That's probably Dear.

I don't see how Serong sees gametime unless there are a string of injuries.

TBH I'm amazed a few fringe players like Maginess, Morrison, Serong, Mitchell and maybe even Ward didn't look at moving clubs due to lack of gametime. I suppose that speaks to the great culture we are building.
Maginness, Morrison and Ward all played senior finals and played well in those games.

Who says they’re getting a lack of game time?

Why would they look to move?

Back yourself in to move up the pecking order at your current club.

Battle, Barrass, Day, Mackenzie, Lewis and CJ are coming back into the side that lost to Port. That's six players. Who is going to make way for them?

We can't play 28 players, so fringe players are going to miss out.

We have too much depth.
we need to trade some players out next season.
IMO we should have done it this season for Future picks.
You can never have too much depth and depth players are only worth what clubs are willing to pay. Makes zero chance to trade players just because "draft picks".

"Too much depth"...

I've heard everything now...

I think for the sake of list balance we should have depth options that range from ready to go, to talented but still developing. I think we have too many in the former category.

Isn't most of our depth still relatively young &/or also still developing?

Even Frosty (30?) just had a career season & is getting better (by doing less!)

I get it: depth at the expense of improvement can cause stagnation & have you overtaken by opponents. But we've still got a young list, with designs on going deep into September. The ability to hit September with a fit list will be a massive advantage & having reliable depth (with our demographic) is exactly what we need.

It's clubs like Melbourne & Collingwood that should be shedding 'depth' & regenerating their lists.

It’s a fair statement and the fine balance of list management is when contending how to keep the fringe satisfied as you need that depth. If Josh Ward has another half in half out year clubs will come hard. To a lesser degree Serong and Seamus fall into that category too. That said even if some leave as inevitably they will, doing it this year means 2 years of future picks are available so there’s more flexibility to get decent compensation.
This is especially true for the pies who are desperate for ready made replacements but have been without much draft capital of late.

Thanks for engaging with the point.

It's always difficult talking about players we all wish to succeed with us as being excess to our needs, but it's the reality of list management, and one of the reasons we were able to acquire good players in the past, like Goo, Gilham, D'Ambrosio etc

You've got to turn the list over looking for talent and sometimes they want to leave for more opportunity.
It's sensible to think about how to maximise the benefits of this inevitable outcome.

Yeah we rightly love everyone that pulls on the brown and gold but the reality is not all can succeed in having long careers. The more our leaders are ahead of those outcomes and therefore decisions the better off the club obviously is. Case in point JOS was my boy had high hopes but sometimes bad luck and being at the wrong club from a positional standpoint make the incredible difficult impossible.

If players want to leave its a different story. Same if other clubs come with ridiculous over the top offer, say pick 3 for Finn Maginess, it obviously changes things

But if you want to get rid of players because they're just depth, what are you trading them out for? The low picks you get for wanting to jettison your current depth because...PICKS!...will mostly likely just be your future depth.

We are no longer in the "JUST GET PICKS" stage. We are climbing right through the window.

I’d like us to invest in crypto players. It’s the next big thing

Yeah that too much depth proved problematic when we got injuries during the finals period. Frost goes down before a final this year and we are not nearly as exposed now that Battle and Barrass are on the list. We were winning VFL flags with Box Hill during our three peat and there’s a good reason that happened.

What I love about Bigfooty is how everyone communicates perfectly all the time, so we can all read everything literally which makes life so much easier. And the laser focus we all have on sticking to the topic of the thread.😉

Expecting threads to stay on topic in the summer months is like leaving the porch light on for Harold Holt.

We presently have 7 players who are yet to play a senior game all aged in the 19-21 bracket. That’s 16% of the list in the latter of your categories. Add in the 25 playing on game day and that leaves 12 fringe players. 12 ready to go, 7 developing. To me that is a bloody great balance.

Noah Mraz approves this list assessment message.😂
