I know highlights are just that, highlights, but his package has speccies, eye watering bursts of speed, goals clearing 50+ meters with ease and some extremely well timed field kicks to advantage. There seems to be a lot to work with here.

Has full forward written all over him and a really good one! Allows Chol to roam around instead of jumping into packs and dear to play third tall. This all, off course, with no Lewis available. But having four kpf to pick from really helps Sam's hand going frwd.
Maybe to start, but he can push up the field and even help out in defence.
I am excited by this pick.
He could change a lot about our list management if he shows a bit this season..

If he’s 197cm ……. with those muscly thighs the kid is pushing 100kg! That newest footage shows he has some nous, awareness and quick decision making where he quickly moves it onto teammates in a better position. And against men he pushes/out bodies opponents quite easily showing plenty of strength. And the kick wowee could see some beauties from out side 50! If he’s on the plane today I say bring him in 😂

Very nice highlights. Has good tools and plenty to work with.

What’s his athleticism / fitness like? Or was it production / consistency that has held him back? On raw tools he looks a good choice

Can you tell us more about his journey, playing style, pros/cons of his game?
Is he any good overhead, in a pack mark etc?
Always played as a forward; very strong set of hands, outstanding field kick, very accurate set shot and kicks a long, long way. Very dedicated, not a drinker, not a partyer, will be no issues off field. As of about 18 months ago, hadn't touched fast food for about 3 years. Pretty good effort for a teenage boy. Excels over a range of sports, has an absolute canon of an arm, played a bit of cricket and baseball.
Negatives and perhaps why he hasn't previously been drafted, hasn't really taken a game from colts and upwards by the scruff of the neck and really asserted himself. No big 6 goal plus games. Contested part of his game perhaps lacks, very good when he has space, lacks a bit of mongrol and willingness to use his size to bust packs. A lot to work with, hope he does well, has worked extremely hard to give himself a chance.

Thanks for the insight.

Hope he can find some mongrel. He’ll get plenty of opportunity at Box Hill to develop further.

Any interviews with him doing the rounds since he’s been drafted tonight ?? Always interested to see whether the interstaters are happy to come to the club .
Given how hard he's worked to get on an AFL list, I'd expect him to be pretty thrilled to come.

Sounds like max ramsden v2 . The physical aspect is what is holding him back too

I guess that's what we don't see in the highlights, certainly didn't seem like he lacked mongrel.

It's arguably one of the most important things a key forward can have. Self confidence, swagger, mongrel. The fact that he's willing to have a ping from 50 (and hits them) is a good start.

will be interesting to see how he goes. IMO, the VFL is a step up from the WAFL, and the AFL three steps above the VFL.
With Lewis' future now in reasonable doubt, I think drafting a key forward was a smart move. Bit of a hail mary, but you never know.

Hahahaha
One for the anals of big footy!

someone said contested marking ....I didn't see it in his highlights package ????

Contested marks aren't always one-on-one battles of strength.

The two speccy's and the one where he pushed the opponent in the chest are all considered contested marks.

For clarity, when Jai fends off an opponent and subsequently gives a 1 metre handball under no direct pressure, that also counts as a contested disposal.
