Interesting to hear FPs as this was what I would have assumed (seeing nowhere near the amount of BH games you do) so I was surprised with posts on here about how the club thought he was going to possibly enter the team towards the end of 2020.
He would have to have an amazing pre season. But still he is coming from a long way back. Physically he isnt ready to play a kpd role.

Yeah he may not be a reliable kick but he sure can roost them.

Teams will not want to fall asleep around 50 with Sicily and Frost lurking.
There's a video on the hawks website talking with GW about the Frost trade and a highlight of him absolutely drilling a 55-60m goal on the run. The guy is a thumping kick and will be given licence to run and thump when he gets the opportunity. Is a very good athlete and we will be laughing all the way to the bank when we get him playing the Hawthorn way. The dees are numpties.

No, they're not. They are really good guys.

Welcome Frosty! I’m not totally sold based on his tendency to panic with the ball but with some quality coaching and playing in a side with decent structures that will improve.

Hopefully he can come in and have a positive impact like Impey, Scrimshaw et al have had recently.

Agreed. Has good potential though. So do a few others.

We always find forwards, not necessarily backs, of late. To draft and develop another Kel Moore.....................Yeah i dream.

What I have found amazing on here, having read for quite awhile, is the bashing of Brand, because he falls over sometimes, how dare he, even though it's usually on the u turn and he's done anyway, so does our captain, a bloody lot. Brand does more in the air then given credit for by our supporters, and coaches maybe. He'd now be the perfect incept making backman (flanker), while Frost and Farwely stop the key forwards - yes please, running backs who can kick of Sicily, Scrimshaw, and Impy (yeah I know) plus a lock down small back in Hardwick. Sounds like success to me.

All we need now is a winger/outside mid who can drop the ball in a bucket at FULL pace (unlike Smith and Scully)..............but he's over the Hill, and asking to much cash, even though the aints have stuffed it, so he's ripe for the picking. Nobody at Box Hill capable of this, none, zero, zilch.

Kosi is miles off playing at afl level from what i have seen
The odds of our one sole developing kpd who was a latish pick making it are realistically pretty low. Most clubs have a few developing talls. We are all in on Lewis and kosi (as we don’t have much else). Think we’ve given up on brand and TOB plays a lot better up forward (despite us being convinced he was a defender).

Frost is a very good pickup for our list.

I hear what you're saying, and this maybe not the thread for it, but more key backs have been picked out of the blue then well known early picks. Just look at the spine we had during the 2000s, which went bloody close, if not for injury and 1 D.Goldstink.

People seem to now judge talls on our Roughie/Buddy haul plus Nick and Jack Rienwolk.......Some are just freaks, other are freaks but unknown util they "announce" themselves......Hello our latest best and fairest, even though a different type of player.

Odds boil down to hard work and smarts, and a little athleticism helps. Lake was not athletic, but...................... Kosi can read the play, so can Brand, maybe a bit more muscle or maybe a good forward always out does a good back, but a great back on the otherhand......

Tell me a back that beat Buddy, Ablet Snr, Mark Williams (before his knee) J.Brown, Lynch, Dunstall, HUDSON......................few and far between because the game is still about outscoring the opponent, regardless of the team defense shit we watch.

At worst he's a Stratton replacement can pretend tall (probably not against beasts) can be third man in, can play smalls. Hasn't lost a yard yet. Can't kick apparently see Stratton's kicking not overly good unless down the line sure we can teach that. Don't think we overpaid for him overall. Not captaincy material... might have a debate about that but will wear at this point in their careers that is where Stratts may have it over him as I don't know about his leadership material. Anything else is a bonus.

Pace has become the new talent, lok at for example how much Selwood has faded in two years... and not the one now coaching at Collingwood.

We went from Cogs2Lynch to Frost2Patton.

Could do with some more meme magic more though. Meme bookends in Lewis up forward and Frost down back.
With his pace & his long kick, Frost2Patton could almost be a thing!

Key position back with pace who can defend. Tick.

The archetype Clarkson role player.

This trade on paper is good right now.

IF we can have a good season next year(i.e. make finals, finish top 6) and Frost can contribute well, then this trade will look even better than it already does.

This trade will hopefully go down in the moneyball success storys along with Impey, Scully, Scrimshaw, Titch

-Tall defensive line-up r1 2020
-Hardwick(S) Frawley(T) Stratton (M)
-Sicily(M) Mcevoy(T) Frost(S)

Small defensive line-up r1 2020
-Hardwick(S) Frawley(T) Stratton(S)
-Sicily(M) Frost(T) Scrimshaw(M)
Clarko (to date) has favoured a defensive line-up that works well as a stopping & rebounding unit more so than he's cared particularly for smalls or talls.

In 2010-2012 we disasterfully (should be a word in this context) played Tom Murphy & Schoenmakers in KPD roles & we've played Gibbo, Stratts & Sicily (& even Burton in his 1st & 2nd year) at CHB for skill in favour of size. Frankly, we've been smashed by lesser teams sticking to this model in the past: geelong, norf, GilWS...

I agree that this trade will add to our 'moneyball' success stories, but I don't see us switching out too much between tall/small defensive units, week to week - depending on opponents. McEvoy really isn't playing KPD - it's dumb on multiple levels.

FB: Stratton....Frawley....Hardwick
HB: Sicily.........Frost........Skrillex..................Smith/Impey

That's as good as any Back 6 going around (when Impey is fit), but we'll need Smitty to play deep (as a wingman) so as to give us a running rebounding option to complement the delivery of Skirllex + Hardwick + Sicily. Fortunately, we have Scully + Hendo as other wingmen, to play further up the ground & so it'll work.

In 2919 the Hawks had 3 gaping holes in their structure. FF, CHB, and Tom Mitchell.

Frost at Melbourne in 2019 was an excellent defender but was variable with the ball in hand.

At Hawthorn he will have Hardwick, Scrimshaw, Sisily, and Impey to give the ball to.

This is a moneyball type decision. Great for the player and great for the club.

Frost may make a few bad decisions early on, but given time, he could tighten up his disposal and be the lock down defender that will allow our more creative backs to thrive.

I am very happy with the Hawks getting Frost. Sisily will dominate with Frost at his side.

Frost will frustrate by over-estimating his ability. He has done this for all of his career. On balance... I am OK with that.

What matters is that : The Hawks will be a better team with him in our side.

Welcome Sam Frost
