Too many classics in that Season 6, 7 & 8 era.

I'm quite partial to this one:

The Nash move into the midfield was when I jumped on the Sammy bandwagon and when Clarko played him forward again …it was the start of the end for me with Clarko
100% Mitchell saved his career by not being stubborn like Clarko and seeing something in Nash that admittedly many of us didn't and played him in a position he was much more suited too. A real sliding door moment.

It's stuff like this why I back Mitchell all the way when he sets his sights on an opposition player to bring into the club. He's not just proving to be fantastic coach, but a masterful talent scout/recruiter all in one.

Well done Nash, can't wait to see your name etched into history as a Hawthorn premiership player hopefully not too far into the future.

lols
so he had a "verbal agreement" (which isn't a signature as far as I can tell) six/seven weeks ago, but, in his own words, made up his mind in the last few days!!!
there you go!!!
didn't realise there were so many geniuses on this chat!!!
As I said, he should have just looked over on here and he would not have to have made the choice at all, he'd already signed!!! hehehe
No wonder you're on ignore.

I'll literally fight you over this. Homer The Vigilante is all-time #1.

Right series I’ll grant you that - but a few episodes before it ‘The Last Temptation of Homer’ is the GOAT.

Interesting to note it was Mark McKenzie who identified Nash and got him over back in 2014. I hope we have McKenzie signed up well past 2029.
How funny was it to hear that Nash Snr hung the phone up on Sleepy Mark thinking it was a prank call. No wonder the guy always looks tired when he's up all night scouring the globe for talent.

Great news! For those wondering whether if there was any serious interest in him, Dee's, bluuz and pies had a nibble but with the belief he wasn't going to leave anyway.
I got told the Swans made an inquiry too. With all the worrying about a contract renewal going on in here I didn't want to mention it 😂

Another great story at the club. A 5 year contract is a big deal and other clubs have been asking the question. Nash has come a long way since Mitchell was appointed coach. He was always a great athlete but I was never sure if he was going to make it. Now a critical member of the team. Congrats.

Even in the articles from reporters about interest in Nash, if you read beyond the headline it was always "there is a belief he's staying at the Hawks". They just need stuff to talk about, and don't get it twisted there was genuine interest - Geelong were getting Mullin and O'Connor to put the work in when the Irish boys do their get togethers. They tried hard. Never in doubt, though.

Glad he’s signed on but 5 years seems excessive.

Without getting into what other clubs offered him, because I don’t really have any idea about that…

…he’s a 6"6 midfielder who does all of the team things so we win the contested ball as a collective midfield unit, imposes physicality on the contest, and sometimes gives a chop out in the ruck. They don’t exactly grow on trees.

Could argue the bash and crash game may take its toll, but Sewell played until 30-31, and Nash doesn’t exactly play as recklessly either. Others in that hardball position play for longer. Nash is also bigger than him, which I believe will be a good thing for his durability for a couple of reasons.

5 years seems about right to me.

EDIT: As a better example, Cripps (who is a similar height and also plays on the ball) is 3 years older than Nash.

If other clubs are offering 6 years, he would be going elsewhere if we didn't at least offer 5
I don't think he would have gone elsewhere if we offered less, but I think we'd have been more than happy to reward him for his development with 5 years anyway. Would have been average by us to lowball him.

Don't have any issue in a contract that sees him through to his 31st birthday.

Not to mention keeps him out of Tassie’s grasp if they get a similar OOC player grab deal that GC/GWS did.
