one.

reading the way he plays it wouldn't surprise me if drum is looked at as a longer-term scarlett replacement.

all this though requires him making our best 22. which at this stage he's a fair way off

From what i gathered from the other thread about him he is similar to Harry Taylor right?

Will be interesting to see how he plays. Will make it more difficult for Gillies but hopefully competition to get into the side will be good for both of them. Lets just hope we can get him to stay injury free.

No I think he's much more of a Milburn utility type. Not terribly quick, but solid footy brain and uses the ball well.

Hmm i don't know... The fact that Drum has more experience may get him a spot before Gillies. Although neither will get a permanent spot next year unless we have a season ending injury.

pretty obvious that they're trying to create a succession plan for Scarlett, Harley and Milburn with Gillies, Drum and maybe Smith. Don't know where that leaves Laidler, unless they're going to continue to develop him. I'd think that we still need another genuine tall, not sure if McKenna will be that player.
