How will the Eagles go?

Clearly ran out of legs.

Shocking skills.

High draft picks who butcher the ball time after time.

Handful of class players do some good things.

Cant see us winning more than 2009 to be honest.

Maybe says more of Brisbane but thought we were pretty poor the whole night tonight.

Prediction: 11th (7-15)

I don't think running out of legs should be a huge black mark against them, unless it persists further into the season. So far there have been a lot of teams absolutely buggered by the final quarter, including Hawthorn (who only got away with it because they were so far in front it didn't matter if Melbourne took advantage of them being out on their feet).

You will be much better at home this year I wouldn't go too hard on them as yet first game. Still reckon your team lacks pace and a small speedy forward.

Was SOOOO annoying!!

Cant remember how many times we kicked the ball long to a contest and the balled spiilled to 1 or 2 Lions players.

I really hope we win next week because I still dont think our away record will improve dramatically.

Outcome exactly the same as last year, West Coast getting a lead and unable to hold on, result was expected

True.

If you look at the final margin you would expect that.

But the way the game panned out wasnt that way.

Like 2009 we should of won (or at least got within 1-2 goals) we shut up shop :(

Eagles like Port, North and several others are well in the process of rebuilding, a lot of the cattle is there but they have no experience and at times under a lot of pressure they will crumble.

There will be good and bad weeks, it will be a rollercoaster. Get on the prozac if you had expectation of winning tons of games before the start of the season, if it happens then sweet but you have to expect a fair bit of heartbreak in development years.

Perhaps you need to temper your expectations, I wouldnt be too disappointed losing away to a top 6 quality side in round 1. your not that good.

Still don't understand all the 'hype' about them this year and many predicted them, especially in Melbourne, to make the lower half of the top 8... really don't understand how this is justified and who they are going to overtake to do it...

They've won something like 1 of their last 19 games away from home and while they are significantly better at home, they certainly aren't 'unbeatable' there like a few years ago.

Will have an up and down year and finish 10th.

How will the Eagles go?

I'm more worried about how you'll go to be honest.

Another couple of last-quarter fadeouts and you might become an hero.

Seriously, chill the **** out. It's a round 1 loss on the other side of the country against a team that is gearing up for a flag tilt.

There were some good signs, and some bad signs. There's 21 more games to get rid of the bad signs.

The trip to Brisbane from Perth is the hardest road trip in the afl. You have got it out the way early so that is good.

West Coast will do well i think somewhere between 7-11.

I agree to an extent but a trip to Brisbane at the beginning of the season isnt so bad cos you dont have a recovery to get over from the week before. With the team they had in (nearly full strength), the position they were in just prior to 3 quarter time with the Lions on the rope and the position Brisbane were in with regards to injuries, that was a piss poor effort really.

I think the interpretation comes from the fact that, as you said, we should win more often than lose at home, but also we will have a few weeks away where the youngsters all just 'turn it on' exactly due to the rollercoaster type effect.

I did think we were overrated for this year no doubt, quality veterans are underrated by the shiny new toy lovers.

You must be joking? To see Natanui and Kennedy do what they did should be cause for celebration. You guys are on the way up. Probably no finals this year but chill out you are going in the right direction.

Definitely need more depth through your midfield as that is where Brisbane overran you in the end but Brisbane are a very good side and once the Lions midfield took over it was no surprise to see Fev and Brown dominate given they are 2 of the best 5 big forwards in the game.

I thought Kerr was good tonight as well until he ran out of gas and that was the key. He won clearances at will for most of the first 3 quarters but in the last quarter the Lions did as they pleased in the centre square.

Some perspective please...

We came up against one of the most experienced and fancied teams this year and not only matched them for 3 quarters at THEIR home ground, but beat them.

Unfortunately we ran out of legs and couldn't sustain it in the last. We're a developing side, that happens. Brisbane are having a premiership tilt, so they should be able to beat WC in this manner.

How you can be negative over the performance in this game is mind boggling.

Oh seriously what the **** are you doing?

Just one game and we've proven we can match it for three quarters at least. People are touting Brisbane as top 4 contenders, we're being touted as possible finals contenders.

I hold great confidence for the future of our club and the high draft picks you accuse of butchering the ball are still quite young. The pressure from Brisbane tonight was fantastic.

Don't be so goddamn pessimistic and don't expect the world in 2010.
