A Bangaldeshi quick terrorising the Windies on their home deck isn't something we've prob seen before. Ordinarily this game would be far from over as West Indies can easily chase down 250 to 300 to win, though Nahid Rana might make this tough

He bowled beautifully but Taijul is the one I’m probably more concerned about. He was bowling grenades at times and probably bowled a lot better than his figures showed. Turned it a long way. We stuffed up not playing Sinclair or Motie I think (not even sure Motie is in our squad atm for some reason).

Keep them to a 250 lead and we can win but f**k Brathwaite has to take a stand. Hes batting for his career at the moment so I get that he’s fallen back to what he knows which is dour crease occupation but he has to set the tone and just at least TRY and be positive. He doesn’t have to go out and thrash it he just has to be proactive

bigget issue is you have a raw opener who made a ripping 97 but is finding his way 13 first games? looks really suss outside off so it working on that but the captain is slow as heck so doubles the pressure, add to that how raw middle order who had what 2 100's between them before last test shakey as.

Who remembers the old Bangladesh team when they first got test staues that would try and smash every ball for 4, felt like that a bit this morning watching

Louis’ has a good defence he just goes searching for it a bit too much, doesn’t leave enough balls that he’s not attacking.

I could genuinely understand the go slow on day two to some degree. They’d done a good job rolling Bangladesh for 160, went out to bat in fading light, lost Louis fairly early, not a whole lot to gain and 1-0 up in the series. And look they did actually start the day a little bit more positive, they took 14 or something in the first 5.3 overs before Brathwaite got out but it’s hardly putting the bowlers on the back foot. Make a statement.

It was actually the sort of situation where Holder was badly missed because he’s a player who can up the tempo without losing his shit

Hopefully they have a part timer who can chip in with a few like an AB or Michael Clarke.

As for Brathwaite he batted superbly through that final session Day 2 so hoping he can dig in deep. But of course it's one Mr Kayle Mayers who they really need against Bangladesh! Won't even ask what happened to him, but guess the same thing that happened to all the other great hopes and chosen ones

Nah not really. Mayers had plenty of chances. He made one more test hundred and even won us a test with the ball against England and bowled beautifully and you got the sense they tried to use that as a reason to keep him in the team in the hope that at some stage his undoubted batting talent would come good again but it hasn’t. He’s still floating around the mix in the white ball teams but hasn’t made the cut in recent squads since his last t20 in August.

He played the home one day season for Barbados before going off for that stupid T10 debacle.

He’s still - and there’s a good chance he always will be - the owner of the ‘Greatest Shot I’ve Ever Seen’ title courtesy of that back foot cover drive for six into the second tier of the Suns home ground a few years ago in a t20 match.

owner of the greatest 4th innings performance too! Bring him back i say. Bonner as well. Can't remember that shot but can picture it and sounds like a thing of beauty

yeah a far cry from when the aussies toured there in '91 and '95.

i think the aussies are the next team to tour the west indies, so it'll be interesting to see the crowds then.

to be fair, from memory, the west indies don't really play home tests in december, its normally april-july.
Good to know. Have been deliberating on doing a trip to see the Aussies (done India and the Ashes in the past) but Windies is def a bucketlist tour. But without a crowd it wouldn't be as fun. Certainly would not want to be sitting with the Aussie contingent (no offence, guys...), i'd be wanting to be drinking rum and red stripe with the locals.

This has been my dream since I was about 15: Kensington Oval ideally.

Here’s that shot I was mentioning before.

Another 6. Shot before was bizarre. A sliced shot with an angled bat that was straight out of 70s computer game Pong

CHRIST we cannot f**king buy a DRS decision in our favour.

This is not a moan about the system by the way, I have no problem with it and I don’t subscribe to any theory of corruption or some teams getting looked after etc etc.

But we seems to get absolutely destroyed on the umpires call both in the field and with the bat

Tremendous that in between the occasional wake up to see us take or lose a wicket, I woke up to watch us go from an outside chance at 4-140 to lose 5-38.

Just really, really satisfying 😂

Well done Bangladesh. Might not be up there with the NZ win but still another tick in the box to show where they are headed especially with ball in hand. Another step backward for us as a batting group.

Probably time for JDS to have a spell I think…. Might be a door ajar for Shai Hope as a keeper

I may recall Tevin Imlach having a good domestic season with the bat...is he worth a call up?

Likewise and very frustrating! Even at 5 or 6 down they could've built on something. Batting is a big worry, but that's largely been the case for 25 years. First thing one thinks of the great Windies sides is the fast bowling, but, of course, in reality the batting has always been equally formidable – if not even better. For every Michael Holding you have a Viv Richards, is what they say (not really, i just made it up)

But you're right, absolutely well done to Bangladesh. A famous win. A lot to like about this side and I will be keeping a close eye on their new generation of quicks. You were also correct about being worried about Taijul. 220 wickets in 52 tests is damn impressive and proved to be the difference.

The thing with the quicks against the Windies is that while we have long had some issues with looseness outside off stump and some technical deficiencies, basically every member of that top 7 if they get in can to a greater or lesser extent play good shots against it, keep the ball out when the bowler gets too straight, and get on a bit of a roll if they get set.

Against spin Brathwaite is the only one - odd as his technique is - that can be trusted to actually survive if an opposing spinner settles onto a good spot. Spin has been our major weakness for a long, long time and it is highlighted by how many mediocre spinners have exceptional records domestically

also pretty sure its now been upgraded from a 2 test series to 3.
