Universal Love Welcome to Freo- Josh Treacy

Josh is a great asset to have, so happy we’ve locked him in.

I’d love to see him in a negator role later this year, sort of like what we did with Logue last year. Get him to take Darcy Moore and Harris Andrews out of the game. Practice body work and positioning against the league’s best.

Treacy has always been a beautiful set shot too, at the lower level. But he’s not the first youngster to be affected by nerves at the top level. Neither of the King boys did very well at set shots when they first started but both have settled nicely.
On the whole I would list a long, accurate set shot under the plus column for Josh.
I also think that playing ruck has added to the fatigue issue for Treacy in recent games.

Eh, would have made him work for it. He's been very ordinary this year. Personally I would have him bottom 10 in the squad and close to delisting but that's just me. He doesn't provide goals, doesn't provide link up play. Not sure what he brings to the team
I'm glad that's just you then haha. Treacy's become my fave player on the list. He's got the tools and more application than most players on field. His 'ordinary' footy is pretty darn good just cause of his work rate.

"fair" Is a bit subjective here. To what end is the question. I mean you could compare all second-year players to Nick Daicos, but do you question their development if they don't compare favourably.
Spot on. What's that phrase? Um... Ahhhhh......

Progress isn't linear.

;)

And what was tabs doing as a 20 year old?
Treacy hasn’t put it all together yet but has shown glimpses at afl level and shown decent ability and form in the wafl
It's night and day with Treacy and Tabs. 28 yr old Treacy would wipe the floor with 28 yr old Tabs (sorry dude).

The iq difference is huge and we've been happy enough to settle for Tabs being the main man up til now (wrongly, in my opinion).

I hope you're right, 27 year old Tabs finished 5th in the coleman and was in the AA squad...

Treacy is a work in progress as is typical of KPPs at his age, but he is a pretty ideal contrast to Amiss and could make an excellent pairing. Throw in Jackson and it is a juicy and dangerous mix.

I really like that they are running him for short stints in the ruck. Nourishes his already healthy combative instincts. A pugilistic, forward predator? Yes please.

Individual goal tallies are only part of a forward line's story. Our structure forward has been deficient for a long time, but it is showing some shape. At times you still have to squint and stare into the murky depths, but you can see the pillars emerging. With Amiss, Jackson and Treacy we may have Orion's Belt taking form.

There has been many, maaaany, time just this season where Josh has sacrificed his own attack on the ball to protect the space for a team mate in a vulnerable position who took the mark and had the set shot instead.

Most famous would be the Jackson crumb to quick kick towards goal, marked by Brayshaw. Treacy was impeding his opponent the whole way, Andy was going to be cleaned up. Instead he took it uncontested and uninjured.

A key forward not long ago would have cleaned up his own team mate to contest the mark himself, probably take it, then tell his team mate to get out of the way as he crawls to the side.

When our mids fire we kick over 100 points a game.

Josh is also one of the only players in the team that actually sheperds after drawing a defender and disposing. Sadly it's a skill that few in the side possess. He is actually a very good footballer.

I am not sure just how much people actually watch his game, but last weekend, he was responsible for two of our first three goals in the second quarter. His forcing the ball to ground I think for goals one and three were superb.
His work last week made our small forward play better because of his work. It was ,in my opinion, the best that our small forwards have worked as a unit all year.
He is a thinking forward that crashes packs and forces the ball to ground.
He will give us plenty of good games into the future.

He should tag Harris Andrews on Sunday to deny that intercept mark

I sure noticed & commented in the match thread. He was lining up a path for the small forwards then destroying the ball in their path. Really, really clever use of his strength & power in the pack.

If you watch the replays closely he doesn't just crash packs he actually tries to direct the ball into the path of the smalls. He's a very good footballer and very under-rated.

It's amazing what a great team player he is. As you rightly point out he is very good at getting the ball to ground for the small forwards if he can't mark it.

The AFL commentators seem to focus only on his possessions and goal but rarely acknowledge the sum of all he contributes. Shame really because there is a lot to like about him.

Happy birthday young man.

Josh also had another moment of protecting his team mates in that Schultz mark, after the Wagner intercept. Josh realised in a flash that he wasn't going to get there and made sure his opponent didn't run through Lachie.

He's done that a lot. That's a smart footy brain.

In Kosmo Kramer voice
