Hope he now has confidence to always go for his contested marks.
Still don't think he's best 23 with a fully fit squad, but gut running midfielders with big bodies who can take marks inside both attacking and D50 aren't the easiest thing to find either.

Squads win flags. There will be a lot of tough games next year, and no doubt more injuries. Definitely needs another year or two. I'd keep him over Harry going forward, as well as Harry played on that wing.
Agree 100 percent.
The fact that he's improving noticeably still is the reason we must hold onto him.
His running power and physicality doesn't grow on trees, and there's more ability there to tap.
Will wind up a solid B-grade inside mid with running ability long term.

Essendon asking the question of Finn as per the AFL website.
Contracted for next year, spent a lot of time in the VFL this year though. I could see him being lured away with a 3-4 year deal. Would be a shame to lose such a passionate Hawks man, hopefully playing in both finals is enough for him to hang around until at least the end of 2025.
There's so much potential there, his foot skills are slowly improving and honestly he ticks just about every other box. Not to mention he gives us that versatility/option to swing him into a shut down role if someone gets off the leash badly.
I'd love to see him have an absolutely dominant 2025 and sign a 4 year extension with us.
Not sure we'll get that chance though.

From what I understand, Finn Maginness is a lot like me.
He'd rather be homeless, licking out the residue from used tomato sauce squeeze packs in footy stadiums to survive, than have anything to do with Essendon.

He is only one injury (or form loss) away from being best 22. Very impressive elite runner and skills improving.

There’s no rule against that is there?

Worked out well for them last time where they tried to get pay back for overlooking Cyril in the draft by taking Irving Mosquito in the 30's when he was tipped as a rookie prospect.

I'd rather retire and sit next to BT in the ch7 commentary box than take a chance of being signed up by Essendon, Geelong or Sydney!
To be fair to those who did think this, he has evolved significantly as a player, and is now more like his underage self in terms of demonstrated ability.
He can win clearances, kick goals, and link up in space a lot more effectively now than he could in his earlier games.
It's a credit to him, and I believe he's going to get better and better as he's given more time to work on his game.
Does not want for drive and fast twitch muscle fiber, and always was a combative, contested ball winning machine as a junior.
The other stuff just needed some polish - game sense at AFL level and skills. The completed Finn is going to be something else imo. Brad Sewell level handy perhaps, which is no small statement.

Totally agree, but the reality that ALL players when drafted are far off the complete package seems lost on many here.
Particularly those who want to cut or trade players who spend a few weeks at Box Hill learning to do certain things better because “they’re just not up to the level”
Finn will remain with the Hawks IMHO and will be part of our midfield for the next 5 years. Same with Ward and Mackenzie.
Meanwhile we have cut players (possibly more talented) like Jeka because they aren’t coachable and willing to do what’s needed to improve in order to contribute at the top level.
If you want to build sustained success you start with the right culture and standards. Finn is exactly the type of person / player who drives those standards.
Similar to Moore, Frost, Meek, etc.
Willing to do whatever it takes to get better year upon year.
