Seems to play a lot taller than his height - a bit like Sicily - but still has a fair bit of speed. Will be interested to see how he develops.
You can say that again...

Correct.I'm a little concerned about the thought process on this board.
Just because a player plays a certain position in underage football doesn't mean he will be playing the same position at AFL level.
I don't see this as a replacement for Smith or Stratton... I look at this guy, and think that Hawthorn are thinking Whitfield.
Who for the record is a whopping 81kg.... but also deadly accurate, clean skills on both sides, with vision and attack. I'm liking this pick.
Yeah interesting to pick a general back because we have rights on Connor Downie in next years draft who also plays down back.He needs to be a wingman, a rangy and damaging left footed wingman... Izzy replacement hopefully, we have zero need for HBF’s

xavier Ellis would have won a Norm Smith if he hadnt been injured. Get a grip you child.
That's a nice comparison.
I must admit, I was holding my head in my hands when we passed up Kemp and took Day but I refrained from posting until I had mulled it over for a little longer. After watching those SANFL highlights I am actually quite excited, he has some exceptional traits that could definitely see him progress to be a midfielder/winger. His ability at ground level is elite and his hands are very strong for someone of his size. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up growing to 190cm+. Vision in traffic and foot skills are sublime, he is clean, fast and silky.
The more I watch his highlights, the more I keep comparing him to Scott Pendlebury. It might seem crazy but I just watched their highlights back to back and they have some very similar traits, here's hoping that once he puts on some weight he can turn out half as good.
Really like Day. I think his skinny frame is a little overstated, looking at the footage he looks wiry and strong, not skinny and weak. Love that I couldn't really tell what foot he kicks with, seems calm and composed, intercept marks with ease. Looks hard at it and seems to make good decisions. Just looks like a good player with scope to play HB, wing to my eye. Could release Scrimshaw into the midfield, or end up one himself. Like it.
(His highlights remind me of Burton)
Whist we don't really need another HBF, it's his aerial ability and lovely kicking action that look extremely promising.
I believe we may be looking to develop him into a midfielder in the future.
Yes despite all the Hawthorn don’t leak and smug swipes at the media on this Internet forum, not a single trade or draft move by Hawthorn has gone unreported in advance this year.Cal Twomey was spot on.
I think people online get sucked in by the ‘plays like’ comparisons. Every tall midfielder gets likened to Bont. They don’t get likened to say Ellis Yolman or Daniel Howe, which are far more likely to be accurate. If professional recruiters who watched these kids closely thought Kemp was the next Bont, he’d go pick 1. They clearly don’t.He has been picked as a future running, neat mid. Team, we need another two Will Days. He was just “not a sexy pick”.
My contact says there were another two clubs, Port being one who were “super keen”.

Dont think to much about it, a lot of people were keen on Kemp so naturally will be disappointed we didn’t go down that path.. Everyone will want to see the kid dominate, and it won’t take long for people to jump on board but for the moment some posters need to expect some challenges/questions as to this selection.
On face value in its most simplest terms we’ve selected a player in a position we really don’t need, complicating the motive around the selection is we have Downie as an academy choice next year who is also a top 10 prospect that plays half back. From a personal POV I thought there was a chance to fill a more relevant need, but meh whatever, the choice is made and I’ll support the club.
I’ve got to say I’ll be shattered if Kemp goes on to be a star with the blues.
of course we need Will Day types. We need run and more run. All of our run is “old”, Smith Hendo and getting there.....Scully. It may not be your “instant fix” pick but it is List Management very smart.
Let’s see what else falls from the pack tonight.
We just got Finn cheaper than we thought....going to be interesting.
Agree. Whitfield type.
I think getting to our pick without Finn having been bid on May have allowed us to reach a tad knowing we can get a stronger bodied mid in Finn next.
