Still only 20 years old. Showed enough at senior level last year for me that we should keep him another year or two while his body matures.
He is still contracted for another year. Personally I want to see him have a belonged run at half back in hopes of replacing JJ. I think that'd be his best chance at making it at AFL level. Give him a full pre season to learn the new position and then see how he goes, no harm in trying when he is already contracted.

Personally I’d keep him forward, bearing in mind that other small forwards with similar builds/traits haven’t hit their stride until the 21-22 age range. I think he’s averaging a goal a game at VFL level this year which is fine, but the low disposal numbers remain the worry.

Low disposal numbers are typical for a small forward. Even players like K Pickett and C Cameron only average about 11.5 disposals and they would be regarded as close to the best in the business. Weightman who is up there with them only averages about 9.5 disposals. (We should probably talk about tackles, GAs and pressure acts too but I haven't the time right now.)

I'm not saying Arty is doing enough. He's not, and his future is still very much in the balance. But in his first season he averaged 7.6 disposals including that zero disposals game. Not terrible for a small forward.

I agree we can afford to give him until the end of next year to see if he can put it together. That's when his current contract ends. He has quite a bit of improving to do but he could still make it.
