Connor Downie was not listed as a NGA in the article so you cannot rely on the accuracy. Then the Scum have 12 listed and West Coast have 16 listed when Brisbane, Collingwood, GCS, GWS, PA and Sydney have nil. Go figure when the article appears on the official AFL web site  .

I am assuming we only have priority over Downie, right. Whereas the other two are just like "work experience" kids. I think we had the same question last year, but just want to confirm.
I’m confidant you are correct. Our likely NGAs in 2020 are Conor Downie and Salele Feagaimalii, and while there may be a few others, I’m pretty sure Wil Parker and Zach Reid are not amongst them.

That said, if I remember correctly, Joel Duckwood trained with Geelong before they selected him in his draft year, and the above article said that last year Brodie Kemp trained with Carlton ... who eventually drafted him. It‘s likely that if the player impresses at these training sessions, the club they are training with are more likely to value them higher ... and so are more likely to take them in the draft.

For what it's worth:
Wil Parker: Height: 180cm, Weight: who cares but: 76kg, Played HB and may move into the midfield: 2019 Averages D: 18.1, M: 4.2, T: 2.7
Zach Reid: Height: 200cm, Weight: who cares but: 77kg, Played FB with stints in the ruck: 2019 Averages D: 11.1, M: 3.9, T: 2.0, HO: 2.4

Weight who cares - thats very politically correct Alite. ;)

its really hard to get a list of NGA's, but from what i could find we have 2019 and future picks still available to us for next years draft

2019 NGA's: Todd Garner, Harold Hood, Tot Jok, Charles Power, Sebastian Reyneke, Marcus Toussaint

2020 onwards:
Connor Downie
Robert Campbell
Thomas Bradshaw

Robert Campbell and Thomas Bradshaw were both 2019 draft eligible. Connor Downie is the only one on that list that is 2020 draft eligible for the first time.

cheers, i had not heard of those guys so assumed they might be 2020, it seems impossible to get any information on NGA players from 2020 onwards, Hawthorn have zero information and neither do the afl site, i guess i'll keep my eyes out for any info on any youngsters that might be aligned to us, i saw on the new Hawks site they had an NGA section, but its empty and had the "out of bounds" sign.

did they nominate though? Think they did

List below of NGA for 2019

Thomas Bradshaw
Robert Campbell
Todd Garner
Harold Hood
Tot Jok
Harrison Pepper
Charles Power
Sebastian Reyneke
Marcus Toussaint
Ben Cardamone
Steve Kapahnke

Thomas Bradshaw is the cousin of Irving Mosquito and moved from Halls Creek in the NT to Gippsland when he was 12. Made the 2017 Laguntas Squad (Indigenous Team) but was not able to make the Gippsland Power team.

Robert Campbell is from the NT and plays for the Big River Hawks. Only small at 172cm but quick. Made the NT under 18 Squad.

Harold Hood is from Lindenow and played in the West Gippsland League. Played a few games for the Gippsland Power as a bottom age player and looked ok. Injured himself (knee I believe) this year and missed a large chunk of football. Went back and played the second half of the year at Lindenow - 4 reserve games for 7 goals and 7 senior games for 10 goals. Couldn’t crack into the strong Gippsland Power team. Hood also made the 2017 Laguntas Squad with Bradshaw.

Marcus Toussaint played a few games for Gippsland Power as a bottom age player and made the AFL Academy Squad for 2019. Really looked like he had something. Not sure what happened but he didn’t make the Gippsland Power Squad for 2019 and ended up back at Inverloch-Kongwak. Played the whole season in the under 18s (18 games) and one game in the reserves. Kicked 10 goals in the under 18s.

Tot Jok is from Pakenham and was tied to the Dandenong Stingrays.

Sebastian Reyeneke is from Park Orchards and was part of the NGA as a multicultural player. Talented athlete who choose Pole Vault over football.

Charles Power was from Mooroolbark in the Eastern Football league and played 16 games in the under 17s in 2017. Made the Eastern Ranges under 16 Squad. He was then listed as Heathmont but I don’t know any more about him after this.

Todd Garner and Harry Pepper seem to be well covered already. The others are all carry over players who were eligible in 2018.

Does this mean we have the option of taking any (or all!) of these players in the 2020 draft with 25% discount? Seems a lot!
Seems like they’re all out of the game now or have been overlooked.

Not sure if this got posted before - it's from the NAB League site from last month after the draft. Eastern Rangers talent manager talking about their best 2020 prospects. Sounds promising! -
Connor Downie is one of the standouts. He represented Australia and Vic Metro this year and had a massive season for us. I probably haven’t seen a more elite worker on and off the track than Connor. He’s a great young man and he’s also part of Hawthorn’s NGA.

