P.S. I know you were just having a laugh but Frankston's a beautiful place with million dollar property's and views over the bay, get's a bad wrap. Sorry as a resident it shits me when people rubbish it because of a few bad eggs, which all suburbs have.

Depends which part of Frankston you're in. There's definitely parts that have earned their rep.

This bloke just popped up in my news feed from a friends account, looks pretty happy about getting picked up by you guys.

Says on the afl site he kicked 100 goals one season for deni, hope he works out for you blokes :thumbsu:

Who are the other dudes ?

Yeah definitely, but it's a massive area of 20.8 square km's, I live in frankston south, geographically I'm 500 metres from Mount Eliza, and 15 km's from other parts of Frankston. I just hate lazy generalizations, it's suburbist. No more railroading the thread.

The 1 on the right is Michael Lourey. Was Frankstons leading goal kicker this year

good to see that they're tigers supporters. what about sam who did he barrack for

The bloke to the right is Lourey, also from Mt eliza who played last season at Frankston too. Top VFL goalkicker i believe.

Lloydy is a freak. When he's got the ball inside fifty, he'll look frantic. Almost chaotic. But when you see the needle-threading pearlers off his boot you'll quickly realise there is nothing chaotic about him.
Somebody mentioned he looked fat: might look it, but definitely isn't. Think of the flack Swan copped for looking overweight and still racked up 30+ touches weekly. Lloyd has a similar build.

A considerable amount of the 100 goals he kicked in a season for deniliquin were from the midfield, so don't think he doesn't have a good natural capacity.

Anybody watch the VFL vs WAFL game in full? He kicked 4 goals, with a fifth from way out touched on the line and some great assists. Nothing inaccurate in any case. Also, the bloke has a very good leap and an even better ability of applying it - sits on peoples heads regularly. He's also a charm in the wet, and is happy to give-off to teammates.

While playing at Mt Eliza he was called up to play a few games for the bombers I think, but i don't know what the results were. Not much from Essendon obviously

All this with an AFL level preseason, and its reasonable to expect great things. The frankston VFL highlights reel of Lloyd doesn't do any justice.

I'm sure he's made all those at both Mt Eliza and Deniliquin very proud of both him and their clubs, and its great to see someone with a proven ability at 23 (24?) still crack in.

Very relaxed bloke so expect his likeability, skills and hardwork to see him debut and make an impact. Can't wait!

Something about him I really like.
You don't get many old fashioned really goal hungry or goal "focused" to use the modern wank parlance ,players anymore and mores the shame.
Some players not only know exactly where the goals are so to speak but exactly where they are in relation to the goals and play accordingly by having their next move already pre planned in their head before their initial move which is the absolute worse type for defenders.
Milne had it in spades.
He's one of those I reckon.
Hope so, looking forward to seeing him have a good crack.

Some players need to think about positioning and play, others just know it. Lloydy is the latter, great instincts substantiated with crazy skills

Yeah exactly.
For a while now players of that type have been missed because of the scientific way we look at things and height, shape etc. I love that in the last 5 or so seasons teams are backtracking and finding some real diamonds in the rough and I'm particularly pleased we have gone down this track and nabbed Sam.

One thing about diamonds, they're the hardest known substance! No exception here: moving from one side of Victoria to other and playing a season with Mt Eliza, then playing the following year at Frankston, make the VFL rep squad same year (same goes for two other ex Mt Eliza players), and then get drafted before the year is out!

Good call on scientific interference. I'd like to see them measure reading-of-the-play and longevity at draft camp. A decent amount of the younger crowd will flake out before proving themself at any senior level - here's a bloke still chasing the chance at 23 with a proven track record. Wonder what happened after he kicked the 100 a few years ago? Surely he got looked at?

Some other lads at Frankston are a real testament too, such as Hockey who just improves every year. To people ragging on the culture down there, Goosey hasn't been there that long and this year was their most successful in a while. Looks like a changing place to me.

Others have jumped on a "lacking fitness" bandwagon, which is unjustified. Lloyds results speak for themself, so what are people even basing this on? Just picked-up a line from the media no doubt. His progression speaks volumes of his work ethic and determination. I too find it a shame that proven ability doesn't outweigh age (at least while under 25).

If the AFL could make selecting club players a bigger part of the game, it would serve as a positive notion toward bringing the game back to its roots - where nowadays its just becoming increasingly commercialised and sterile.

Hi guys, sorry to intrude. Have seen Sammy a fair few times in the past two years, both with the Dolphins and his limited games in 2012 with the Bombers.

Is a smart lead up forward who has some serious x - factor about him. Can take a big contested mark, but is nimble enough on the ground to crumb goals.

The Russel Robertson comparison isn't too far off the mark to be honest, think maybe Daniel Giansiracusa in his ability to take a big grab and on the lead or ground. Strong goal kicker as mentioned with his 4 goal haul in the state game this year.

Im not sure you will get a heap of deffensive pressure from him, was always one knock on him, however, should he get fitter and he ups the work rate from that, then this area of his game should improve drastically.

If you would like to know anything else, feel free to ask.

intrusion?
I disagree about the robertson comparison. Different size, different build, different style. Lloydy plays tall for his height and is a weapon in packs. Defensive pressure was always a knock on him - Because he's been on the seen for all that long? You write with peculiar definitiveness which I don't understand.
Personally, i'd like to know about the meaning of life, Yoda

Thanks for that.
His highlights indicate a lovely kick. Most highlights would, but is that also your recollection?
Is he quick?

NEW Richmond livewire forward Sam Lloyd has played at more clubs in four years than many players grace in a lifetime.

His amazing journey to the AFL culminated in the Tigers taking him at pick 66 on Thursday, a decision which saw his living room erupt with joy.

the more I review the clips, the more I wonder why we didn't take him before gordo, has a trick or two, moves really well and unbelievably good hands ...look forward to seeing him in action

I think Gordon would of been on more clubs radars . They didn't flinch when they called out both picks. The Tiges recruiting team had the gun already loaded and just went bang both times , no discussion no extra time needed . They had their men picked out and they were there no mucking around. It was beautiful to watch.
