Sweet is their pick 43, or even less. Geelong aren’t getting a first round pick for Esava, but port need to get a second rounder from somewhere.
The question there remains how they get pick 24-27 for Esava. Hawks 29 might come into play. But Ben McKay compo pushes that out to 30 and I don’t reckon that will get Geelong interested.

Looks like mandatory 3 year contracts for first rounders are coming in

Eagles would have to take Reid now

Do the players get screwed in this though? Our first rounders have generally been on a nice 3rd year contract due to gc changing the landscape, are players now gonna get that 3rd year contract? Might only be a slight increase
A third year player selected in the top 10 of the ND routinely earns $450k.
Serong would have signed an extension in year one for his third year at $500k and according to the HS he’s earning $650-750k in year 4 this year.
So yeah you are correct - there ain’t no way top players are going to accept rookie wages 3 years in and why should they.
Take Nick Daicos - imagine him earning $110k and match payments next year in year 3 of his rookie deal next season? Not a hope!

They could dish out bonuses at the end of the year as far as I know as long as they are under the salary cap. Haven't heard if that has been outlawed

Yeah, young guns will sign new contracts adding Y4 and beefing up Y2-3 straight away.
Does work well for WC though and Reid, either they get a gun on minimum wage for 3 years, or he extends to Y4 early and any request to be traded home to vic will be under contract and they can request a king’s ransom from the lucky vic club willing to pay for him.

I would prefer they get Reid, that way Curtin will go over east and we can trade for him in a few years. Reid will be a very good player but I am not convinced he will be a game winner. Duursma on the other hand...

I love your posts on here Jako - I notice you are very definitive on how draft prospects will turn out. Definitely admire your convictions but gosh, the list of posters on BF over the years that have been made look silly by nailing their colours to different kids mast, either positively or negatively pre draft, is enough to fill Optus stadium I reckon 😂

For example, I read at the weekend that west coast fans were supposedly melting on 2021 draft night because they were into Wanganeen Milera. They didn’t want him. He’d go top 5 in a redraft tomorrow I’d say.

You can't alter year 2 as it stands (Daicos got paid base contract this year, Sheezel will next year)

Thats where it gets interesting, if they do bring in 3 year contracts then will the same rules apply to now with 2 years? you'd think not as then players would rather be taken in the second round lol

Of course Dockeroo, I'm just a big footy nuffie like the rest of them. There are only a few people who are in a position to make an informed decision and I am definitely not one of them 😂 I think I am somewhat decent at identifying talent but as you, say these things are very hard to predict.

This is so much more interesting than talking about Henry

I mean who really gives a s**t

History shows we will probably get rorted in the trade but its just another bump in the most corrugated road in Australia that is the Dockers First Premiership

Yeah I get copped a fair bit on trade scenarios.

But we would be lucky to get a pick 30-35 for Liam henry.

That’s because you are highly pessimistic. F2 will be minimum for Henry I recon or a lowish 2nd this draft. For a young player, showing a higher ceiling is all that is required and Henry finally did it this year.

There is no threat of PSD to give the Saints leverage, it’s like he’s contracted as dealing is the only way for them to get him.

Well we picked Cox and Darcy in the thirties, etc, so we should take it and
Turn it into something.
WA/SA having bad championships, doesn’t mean individuals were bad.
It’s like when Hill left, swings and roundabouts.
We will probably be better off long term.
It’s keeping players that is the issue.

Hoping Dylan Stephens gets done first and it's over the top as Henry is a better player.

Your trade scenarios are frustrating and pessimistic because you like it being your schtick though so whatever

If we can't do a deal with St's and he refuses to go to any club that we can do a deal with he can probably go into the draft. Taylor would know.
