We gave up nothing to get him.

Yes he's on the purported $500k, its not small fry, but it's not Dusty type money. At least we didn't give him a 4 year deal like Mayne and Collingwood.

Insurance for Roughy and Ceglar. Doesn't need to be a star or work out. Delist next year and thats it.

Great trade.
Was recruited as insurance against Roughy not coming good.
The best insurance policy is the one you dont need to claim on.

Exactly this.

Noone would have preferred 22 games from Vickery and 0 from Rough.

He may well be the highest paid VFL player but its only 1 more year.

The best is reading those that think he will still make it and can't see that his papers are stamped....imagine clarko's reaction today when he heard the news...Vickery is lucky it isn't 10 years ago...clarko would have belted him
"His papers are stamped" Is that a fact or a supposition?

No ... the best insurance policy is the one that delivers results with a minimum of fuss & gives you the cover that was in the original agreement ... even though you hoped you never needed to use it. The best insurance policy is often the best value fir money. We made claims against this insurance policy a few times this year & ended up being the dissatisfied customer. Can't sugar coat it. Ever heard of insurance fraud?????

The few games Vickery played he was no worse than most of our triple premiership players.
The only reason we would have really NEEDED Vickery is if Roughy didn't recover.
He did.

It doesnt matter if you have the best insurance policy in the world its much much better if your house doesn't burn down in the first place.
During the season Poppy, Langford, Breust & Duryea ... yes Duryea against Rance ... played some of our key forward roles. Roughy played up the ground & Ty was in the twos. I reckon we could have made an "insurance" claim or two as our ball use in the F50 was ineffective during those games. Some would say abysmal. Our "insurance" policy just didn't provide the cover we had hoped for. We had the policy, the house caught fire but the cover was terrible. Should have read the fine print!

If Vickery was up to afl standard he would have taken Shoey's spot. I never thought he was insurance but a starter but alas it
didn't work out. Not our first nor our last mistake dealing with new players.

I wasn't overly keen on the trade after watching some of his on field antics at Richmond, such as the Cox incident a few seasons back, so hardly my favourite player. But Vickery is that weird type of player that seems to have the physical attributes to become a decent footballer, and looks like he should be an asset, but game after game seems to have minimal or zero impact.
His pre season games were probably his best efforts for Hawthorn, and I actually thought he was showing a few promising signs early in the season - just before getting dumped to BH. At that point collectively we were rubbish, so it was a pretty tough gig for a big ruck/forward while we were getting smashed around the midfield.
I thought it may have just been a confidence or form slump, but its his inability to show any signs that he is above (or even equal to) VFL level that is most disturbing, if he was a BoxHill player he may have been dropped to the dev league. At the moment, the Vickery experiment looks like a flop ....put him on ebay.

Agreed. He was selected to be a best 22 not insurance.

Some blokes take their chances and others do not.

I'd be amazed if anayone traded for him, so expect he will spend most of the year in 2018 at BH before being delisted.

So realistically which clubs out there would consider him, especially if we were willing to pay half of his salary next year?

Carlton could do with another key forward, Freo definitely could.

Brisbane if Schache ends up departing but then that would go against their rebuild.

Demons desperately need another Key Forward to support Jesse Hogan.

They are the only clubs I see who could even contemplate taking Vickery off our hands at a reduced price. We would be very lucky to strike a deal with any of these clubs though.
