He probably won't, I don't think it really matters either. Who cares if he gets one as long as he's performing on field?
Wonder if it’s because he’s ineligible to win it because of his suspension that they aren’t bothering to nominate him, no bookies market whereas a couple of WC fans may plonk bets on Hewitt at 50:1

The only logical explanations I've seen involve their age difference or that him being suspended has impacted his ability to get nominated.

I suspect the real reason is the AFL's equalization policy of trying to appease the most supporters as possible and not worrying about the integrity issue of such things.

I think a rising star nomination is a very handy thing for a young player to have on his CV. The concept is great but as per normal it's very pro Victorian and rather compromised by the AFL cutting a few corners to get the desired outcome on occasions.

The media are all over the place with it too. Earlier in the season Jai Culley was described as "rising star winner," Seriously, if the media don't recognise difference between nominee and winner that says it all. Mind you it was the Worst Australian that came out with that little gem.

I agree , Neither MJ or Hewitt are a chance of taking it out anyway, But his game was better than Hewitts in my opinion.
Johnsons game was better than Hewitt's on nearly every metric;

Johnson
1 goal 1 behind
21 Disposals @ 67% efficiency
9 marks
5 tackles
564 Metres gained

Hewitt
0 goals 0 behinds
20 Disposals @ 60% efficiency
3 marks
3 tackles
67 Metres gained

Seriously, how do you have 20 disposals for 67m gained, must have been a lot of backwards handball in there.

Suspension is not an issue.

In the later rounds, they tend to nominate players for their season, rather than individual games.

It's Sheezel's to lose.

Johnno should add his ongoing snub to the pile of motivation to get frighteningly huge and wreak vengeance on the world.

Yep,
And never let Hewett get a clean touch in a derby for the rest of his career.

Brayshaw never got one
Sean Darcy as well.

It's a BS award tbh. Convinced they have it to Hewett to slightly mask how ****ed West Coast actually are.

Three Rising Star nominations sounds okay. Being top eight in the league for age but one of the worst sides ever needs some masking especially for such a big club.

Yep I was being generous , Watching the game I thought Hewitts disposal was pretty iffy.67 mtrs gained from 20 disposals ? Was he kicking backwards most of the time?

Pretty sure most would take Lewis Taylor over post first season Rhys Palmer tbh.
I would argue Lewis was the least talented of the parade of undistinguished rising star winners in that 10 year stretch from 2004 to 2014. Before and since the average player winners were the exception rather than the rule. Palmer was limited by injury and temperament* as much as abililty.

*Polite way of saying he's a complete donut.

A lot of guys who who have had great careers have never been nominated . Even some fairly average players have won Jayden Stephenson and Rhys Palmer say hi.(Sorry should have been worded turned out pretty average)
My favourite was Lewis Taylor winning over Bontempelli.. yikes. Retired by 2022.

To be fair Rhys Palmer won in 2008 over Cyril Rioli. He did have a ridiculous year to then do ACL a year later.

Even some bad players have won...remember Lewis Taylor winning over Bontempelli? :embarrassedv1:
I hope some good ones as well. We have 3 of the last 10 winners in our team.
