If we're going to use that future first (if our AFL overlords allow it) I expect it will be traded for multiple picks to enable all the trades we're linked to.
Ratugolea, BZT and Sweet aren't worth a first round pick put together.

ER is way overrated,
BZT is just a younger mckenzie (could be ok or could be a spud)
Sweet is most probably the best option out there but could also be a spud and we need someone to replace lycett

im not sure why people think ER is some sort of defending genius when he simply isnt, for starters he can hardly get in the Geelong team which would have alarm bells ringing for me, secondly as a general opinion his actual defending or marking for that matter is pretty bland. I know we need a defender but we dont need stupid defenders which is where i would put ER.

He's most probably an upgrade on Jonas but anyone would be an upgrade on Jonas, ER would be below Dougal Howard in my opinion.
This is where you put yourself with poor development of KPD's. Rucks etc.

3 b-graders are not getting this coach any closer to a flag.

i just dont understand the club, they needed defenders at the start of the year, they went for ER and didnt get him. Once they knew that they should have got at least one of the talls at the club to develop into a defender during the preseason. Either MG, Lord Teakle, or Finlayson should have been chosen for this role as a lock down fullback, but the club did nothing?

Instead they went with Mckenzie who they knew was pretty banged up and undersized
Jonas who was cooked last year and Allir who they dont want to play as a lockdown defender but rather as the spare. Playing fullback isnt that hard a role and any player who considers themselves a decent forward at afl level should be able to do it easily.

Sorry for the intrusion but giving up pick #37 for Esava is madness and there is no reason why your recruiters couldnt find a competent defender last trade period draft . just an example is
Tyler Young for richmond who played 19 games this year his 1st year at AFL
196cm 97kgs as a 24 year old

pick #37 is way too valuable for ER
remembering what Geelong were prepared to pay for Oliver Henry last year who was a 1st round player and clearly worth what he was drafted at initially

Ports 3rd rounder for an uncontracted player that was not selected in their best at the end of the year is his value

Maybe not directly, but it's going to have to be traded to make stuff happen. Last year's mega trade had picks being swapped every which way and that wasn't the end of it - it's amost impossible to keep up with it all.

No it won't. Future 2nd for Esava, #37 for BZT, and #43 or future 3rd for Sweet should be plenty to get each of those trades done.

Rossfc would know more about this than me but I believe Teakle was tried at chb for a couple of Maggie's games mid season, was apparently schizenhauser at his first attempt, looked more comfortable in that role in his 2nd, but then for some reason the plan to develop him as a key defender was shelved and he was put back in the ruck when there were other better options available, eg playing Hayes out of position as a key forward.

Agree

At this stage of his career I see Ratugolea as being worth a 3rd rounder as that big body who could maybe change an oppos form of attack with his presence, as opposed to them streaming towards the fwd 50 knowing their big blokes will almost certainly have a distinct size advantage on their defenders.

Whether he can eventually be better than that is of course unknown, but he does have enough time on his side to hopefully be developed into the role.

Unfortunately though that word `develop' does appear to be a dirty word at Alberton!

Nothing's that straightforward any more.
It will absolutely be that simple, and if it's not we should just force the player to the PSD instead.

If we give up our first rounder in any shape or form and get nothing more than Esava, BZT and Sweet in return for it then we can add our list manager to the list of people at the club who need to be sacked. That would be a disgustingly bad result.

We'll see, eh champ?

Dude we all agree but Geelong are all hepped up on goofballs after being gifted a top 10 pick for free last year and now think this is normal

Seem to be general agreement to keep next years number 1 pick is sensible. Scott talking about esava is adamant he stays or a first round draft pick. It will be v interesting to see how this plays out along with the other 2 targets. Maybe clurey stays as contracted for next year for back up insurance.

Meh pick 37 for a bloke that is expected to be best 22 can never be that big a mistake. Its not like we're talking about a top 20 pick.

Scott's just shitting himself realising how thoroughly devoid of young talent his list is and is desperate for anything to remediate the situation.

Looking at their players under 26:
A-graders: Messi, SDK, Stengle
Solid role players: Parfitt, Guthrie, Close, Henry x2, Bruhn, Holmes
Sub-par: 16 others

Pretty grim outlook. Only 2 KPPs and unless Bruhn takes a massive leap forward, no star mids.

Geelong are staring down an abyss.

Will cheerfully call their bluff and walk Ratugolea to us in the draft. I'm sure Geelong blink before we do.
