Buckenara thought we took Sam Mitchell to early in his draft and it worked!
That's why we should take everybody earlier in the draft.

That's where the next competitive advantage is IMHO
If we're going to continue to set the pace (the fastest pace), we have to go against the grain and orthodoxy, otherwise we'll fall back to the pack.
If everybody is doing it, then there's no advantage.
My Karate instructor tells me that I should always do the unexpected.
Catch them off the guards.

Weave already seen the teams go cold on picking of the players who slippe in the draft, which is why we never hear any recruiter say "we didn't expecting him to be around at our pick" this draft. They've already begun to realise you've got to take players before they're expecting it. If they're expecting it, they will take him first; is it making sense to you now?

Shifty Roos is probably thinking this exactly already now - that's why he took Oliver 20 picks earlier than anybody thought and he was the mastermind after Sydney's BLOODS culture success, even though we perfected it.

You don't have to agree with me, but they're the facts and my opinion agrees with the facts.
I forgot to say, this is my first ever post.
There will never be another first post but I like this one.

Yeah... nah....

I don't think you grab players early because that makes you unexpected.

You grab the best players at your pick and hope your judgement and processes are better than others.

Every club has its good and bad picks.

Hopefully our Irish lad proves a steal, we pioneered the NZ thing and I think have been as good as any with mature agers like Pops and Stratts, under agers like Shiels and Savage, and FAs.

It's time to see if Willsmore, Webcam, TOB, JOR, Sicily, Brand, Litherland, etc were the right picks....

Yep. You would never pick the second best player when the best player is available.

Yeah... nah....
Hello Collins and Langford and Ayres.

you say yes, but then you change your mind and you say no.
I don't understand this, why?
You can delete when you type mistake and nobody knows any thing.
I do this.

Did you want me to know (in the secret) that you don't want my idea discussed?
pssst ;) OK

Every master trainer in contact sports will teach - do the unexpected & you unbalance adversary.
Of course, AFL is a contact sport.

You grab the best players at your pick and hope your judgement and processes are better than others.
Listen...
Do you forget already Richmond with the mouse, Tambling?
This idiot team take Tambling (when he was supposed to) and ignored Franklin.
If they took Franklin earlier than expected, they would have him!
Again, my philosophy is elegant.
I have the facts and my opinion.

Every club has its good and bad picks.
Not every club.
Some clubs keep all the bad picks to themselves.
We are lucky in this one because no more Tim Hayzel.

Melbourne - forever
Fremantle - until Ross Lyon -> all bad picks! You have seen the youtube?

You don;t have any facts. We took Luke Hodge at pick 1 because he was the best player in the draft. We took Roughy at pick 2 because he was the best player left in the draft. We took Franklin at 5 because he was the best player left in the draft. We took Ryan Burton at 18 because he was the best player left in the draft. By best player, I mean in the opinions of our recruitment staff they thought he was the best player. We didn't select him (or lovell or anyone else) to upset our opposition by doing something unexpected. We did it because we judged them the best available player. That our opinion of who is best differed from other clubs is not a material consideration in our recruitment decisions. While AFL is a contact sport, drafting players is neither a sport nor does it involve contact.

I'm pretty sure Hawthorn did rate Franklin higher but knew Richmond were well into Roughead and were scared off by Buddy's behavioral issues. We wanted both and so the only way to be a chance of getting both was to take Roughead first and then hope they would jump at Tambling over Buddy. Which they did.

Considering buckenara almost read out another player's id I don't think they expected Franklin to last to 5 and had expected to take tambling.

Nah, Vacant is the best name on that list!

Btw, I just wann say how ludicrous and elitist football has become! Beep tests and shuttle runs!!!! Maybe because of this stupid 'craze' we are missing out on the likes of Jarmans, Dippers or even Sam Mitchell's! It's about knowing where to run with and without the ball, strength in the core, kicking under pressure, composure, decision making, winning hard ball and how to play in a 'team' mentality. Speed, turning, vertical leap etc.. Are all secondary imo.
