Toast Welcome to the Saints - JACK HIGGINS!

I was having a bit of a peruse of the stats on the AFL website last night, as one does. I was checking out James Frawley's 2020 stats, they didn't make for great viewing to be honest.

Anyway I thought I'd check out some of our other new players, and Jack Higgins' 2020 stats were quite a surprise! He was ranked as elite in many areas including effective disposals, intercept possessions, kicks and frees for.

Worth checking out, here is the link:

Based on those stats, in a year he was coming off major surgery, he could be a very shrewd acquisition.
Don’t think you can compare stats of those 2, they work through differing lenses.
Both will give the club and their team mates something next year. Just in different ways.

Honestly not concerned in the slightest about Frawley, he's a back up role player in an area we really needed. Could be more than that if he can rediscover previous form.

But I'm very excited about Higgins now. He was probably fairly unlucky not to be in that Richmond side, I think we may have just gotten ourselves a steal, and perhaps the idea that he hadn't been able to rediscover previous form, based on stats, is actually a myth. Because stats wise this was his best year. And he was a first round draft pick tracking very nicely.

You have to think that between butler /Lonie /Gresham/billings and Higgins they will all take pressure off each other. Also their ability to run on the ball will add some speed and creativity that we sometimes lack.

Only a week ago I was pulling my hair out at Jacks inability to kick a drop punt 10 metres out but have to give him some credit when it’s due.

27 in 13 games this year. Weightman is the only non-KPF with a better goal average.

Easily our best small forward since the Tip Rat and if he didn’t miss all those games he’d be right in the All Australian discussion.

That was a trade that worked. He does have a few brain fades, but also does things that are above and beyond the average player. His work as a defensive forward has improved out of sight. You see him racing around manically putting pressure on. And tackling hard. Great free kick he won yesterday. He should never have got that 3 week suspension. Really hurt us.

i actually think he might be the comps best small fwd. severely under-rated.
Who needs Stengle?

Higgins will easily be our leading goalkicker again this year, and should win goal of the year too. Probably our only forward who has improved from last year.
He was a bit quieter in the second half of last year compared to the first, but we need him to finish this year strong as our only reliable goalkicker, if we are going to be somewhat competitive for the rest of our matches.

One of most important players. Absolutely love the bloke.

One of the few characters in the place too. The rest makes a nun's convention look fast paced.

Also I think in the past he was viewed as a chubby little fella who didn’t really chase or tackle much. Butler was the dangerous tackler and Higgins was the bloke hanging out the back looking for opportunist goals.

Now he still gives off dad bod vibes, however if you watch him closely he’s covering good metres and running down opposition players and tackling strongly (hello Aliir Aliir 😃)

And of course he’s always been a great mark for his size.

He is indeed a player I’m very happy to have in our forward line.

He uses the ball well too. That handball he gave to a running Henry to set up Sharman (I think) was a thing of beauty. Perfectly to Henry's advantage. He's a smarter player than people give him credit for.

Higgo is having a really great year.

His "around the corner shots" at times does my head in.

The one thing that absolutely impresses me is his very strong contested making.

For a guy his size,it's pretty damn impressive.

If BT is on the judging panel.....you can forget Higgo winning goal of the year.

"I think that's out"...."I think that's out"

LOL.
