I’m not on board with all these posts about him playing next year, our side and particularly our forward line where some suggest he will play is stacked.

It’s not stacked for manic tackling pressure. He will play half a dozen games at the very least.

Has electric Cyril speed as well, and that bigger frame. But Brad knew his way around contests when the bodies were cracking in, no doubt. Always found a way to hip escape from tackling pressure.

I'll tell you a skill that Brad had, he could go from lying flat on his stomach on the ground in a pack getting a ground ball to suddenly be standing upright with the ball bursting away on one of his trademark 10m runs (and long 50m bomb down the wing). I've never seen a player who could go from being ground level to upright so quickly.

I used to love Sewell play, he was an absolute warrior and underrated throughout his career IMHO.

IMO his most important immediate contribution will be how battle hardened he will be making all the other mids by being part of same training group.

The skill levels of all the other mids is going to go up as they figure out a way to deal with this tackling pressure in training drills. As group we will get better and then he will have to figure out a way to still dominate and push his way in.

The likes of Hustwaite, Butler will sink or learn to swim not to mention our other core mid group & key young mid talents like Frenchie & Ward.

Maybe not next year but with Punky and Gunners likely on their last legs a spot (or two) in the forward line is going to be open very shortly.

More likely to see a Sicily, Hardwick, Battle or Serong type replace Gunston. If Breust is fully fit next season he somehow has to fit back into the 22 given he was almost permanent sub

He's an exciting talent. But his kicking needs a lot of work, and keep in mind he'd be up against seasoned bigger bodies in the AFL compared to Coates League level. It will be harder for him to monster them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like he didn't play too much footy this season?

Personally I think he'd only get games next season if we have a torrid run with injuries to our small forwards, or maybe a game at the end of the season to give him a taste.

We do tend to play different teams from week to week. There is such a thing as trying to exploit the opposition with different players being selected that might just make us superior in a specific role.

I wouldn't want to see him as sub next year. I'd prefer only Breust and Gunston as sub where possible. Anyone not in the 22 should be playing full games at BHH to work on their weaknesses.

If I was a betting man, I'd gamble that'd he'd play 10 games + at a minimum.

He's got the attributes and the physical build. He doesn't necessarily need to 'develop' in the VFL, other than cleaning up his disposal by foot.

Would be the perfect sub option as a high impact player, even though I want to see the sub rule abolished.

hope the kid goes well, but to be honest, if he's getting a game next year, Hawks aren't going so well.
his role is the one most stacked on the list, and they are all good pressure forwards.
Breust, Ginnivan, Macdonald, Moore, Watson, Butler, Hardwick, Maginness, etc are a pretty formidable small forward group.
Plus our midfield now nice and deep, with guys like HH Mackenzie and Ward banging down the door next year.
Next year at VFL level and see how he develops. Zero expectations at this stage, he's not joining the 2020 list, he arrives at the 2025 Hawks.

Looks like he has similar closing speed to The Wizard but he hits a lot harder due to his size. I haven’t seen many underage kids tackle with that level of ferocity before (any?)

As previously mentioned I am also not a fan of the sub rule (in fact I hate it) but he looks well suited to coming on as a substitute to wreck havoc in the middle / up forward. Reckon he could play a few games next year if his fitness is up to standard.

Bloody unit for an 18 year old as well!

if you want an impact player in the middle, Watson has played about 5 seconds in there, and grabbed the ball in the puoring rain, exploded out of the middle and laced it 45m onto Breust's chest (he was so surprised he dropped it lol)

Long time between now and round 1.

But when the pressure is on and we have a Beast with elite closing speed and tackling pressure, he's every chance of taking Punky's spot early on if the other boys are handling things from a goal kicking perspective.

I can't work out how to get Punky a spot in the 25, let alone Anderson!

Re- Cody in our best 23, it's more about injuries through the midfield and forward line that will enable him to get a senior gig. His form at BH will definitely be taken into consideration to see if he can get ahead of Finn, Harry or CJ types. Also, I don't think Sam is going to wait for a player to find form for number of weeks, he'll be brutal once that uncomfortable moment comes where he has to make a tough call on a senior Mid or frwd who isn't quite performing at the level expected. So, yea, let's hope that Cody finds it difficult to break in all the while showing awesome form at BH but no one's giving up their spot or injured.