This is what was said by Gippsland Coach Rhett McLennan about Pepper -
HARRISON PEPPER (NGA rookie signing to Hawthorn): “Harry’s work ethic is what we were really impressed with this year. His ability to just out-work everyone around him was exceptional. He had some flaws in his game regarding his kicking and his contested-ball technique, but he just worked and worked on it.

“I think Hawthorn will absolutely love what he brings to the club in regards to his professionalism. Couple that with some great agility and speed and don’t be too surprised if he becomes a permanent fixture in the AFL team in a couple of years’ time.”

Being named Eastern Rangers talent manager would have to be a misuse of the title.

??
I don’t follow, is there more to this ?
Probably shouldn't have made the comment in the first place but as I did I'll just keep names out of this.

Look I know that in life that contacts and alignments with people are important to get ahead in this world but at Ranges they take this to a new level. Ive got fingers in pies at two NAB cup teams and an involvement in one myself. Look lets just say that at Rangers and all NAB cup teams that almost all kids can play to a fairly high level so it is clear that those making decisions on talent look to be doing their job, rangers easily have ten to a dozen kids better than those who played that didn't or wouldn't play for them because they knew their fate before hand, One Mooroolbark kid wasn't even the best player at his junior club he got to play most games for Rangers but the Multiple best and fairest winner at his junior club didn't get a look in.

At my NAB cup team they have had one of the worst records in the competition for near on a decade, they also have one of the highest funded programs in the competition via the AFL and yet still only average less than four wins a season in the time that the same Talent manager has been in charge. Last season I got to witness first hand how many kids with clear talent were cast aside for clearly inferior players and the penny dropped.

Talent managers are some of the most compromised people within the NAB-AFL system, if they are made of stern stuff and hold their ground they might get to keep their job should their ability to select the right cattle be successful its hard to replace them but as the ones I have witnessed have shown me they can be highly compromised. If I had the record as the fella in my zone has I would be looking for a new job.

Sorry I can't be more informative or a better conveyor of information.

Thanks for the insight, junior pathways in elite sports are indeed heavily muffed regardless of the sport.
My son was wanted at a young age by the Sporting KC Academy (MLS team here in the USA), but as soon as we and the rest of his mates left one of their feeder teams for a french professional coach recently retired from Ligue 1, the head of the academy called an urgent meeting of all the parents to tell them we were likely compromising the chances of our kids getting future consideration.
Our team was one for the ages, played the top youth league and a year up, traveled the country, many of the kids were absolute studs.
Funnily enough, it just convinced us further that we were making the right choice leaving en masse for proper pro coaching. Four of the 12 ended up getting opportunities at Sporting because in the end they need the best coming through to be competitive against the other pro academies, while our Number 9 is at a French Ligue 1 academy.

But it was incredible to see how money and the need to own the pathway was more important than the actual best progression path for each individual player.
Kind of glad my kid got out, I was pretty burnt out just trying to navigate how to get him the right opportunities and it's an absolutely ruthless trade.

Heard similar things about Eastern Ranges. Very talented local players overlooked in favor of less talented coaches kids / best mates / family connections etc.
It's a very subjective science.

That happens a bit in junior footy
Teams are usually coached by players dads or the dads involve themselves enough.

I know that some, if not all, WAFL clubs tell the parents of Colts players to stay well away from the playing group & let the coaches do their job.
im pretty sure Suma has the same policy with the WA U18’s

Happens all the time, junior club, representative club - wherever. I remember a year where in my local league, the U18 B&F for the club was won by the obvious best player, and the league B&F was won by a player from the same team who didn't even come top 5. The league B&F winner's dad was heavily involved in the league itself.

As someone who had parents that were hesitant to even give their children votes in the juniors for fear of looking like they were playing favourites, I don't quite understand why parents get this way about their children - it does them no favours. It definitely didn't do much for Eastern Ranges who had a shocking draft result.

I went through the ranges system, all be it awhile ago, big names will always get the first gig as they are usually looked at more by clubs, but they still have to be decent players to hold their spot. There’s always guys that will slip through the cracks, we let go a couple of guys who went on to play afl or get drafted (Pederson, rose and a few others). But generally most the blokes I played with deserved their spots. There’s a big difference between dominating club footy and playing in an elite comp. you need to be able to play multiple positions to a high quality. There’s only 5 or so mid spots so not everyone can play there. They are also supposed to pick guys that are more “draft-able” than just the best players, which it seems the ranges went against this year. No doubt they wouldn’t be happy at all with their season. We were always told that getting kids drafted was the first priority and winning games was secondary.
