They weren’t points though. They were a second round pick tied to our likely low finish. That feels valuable to me. My cynical side says that Weddle (or someone his equal) would have still been there at 27 so effectively we just flushed pick 20 next year in a strong draft down the bog.
Which FS are you referring to btw?
Bird in the hand and what not. We got a player we wanted and rated highly, there isnt much else to it.They weren’t points though. They were a second round pick tied to our likely low finish. The more I read / see, the more I like this kid. Already well built. Could be a monster in time. Loved seeing Mitchell describe him as starting in the midfieldFun fact: Weddle is the heaviest player taken in the first round (tied with Cadman). With his athleticism at that weight, I'm looking forward to seeing him tear apart packs and hopefully master his stoppage bodywork like he has in defence. Really getting Kouta vibes if we see him as a fully fledge midfielder.
I reckon he’s closer to 196/197cm192cm defender. We've got a few of similar size. Unless the club plans on finally running them through the middle, seems like a confusing pick
they are matesTsatas was just interviewed and asked who outside of the top 10 had the most potential to be rated inside the top ten of this draft crop and he said Weddle.
Any number of reasons for a player not to be rated higher. For Weddle I'd say it mainly reflects being somewhat undersized for his specific role, a role which is somewhat un-sexy in terms of high draft picks. If he was played in the midfield and displayed the same qualities at the same height he might have been rated higher.Identifying (10-12) and acquiring talent that everyone else underrated (20+) - isn't that the dream of the armchair critic? Assuming it pays off, of course ...
Given his athletic attributes and prowess, why wasn't he rated higher? Would he have been 10, 20 years ago?
By my last count we had about 30 of those on the listFuture captain

I have no idea what we have here. Can someone post something about his attributes. The bit of Youtube video suggests he reads the flight well and is good overhead as well as being clean by foot. But, it is a very small sample. What are his test stats?
Sam's flattening the leadership curve by having that many.By my last count we had about 30 of those on the list
Pedal to the Weddle has a nice ring for a banner with a hawks car! 🏎I hear he’s not wedded to any of those though.
Going by the photo he is 23 bricks tallI reckon he’s closer to 196/197cm
If he is a ‘Blicavs’ in hawthorn colours you can be sure he will get shit canned by media ‘experts’If he’s blizavs revisited, the may take a while to impact as a match winner
