Unfortunately (or fortunately) due to the clubs success expectations have been set, I think most just want to see the club have sustained competitiveness. Look at the Spurs in the NBA, a league with a heavily sanctioned salary cap and rules and they have managed 20 years of sustained success fighting at the top end. No-one can expect flags each year, no-one expects prelims but I think just being highly competitive is the key.

Anyway, I agree, we can be fickle and a demanding lot but that's better than being complacent.

If there is one adjective that is not a trait of mine, it is complacent, and it probably is not a fair description of many Hawk supporters. I just find it difficult to understand how supporters, of the most successful club and coach, since the competition became national, can be so critical, of club and personnel who have delivered so much.

You have quoted the Spurs in the NBA as an example of a team who have maintained success over a 20 year period. I don't follow the NBA, so I can't comment except to say they would be the exception, not the standard. Can you name a club that has delivered more than Hawthorn in your lifetime, tige?

Just have a little patience mate, and I am sure you will get just rewards, fron The Greatest Club of all.

It's that we've seen that if you live in past glory, you won't achieve much in the future and present.

Past glory does not guarantee future success.

Look at Richmond and now Brisbane.

Overseas, you have examples like Liverpool FC and Arsenal.

What made us so successful recently was how ruthless we were against the opposition. We need to do that same internally when the time comes. Moving on Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis were the start of this.

Moving on Mitchell AND Lewis was the start of ruthless, with a dash of stoopid thrown in.

Hopefully JOM is worth it and back on the track soon.

I don't expect flags every year, not even close to that, however what I am seeing is a culture shift in our approach to footy. We have a softened underbelly, we roll over and white flag it when it get's hard, that's the problem and that is not our spirit.

Wasn't that what was happening when we were building our young list up for that successful assault on the 2008 premiership. From memory we had a few 100 point losses then, albeit with some very, very good early draft picks in the team, which due to our threepeat we have not been able to access.

I can't accept the way we rolled over against the pies, but believe we have to be a little patient. Clarko said that Jaeger was coming along, but he probably won't be ready to return before the bye.

We need to offer Burton a similar amount as Jaeger, and tie him up on a lengthy contract, and also hope with we can get someone special from our academy or f/s selections, and then attack the 2018 draft.

Clarko would have long term plans for our club, so I have listed a few more flags on my bucket list.

Will be lucky to play again this year.. by round 13, the side will be 4-8...no point risking him after

So the article confirms what has consistently been suggested that he will likely be back after the bye round, not before, great work Marc McGowan.

I disagree with not playing him again this year, regardless of our ladder position, I think for confidence and match fitness he absolutely needs to be played as soon as he is ready.

He has already been out for a couple of years; he needs to get back into the routine of playing consistent A grade football. While another solid pre-season will also be beneficial, it won’t compare to the real thing.

None of that is new information. We've already been told he won't be back before the bye which happens to be in 3 weeks so it's not like anyone should be shocked.

Just watched that episode. Far out - the first half hour is very Eraserhead. I bloody love it

They had time to make a TV show about JOM?!... seriously... where is the where is he at thread.... ;)

Jaeger is a watch.

Fact.

Can you please stop breaking the internet?.... but this does put a twist in this whole case....
f*** it crack open the scooby snacks...

edit: bold..... that was an accident.... or was it?

Surprise surprise.

"conditioning block"
"bone bruising"
"unrelated to pre-existing injury"

One thing that is assured, some members of the forum will treat any attempt to look at the JOM trade dispassionately without Hawthorn-blinkers as an assault on the club itself, which of course it isn't. Not our fault that some of us are allergic to bullshit & can sniff it a mile away.

Bloody helll!!! it would be extremely detrimental to Jaeger's development if he doesn't play again this year. Just have a look at Rough, Watson & Stanton if you need confirmation of how debilitating extended leave can be. Jaeger has pretty much had double their lay off.

Jaeger needs to get match hardened to be able to compete again at the highest level. In the handful of games he has played with the club he has shown nothing to suggest that he will rediscover the explosiveness he once had, & that's undoubtedly what we all want to see.

I fear that Jaeger may become another Nathan Brown or Daisy Thomas (post injury) if he doesn't get a good run at it. The longer he misses, the rustier he gets & the greater the chance of being left behind.

As opposed to the one eyed supporters venting because he's not out on the park, Jaeger being the next unfulfilled talent would be the real tragedy if it ever were to eventuate.

2017 was never the plan for JOM, it's all about 2019 and beyond :drunk::drunk:

It all comes down to O'meras acceleration and power, if he gets that back we have a bonafide star make no mistake about it. He has an enormous amount of ability to navigate through traffic and be damaging as an attacking mid, he also runs 2 ways which is a must in todays game. We need him as the explosive Jags, that's what we need, otherwise, we effectively a very very expensive Liam Shiels.

I concur, unfulfilled talent/potential is devastating especially for the individual involved. Hate seeing it happen.

Some members of the forum will prefer to make their assessment of the JOM trade when there is sufficient evidence to do so. Some other members seem to think that they have infinite wisdom and want to be seen as internet news breakers.

I sincerely hope your sex life isn't as premature as your assessment of the success of the JOM trade.

Thank god we've got you and tige and others to set us dolts straight, coz we'd be Lemming like watching in transfixed oblivion for the next 10 years as the club sold us a never ending trail of deceit.
Truly, thank you for your humble insights.
