The weirdest thing about our midfield as a collective in recent years has been it's lack of versatility. I trust Sam will work very hard on developing these players for use in different roles, and you can clearly see it's been a focus with the draftees.

Lacks that extreme acceleration to play anything like Popeye, IMO.
Am getting increasingly excited by Butler, though. Reckon this pick will pay off for the next 12+ years.
Butler seems closer to puopolo but comparisons not that helpful as different players. All butler, Brockman, Seamus, Moore (and chad) seem a bit better suited to being on hff than deep forward.
I don’t think we’ve found our Breust replacement yet - the elite crumbing forward who plays deep is a specialised role. Wouldn’t mind us having a swing with a rookie pick.

From everything I've read about him there are two things that stand out to me.
1. His athleticism. Fast twitch sprinter who has the leap to be a marking threat and the bolt to breakaway on the outside.
2. His coachability and work ethic. Everything we heard coming into the draft was how he was unselfish, hard tackling and a great player to coach. If he can keep a growth mindset and learns composure under Breusty and SMitch he could become a certified star.
These two combined make for a player with a lot of upside and the scope to build up to it.

I reckon Butler will be in the mix for selection early next year. I think him and Ward are the two that will likely play straight away.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a small/medium forward with genuine speed. Playing on a ground like the MCG with all that space to work with will suit him nicely.

Butler looks slightly shorter than Ward in the photos the club posted today. One, if not both have incorrect heights listed even by our club.
Butler is either shorter than 184 or Ward is taller than 181.

Ward has to have grown, every photo of him he looks ~185. Butler was leaning away from the camera though.

I dont know standard door height is 2040 and he is close to the head rail

You’re dreamin. No way he’s 185.25.
Add marking to that crumbing on Breust's lists of talents too - he's a very strong grab and able to protect space very well when he's under the long ball.
Brockman is the closest thing we have to him right now. He can mark, crumb and has wheels and strength to impact a contest inside or outside if he needs to.
Brockman is a Mark Williams/Bruest hybrid imo, and has the potential to play with more body strength that both of them.

Brockman lists C Cameron as his biggest influence as a player which defo means deep in the forward fifty in terms of his self-identification
