The kids going to be a player. He is a natural footballer. Some of his quick handballs are off the charts and will be hugely important in our new attacking style. A good quick handball can really help break the lines.

He was OK on Saturday, certainly showed glimpses but his disposal efficiency was down, maybe nerves, speed of the game, etc. What I do love is the intent and the fact that he did not seem overawed one bit, took the game on which I love.

Have noticed a few times now in intra-clubs the NAB, that he is more of an outside mid, he does hang back a little bit from going in for the contested clearance. This is alright, and you certainly need outside runners who can use the footy well. We also have the best bottom of the pack player in the league sitting with a prolonged injury, but I think if the little fella is really going to make his mark on the game it really needs to be the in and under ferocious attack style, with contested footy and tackling.

Not having a go at the kid, I love him, just an observation.

I disagree.

His best quality appears to be his hands in traffic. Not an extractor type like Libba or Wallis but as a link man. Ideally a guy like Wallis would shovel it out to him and he'd set up a running Macrae or Bontempelli.

Back his kicking too - he's an 18 year old who hasn't played apart from two NAB challenge games. It'll get up to speed.

Love his fearlessness!

He was a class above at every level (even if head and shoulders below).

I think his game will translate to AFL. Its better to be good than big, and the kid can seriously play and he seems the type to work hard. He's gonna make it, guys.

Thanks for everything Caleb. Always a great clubman, right to the end.

Well, there you have it. The two players my sons were named after ended their careers at opposition teams.

My eldest son is named Hunter (Born in 2014). His younger brother born almost three months after our premiership is named Caleb.

A couple of nights before this year's Grand Final, Caleb was presented with his Team NAB AFL Auskick uniform in front of Joel Selwood, Hamish McLachlan, Nick Daicos, Katie Brennan and several other high-profile AFL & AFLW players. Hamish and Joel shared the honours in interviewing each Team NAB member as they were called up to collect their uniform. When Caleb answered, "Dogs" after Joel asked him what team he followed, Hamish asked, "Are Caleb's parents here?" I raised my hand and then Hamish asked me if Caleb was named after Caleb Daniel. I answered, "Yep, and two year's older, his brother Hunter is named after Lachie." Hamish then asked my wife and I, "Is there a third? Is there a Bont?" I responded to that by nudging my wife and asking her if she wants to try for a third. Embarrassed, she couldn't answer "No" quick enough. Her response was received by several laughs.

I'm still convinced that Footscray wins the VFL premiership every year my wife gives birth. She ain't buying it.

Good list. Easton Wood should be in there too.

This was a magic moment after the siren in the final v Hawks in 2016 when Caleb got a free then a 50 to bring him up to the goal square to kick the goal and all the players came in behind him to celebrate :rainbow:

In the age of the enormous “grown in a lab” midfielder/AFL player (like Bont and Cripps), that someone of Caleb’s stature could carve out the career he’s had so far - and it’s not done - is laudable.

I got frustrated towards the end, and I don’t think the coaches set him up to succeed much in the last few years - but some of his disposals in that golden period around the flag were incredible.

Best of luck, wee man. Thanks for everything. 👏
