I feel like there is a lot of revisionist history going on here. Projectdignley was the only person who wanted Watson and every single other person on this board wanted to take Curtin.
Cool alt.

also not true.

To be fair on @excitingnews ... his statement was likely hyperbole
"Likely hyperbole"???

Everyone on a several thousand poster chat site with the exception of his alt?

You are far too generous.

Bridges are easily burned and take a long time to be rebuilt. When the stakes are low, a little generosity goes a long way.
When the stakes are high... that is the time to be more-than-disagreeable.

Not sure who I heard this from... but I like it. And it melds well with my credo seen below.

You hit and you miss.

I was convinced that North made the right decision a few years back when they picked Will Phillips at pick 3, while many thought it was wrong to take him ahead of McDonald (still not convinced Logan will be a star).

Phillips looked as good as Rowell and Anderson at junior level, and was a year younger when they were playing together, so who knows exactly what happened with Will.

When I North were crying for priority picks last year, I wondered if they'd take Watson, and then I found out they were not, I was hugely relieved. Maybe North were spooked by themselves, they didn't want to pick another short player like Phillips.

Don't get me wrong I rated McKercher and Duursma, just not as highly as Walter, Reid and Watson.

As far as I can remember, most on this board wanted McKercher to fall for us, I'm sure some still think he will be the better player but I don't.

What I saw with Wiz at junior level last year was unprecedented. I was not surprised by his year this year. In fact, I thought he might even do better. And I might've been right had he not had the yips from early on.

That said, it was a unique challenge that he had to overcome, that he never really had to face at junior level, and for him to experience that and grow from it, will instill valuable reselience in him. The same I can't say about Will.

I think the league itself has underrated the importance of small forwards for years. That’s definitely changing but I still think they’re underrated. Everyone still so focused on mids, and understandably so, given a lot of the best mids now kick lots of goals but unless you’re the real cream of the crop mid, I’m taking someone like Watson - who looks odds on to be the best small forward in the comp, for a number of years - over a McKercher type any day.

Watson looks like he's going to be a generational player.

We made the right call.
Pretty much up until they were at least 10 years into their careers, people said we made a clear mistake taking Hodge over Judd, who was outstanding from the outset.

By the time they both finished outstanding careers it was a toss up, arguably in favour of Hodge.

You shouldn’t determine whether taking a player from a draft is “the right call” or if they are the steal until well down the track.

As it stands, we have no complaints as Nick has been really good, but no supporter should be complaining about their club drafting a kid who’s only been in the system for one year.

How fun is it going to be to watch The Wizard in 2025?

He's already a drawcard, we all love him and he will drive opposition fans totally bonkers with his antics.

He looks noticeably bigger this off season as well, the guy is just a ball of muscle like a staffy terrier.

I'd love to be in the team meetings when opposition coaches are trying to plan matchups for Watson, Moore, Ginnivan and MacDonald.

All the early mail on him was his ability to hit the scoreboard. Little was said of the defensive side to his game. And he’s pretty much had that covered since his debut for us. THAT was a pleasant surprise. If you’re a defender, he’s not easy to run off.

Additionally, he looks very coachable. He rectified his goal kicking approach to good effect midstream and tempered his antics to a point where he comes across as very no nonsense, business like out on the field. He can turn things around quickly. Always a good sign.
