Ben King and Jackson Macrae are pretty good

Looking back, it really is a dumpster pick.

Petrevski-Seton, Aaron Francis, Jaydn Stephenson, Caleb Marchbank, Reece Conca, Matthew Scharenberg (injuries for him rather than talent). Its pretty grim.

Adelaide probably want to avoid pick 6 as well after taking McAsey and Rachele.

Bailey Humphrey from 2022 looks like he'll be great, but outside of him, Wingard and King ... yikes

I remember one his marks in his first game (may have been his first ever mark) on the 50 metre line with opponent behind him. He just sort of crashed in and took a spectacular mark - which the umpire deemed illegal and awarded a free kick against. To this day I have no clue why it wasn't paid, maybe the umpire deemed it an excessively aggressive mark!

Anyway, the excitement he generated in this tiny snapshot was immense. Such a shame it didn't continue on. I held out hope for years (and thought maybe the tank issues were undiagnosed long covid). Thanks for your efforts Denver, I hope you make it to another club and do well such that we regret not extending your stay at the Hawks.

According to AFL media Carlton and West coast are considering DGB.

Good luck young man, you seem like good guy whoms DNA is just not clicking with training and game requirements.

Scrimshaw was never delisted. He was homesick and wanted to return to Victoria.
We benefitted from Gold Coast Crazy Sale trading (and maybe a bit of sympathy on their part)

He cost us about a 7 pick slide from pick 52 to 59 or so (hard to be precise with all the pick swaps)...our third round for Scrim and their 4th round.

Unbelievable deal.

I still can't get my head around how Gold Coast let Jack go so cheap.

I would have thought that even just watching him at training they could tell he was a talent.

Still who are we to complain!

It won’t. He was out of his depth even at VFL level. The club got this decision right.
I agree Phillips looks much more likely to make it than DGB.

If he wasn't a top ten pick I doubt any other club would even be considering him right now but we shall see.

Maybe a change of scene might make a difference, sometimes that works?

This is the worst draft year in the history of the AFL. There is no one after Ugle-Hagen and Gulden who 4 years on have shown anything

Max Holmes goes alright.

I suppose you only have to go back 18-24 months to see his work ethic wasn't up to scratch.

There's a lot of players where the penny just doesn't drop.

I reckon headspace, mindset, and ultimately confidence, is the key factor in a lot of situations. The difference a player can look when something is, or isn't, bothering them is night and day.

Perhaps DGB just needs that change of environment; maybe find himself in a Balinese bamboo hut, waterfall adjacent?

That and elite strength and conditioning to suit the desired sport

Id argue that the narrative around Jack is a bit overblown. Yes I agree that he has had a career best year and he definitely has a harder edge but he was still very much an AFL standard player from the very first game he played for the club.

I remember watching him play in 2019 and even then you could see he was super talented. He always had some serious offensive weapons with his intercept marking, precise kicking and general reading of the play were always top notch.

Yes he had to work on his defensive side of his game and that probably took a while longer than expected but still it was a crazy trade from Gold Coast to have valued him so lowly. Players with his kind of natural ability are not easy to find.

Someone actually used a good analogy the other day - Gold Coast are trading Cryptocurrency whilst the rest of the competition are using Dollars.
