I think he is a fair way off defensively but I guess playing him against Norf who are the closest thing to a VFL side as West Coke might be a lower risk way to debut him.

12 disposals - 8 marks - 3 tackles - 1 goal - 1 behind

Ryan didn’t show any signs of being hampered by the ankle injury he sustained during training last week. I want to see what he can add to the forward mix at AFL level potentially as the second key forward.

VFL - Round 18

11 disposals - 5 marks - 2 tackles - 2 goals - 1 behind

Surely the coaching staff have to reward his good form? Ryan has had more scoring shots than any key forward in the VFL the last four weeks!

Give him 6 weeks at it with Lewis. He’s 25, we should get a read by the end of season if we need to slap our balls on the table for a Ricardi or Georgiades. If he looks a player then maybe we don’t have to draft a Key forward early either. But as it stands I think we need to reach for Caddy,
Lewis wingman is our greatest need.

Brandon Ryan (2 goals, 11 disposals, 5 marks)

"Brandon does some freakish things - we're very lucky to have him as part of our program and part of the club. He is projecting really nicely. He was able to spend a little bit more time in the ruck this week, just around the ground which is great to see. He'll continue to work on that side of his game and that craft on how to add other elements to his game. He is very dangerous when he is forward - he had five score involvements and kicked two goals - so it was a great return for him. There were some good lessons learnt too after spending some time in the ruck."

Go well Brandon!

Can’t wait to see how he builds his body after an AFL Preseason. Metabolism for most blokes slows down a lot around this age so potentially could put on significant mass in a short period of time. Very raw but a lot to work with.

Was looking around the Kangas VFL threads from when he was there and came across a quite similar in spirit article about how he was originally plucked from Geelong ammos to North VFL. Just something to compare to now it's taken him 5 years to now finally get on an AFL list .

Something a bit unique about the way Brandon looks and plays.

One of the most different kicking actions I have ever seen but seems to nail his shots on goal.

Also he must have an 8ft wingspan, crazy long arms (which is actually a big advantage for a forward).

Will watch his debut with great interest. If he puts in a reasonable performance he will probably have a decent 5 game run at making that second tall forward spot his own.

He’s averaging 4 (3.8) shots a game which is good going and promising.

The best part about his game as a forward in the VFL is his follow up work when the ball hits the ground inside 50. He gets a lot his scoring shots general in play.

I am keen to see how this translates at the AFL level. He does seem bit of a lumbering type and not the most agile - but this is only based on footages and I haven’t seen him play live.

I like the relatively high disposal numbers for a key forward.

Shows an ability to keep himself involved in the game (something Kossy has struggled with).

Judas Priest, given I am nearly twice his age, my metabolism must be on life support. Possibly explains why I start falling asleep on the sofa around 9 o’clock these days.
Go Brandon!
